Review Summary

Le Colonel Moutarde is widely praised as a welcoming spot for friends and groups to enjoy board games, craft cocktails, and casual comfort food. Visitors frequently highlight the helpful staff who guide guests through game selections and create a lively, cinematic atmosphere enhanced by the venue's unique urban decor. While many guests appreciate the cozy environment and the extensive variety of games available for a modest fee, some find the pricing of drinks and food to be on the higher side. Feedback regarding service is generally positive, though experiences regarding expectations for food purchases and tipping can vary, occasionally leading to mixed impressions of the establishment's policies.

Created for Le Colonel Moutarde bar in 2019, this mural by Dodo Ose & the A'Shop collective blends surreal humor with Montreal's urban charm. The oversized gentleman overlooking the terrace gives the street corner a playful yet cinematic atmosphere that feels uniquely Montreal. #LeColonelMoutarde #Montreal

We came here expecting to play games for a couple of hours, & potentially order a little something to snack on.

We had been to Randolph many times in the past, & normally just paid the entrance fee, played a couple of games, then left. We were never pressured to order drinks, food, or tip the employees.

The vibe was entirely different here. We were seated & the menu was explained to us. We said we would start with water. Waiter came back & asked if we were ready to order. We said that we wanted to play a game or two first. He told us to PROMISE HIM that we would order something later, as apparently it's policy for us to purchase something ? Nowhere was this listed on their website. He told us his colleague would come see us for a game. We waited 5 minutes, no one showed up. We had to get the game ourselves & figure out the rules. 45 minutes later, the game guy finally came to our table. Please note that at this point, we had ordered something. The game guy only came to our table once we ordered food, & took his time getting there (although the place was far from being full).

Also, the games were falling apart & missing pieces.

Finally, we got up to leave & paid the bill. The waiter from the beginning showed us a tip jar for his colleague who explained the games & told us that tips are encouraged. My boyfriend & I felt pressured to leave a tip. I paid the entrance fees & didn't tip, & my boyfriend tipped 15% on the food.

Please don't come here if you want to play games & chill. Come here & expect to be basically forced to buy their overpriced food & be pressured by waiters to tip them.

I can't say the food was great; it was acceptable enough that the rest of the experience could still be rated five stars. The service was gracious & thoughtful. The cocktails were a delight. & the games...the games are why you're here, right? A wide selection of board & card games, & for a minimal fee you can play whichever ones you like. There's even a Game Master to help you find a game you want or to help you learn a new one.

What a blast!

Let me tell you. The cocktails here are delicious. I got a'Le Foulard' cocktail & I would come here again just to drink this, it was so good.
I also got Butter Chicken as a meal. The sauce was delicious but the chicken was very chewy.

The service here was exceptional. The servers were attentive & the game masters were very helpful in choosing & teaching us how to play every game. There was a game fee but that's totally logical.

I was here with coworkers for about 4 hours & we had a lot of fun.

They include tax on the menu which I think is cool. The only thing I didn't like about the atmosphere was that it was cold & the music was very loud.

Spent a few hours there & took the végé burger & 2 sour beers which were excellent . You can play social games there for a minimal fee .

With a down to earth elegance that fits the area, Colonel Moutarde reflects the passion & care of its employees. From an amazing menu you wouldn't realize is mostly vegetarian, to the classy & cosy decor, there's already a lot to love, but the addition of board games that are expertly chosen for you is the cherry on top. It really feels like a British pub, with some good games.

I despise QR code menus. As does most people. Service good, a little ott. Good selection & drinks expensive & you feel a little pressured to buy more by the talk you receive at the beginning of sitting down. Great service on games, the guys are knowledgeable. Anglo Friend'y!!
