Review Summary

Le Pain dans les Voiles comes across as a popular neighborhood bakery known for high quality pastries and bread, with many customers praising the range from croissants to fougasse and brioche, and a generally pleasant coffee and atmosphere. Yet some reviewers report inconsistent items such as dry croissants, pastry freshness issues later in the day, and service that can feel indifferent or rushed, despite otherwise friendly staff. The place is often busy with lines moving quickly, and some praise the ambiance for working or socializing, while others note premium prices and occasional shortages of popular items by afternoon. There are varied notes about pet policy and family accommodations, and overall the sentiment leans positive with strong recommendations for certain items like the jambon beurre and almond croissant, while acknowledging room for improvement in consistency and service.

Their bread is good but their machines FORCE you to tip. There's no option to not tip, is that not illegal? Why am I tipping to just buy a single baguette

Don't know how this place has such a high rating. The croissant looked like a piece of bread inside, it was incredibly dry & tasted like they bought it at a grocery store. Latte was truly bad. The only decent thing I've gotten from here is the loaf of bread.

One of the best bakeries of Montreal. The bread is very tasty. I particularly enjoy the fougasse

Our go-to when we visit. Always fresh, tasty, fair price, & busy! Lovely selection of fresh pastries, muffins & bread products.

There are more than a handful of coffee shops in this neighbourhood all with their own unique flare & vibe. But when it comes to fresh bread, consistently delicious coffee, extremely kind staff, & spacious inside to read or write, there is no comparison to Le Pain dans Les Voiles. Some of my favourites: Chia Matcha Pudding Chouquettes Fromage Scones Cappuccino & their filter coffee is still always crisp. They take all forms of payment here as well, as some others in the neighbourhood are cash/debit only.

Some of the pastries are quite good: chocolatine, croissant, abricotine. Go for these classics or the breads & you won't be disappointed. Many of the pastries are deceptively bad: almost all the muffins, randomly some scones. The prepared food has been mostly bad. They try different things which is good of them, often cycling out the bad food they have invented. Notable terrible things I have eaten here: breakfast croissant with egg inside (had to throw out, something I never do); grilled cheese (surprisingly had raw red onion, raw green pepper & a sweet jam inside, none of the 6 people we came with would take a second bite; a yogurt bowl with mint & granola & dried fruit & jam that just didn't work at all.

The bread & food are decent but this is my second & last time ordering drinks from here. My first experience was a latte that was supposed to be iced that I got hot & then tasted watery in the end anyway. Today I ordered matcha latte that took 10 mins to prepare & received a slightly green tinted cup of milk. No flavour at all, just felt like I was drinking a cup of milk. For 7$ drink I find this very poor quality. Breads are fine but save your drink purchases for elsewhere.

Update: 2024. I tried this place again & enjoyed some other bread selections which were very good. The service was very pleasant as well. Here's my past review from 2 years ago: I really wanted to give top ratings to this popular bakery, however, I found what I bought a little disappointing. The vienoisseries had very little of the croissant-like texture that I look for. The raisin bread, although well baked, tasted bland. Unfortunately, I will be moving on to other bakeries. It's really too bad, because, the employees were absolutely welcoming & pleasant.

Had a coffee here mid afternoon. Come early to get your assortment of pastries & bread. Cafe opens later with high tables & electrical socket which allows you to do some work. It had a relaxed atmosphere. Front of the store had various dry goods & seasonal items to purchase. Staff was nice. Quick & efficient service.

They have chocolate & framboise bread. You certainly know the combo from chocolate & raspberry right? It's yummy !! They have a terrasse in front of the shop. The hot chocolate is also good & sweet. The staff is friendly.
A bit expensive compared to our expectations but it was worth it.
