Response to cafe: I ate everything within 5 minutes of leaving. Nothing was cold.. as I mentioned, the food was undercooked, & the piece of bread was dry.. I thought that would be enough context, & I doubt that dining in would have made the bread less dry or properly cook the food.. 🤷 I'm actually surprised the way you responded, mentioning that take out was the problem & that you need more context, rather than apologize for serving that food to me & offering a redo. Looking at other reviews, I see I'm not the only one who mentioned the undercooked Sunny side eggs.. if you can't cook your eggs properly & you leave the white part running, you shouldn't be in the kitchen.
Original: Overrated in my opinion. I got some breakfast. They were some undercooked Sunny side eggs & undercooked bacon with a few slices of what feels like dry sourdough bread & a cookie for not worth it. They have high ratings it must be for something else not their breakfast
This was my first time trying Bloom. I'm often in the area & always enjoy supporting local businesses, but unfortunately, I had a very bad experience.
I ordered two breakfast sandwiches. No one asked for my name when I placed the order. While I was sitting down, an employee walked over & handed me two sandwiches, so I assumed they were mine & left.
When I realized the kimchi I had paid an extra $3.50 for was missing, I returned to the café. Another customer then accused me of taking her order & insisted that I had responded to a different name. I never heard a name being called, & since we had both ordered two sandwiches, it seemed like a simple misunderstanding.
Instead of calmly sorting it out, the employee at the cash immediately accused me of stealing someone else's order. When I tried to explain what had happened, she cut me off & said they would not remake my order because I had taken someone else's food. I had not even had a chance to explain that I had only returned because the kimchi I paid for was missing.
After I clarified that I simply wanted the missing ingredient added to my sandwiches, the kitchen put two tiny pieces of kimchi inside & handed them back to me.
Mistakes & mix-ups happen, especially with takeout orders. This could have been resolved in seconds with a calm conversation, but instead I was treated with unnecessary hostility over a basic misunderstanding. I'm not sure whether the owner is aware of how customers are being treated, but this was easily the worst customer service experience I've had in Montreal.
I would give zero stars if I could. For such a simple takeout order, the way this situation was handled was impressively bad.
What a fantastic experience! Friendly & welcoming atmosphere. Lovely café.
Love this coffee, I definitely recommend. The pastries & the matcha are so good!
Update: A year ago I wrote about an unhappy visit here. Recently, I went back with a couple of friends, & am happy to say it was a positive experience. Pleasant staff, options for vegans like me, a very positive vibe. I'm happy to update my review & add a couple of stars (I'll leave one more once I'm again impressed by another visit!).
A nice little place, I wish I could look forward to returning, but I won't. I went three times, & asked if I could get a vegan sandwich each time. The first time, the sandwich was great, a delight. The next time, they were not up on what vegan means & put in a fried egg. The most recent time, the person working the counter just said no, told me to look at the menu, said she was busy & turned her back on me. I went around the corner to Clarke Cafe, where the service was prompt & friendly & I got a great vegan sandwich. Goodbye Café Bloom.
