Review Summary

Le Colonel Moutarde is described as a lively bar with a large selection of board and card games, a cozy atmosphere, and cocktails that many reviewers praise for quality. The appeal often lies in the game library and the presence of a game master who can help pick and teach games, and staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive. A standard note across reviews is a per person game fee that may be included in the bill, with some diners also reporting pressure to order food or tip and a policy not clearly stated online. Food and drink quality receives mixed signals: cocktails are frequently praised, pizzas and other dishes are seen as decent to good, but some items are described as disappointing or overpriced, and a few complaints mention cold food or salads not meeting expectations. The beer selection is noted as good, though prices can be high, which some feel is justified by the ambiance and experience. There are also concerns about consistency and service, with at least one account of missing game pieces and another of unfriendly replies after a food safety incident, including a request for an inspection. Overall, Le Colonel Moutarde is regarded as an entertaining destination for game lovers with a welcoming social scene, but experiences vary regarding value, service style, and food safety.

We came here expecting to play games for a couple of hours, & potentially order a little something to snack on.

We had been to Randolph many times in the past, & normally just paid the entrance fee, played a couple of games, then left. We were never pressured to order drinks, food, or tip the employees.

The vibe was entirely different here. We were seated & the menu was explained to us. We said we would start with water. Waiter came back & asked if we were ready to order. We said that we wanted to play a game or two first. He told us to PROMISE HIM that we would order something later, as apparently it's policy for us to purchase something ? Nowhere was this listed on their website. He told us his colleague would come see us for a game. We waited 5 minutes, no one showed up. We had to get the game ourselves & figure out the rules. 45 minutes later, the game guy finally came to our table. Please note that at this point, we had ordered something. The game guy only came to our table once we ordered food, & took his time getting there (although the place was far from being full).

Also, the games were falling apart & missing pieces.

Finally, we got up to leave & paid the bill. The waiter from the beginning showed us a tip jar for his colleague who explained the games & told us that tips are encouraged. My boyfriend & I felt pressured to leave a tip. I paid the entrance fees & didn't tip, & my boyfriend tipped 15% on the food.

Please don't come here if you want to play games & chill. Come here & expect to be basically forced to buy their overpriced food & be pressured by waiters to tip them.

I can't say the food was great; it was acceptable enough that the rest of the experience could still be rated five stars. The service was gracious & thoughtful. The cocktails were a delight. & the games...the games are why you're here, right? A wide selection of board & card games, & for a minimal fee you can play whichever ones you like. There's even a Game Master to help you find a game you want or to help you learn a new one.

What a blast!

Let me tell you. The cocktails here are delicious. I got a'Le Foulard' cocktail & I would come here again just to drink this, it was so good.
I also got Butter Chicken as a meal. The sauce was delicious but the chicken was very chewy.

The service here was exceptional. The servers were attentive & the game masters were very helpful in choosing & teaching us how to play every game. There was a game fee but that's totally logical.

I was here with coworkers for about 4 hours & we had a lot of fun.

They include tax on the menu which I think is cool. The only thing I didn't like about the atmosphere was that it was cold & the music was very loud.

Board game cafe. It is such a great vibe. I passed by this place several times & always wondered what it was. The ambiance is really nice. Sorry of like a upscale lounge/ speakeasy vibe. You pay CAD$8.50 & play games. Beers & food here are a bit pricey. I posted the Feneral Tso's Tofu Balls & a bone beer which cost me over CAD$20. They have a large selection of games, but you must wait for the server to bring the game to you. They also explain the rules so you can try new games. Also, it can get quite loud on a popular night.

Best place to play with a group. The game sommeliers are ultra cool, the spicy cocktails keep me coming back for more, & the brussels sprouts caesar salad is very original & filling.

Spent a few hours there & took the végé burger & 2 sour beers which were excellent . You can play social games there for a minimal fee .
