Magnifique bijou de restaurant, chaleureux, agréable & sans prétention. De la fine cuisine où chaque play est une expérience qui laisse le plalet en fête. Le service est excellent & chaleureux. & les plats arrivent très rapidement ce qui témoigned'une belle organisation. Une belle fierté Montréalaise.
Nous avons essayé le menu dégustation, précisant que nous n'étions pas fan de sortir du restaurant bourrés à en détacher son bouton de pantalons, nous nous sommes fait servir 4 plats miniatures à partager dont l'agencement ses saveurs était plutôt brouillon. Le tout avec deux verres de vins entrée de gamme corrects sans plus & un dessert partagé à 2. On nous revient avec une addition de 251$+ pourboire par personne, ce qui n'aurait pas été particulièrement horrifiant si ce n'avait été des plats quelconques dont cetains se mangeaient en une seule bouchée. Je vous suggère un autre restaurant si vous voulez passer une belle soirée & avoir pour votre argent.

The food was good, but shouldn't have chosen the chef creation, with a budget of $250 for 2 people ! They ask you what is your budget. I chosen Chef creation, but they were defined. Was disappointed, as reviews suggested differently. Were we supposed to pay even more ? Overpriced versus other great restaurants. Even though we gave our tastes & things we didn't like, we got small portions & thought we would have had at least another dish with some Angus beef as part of the multiple servings. We should have picked defined food in the menu. Wine list is definitely overpriced. Super loud, because it's a small place. Parking, there is no valet. They said to park in a dead end part up the street. It's the Plateau. Total bill with food, 1 bottle of wine, 1 dessert, taxes, tips 18%, $640 ! Would like to try again, but too pricey.
I understand that some things are out of your control, but this response feels like an attempt to deflect the blame. We only responded positively when asked if everything was okay because we weren't told about the reservation time constraints until it was already too late to fix the pacing. Expecting a $400 tasting menu to be rushed like that, without any communication, is a major issue.
?Also, it feels like my feedback at the end of the meal was completely ignored. When we explicitly told the server we were disappointed with the service & the situation, their only reply was,'Are you still hungry?' If all we wanted was to be full, a bowl of pasta would have done the job. It's frustrating that this part of the conversation wasn't taken into consideration...
INITIAL REVIEW
This was my third time dining at Le Chien Fumant, & unfortunately, it was a major disappointment. My first two visits were amazing, which is why I was so excited to bring my partner this time. We decided to go all out & order the $200 per person tasting menu, but the experience just didn't live up to the price tag.
The issues started right after the amuse-bouche. The restaurant was trying to accommodate a large group of 12 that was running late for another event, & it felt like the staff completely shifted their focus to them. Because of that, we were left sitting there waiting 35+ minutes just for our first official course to arrive.
The pacing picked up a bit after that, but toward the end of the meal, I asked our server how many courses were left. They explicitly told us we had'at least two courses left.' However, when that exact same server brought out the very next dish, they completely changed their story, telling us our 2-hour reservation window was actually up, there were no more courses, & they had made a mistake earlier. It really felt like the 35-minute delay caused by the other group messed up our timeline & they just cut our experience short to get the table back.
Frankly, we left feeling like we didn't get what we paid for. We even looked at the à la carte menu afterward to see if the value added up, & even if we were generous with the portion sizes, our rough calculations still fell short by about $80.
I get that handling large groups is tough, but customers paying $200 a head shouldn't be the ones paying the price for it. We would have had a much better, more relaxed experience just ordering smaller dishes for a fraction of the cost.

Beautiful, clean, charming, & intimate restaurant. Every dish was absolutely delicious, 10/10, & some of the dishes were incredibly unique. Our server & busboy were just as good if not better! Thank you Danny & Le Chien Fumant for a one of a kind, wonderful experience.
