Absolutely breathtaking! This icon from Montreal history has come back like a Fenix. The decor is incredible, art deco like in the days. A must do! I was there for a special private event for the second time. I can't wait to try the public restaurant.
Celebrated our 48th wedding anniversary last night at le 9e Restaurant Ile de France. It was a wonderful experience! Our waitress Erika helped with our meal selection & it was a great choice. Special thanks to the manager, Marco for making our evening amazingly unforgettable. We strongly recommend this beautiful art deco restaurant.
WOW!!! From the moment you enter the lobby you will be impressed with the beautiful art deco theme. The restaurant is beautiful, the service & food are great. Don't forget to check out the event space before you leave, it's gorgeous.
Wonderful fun evening out with friends! A great time in a gorgeous space with a nice meal, a very good cocktail list & a very good wine list. Warm ambience in a light hearted friendly atmosphere with historic design.
Absolutely perfect evening. This was one of the things I did not want to miss on my trip to Montréal. I had read articles about the restoration, & a friend with excellent taste had said it was one of her favourites, so I was excited to be able to try it for myself on my final evening in the city. I made a reservation for one & was seated at the bar (this seems to be the norm for solo diners as the bar had several places set). While this sometimes means the service isn't going to be at the usual level, my experience was absolutely the opposite. I felt incredibly well taken care of the entire evening, & it was enjoyable to watch drinks being made & the oysters being prepared. Good restaurants should always recognize that a solo diner is often there specifically to appreciate the food & the service, & I felt this was the case at le 9e. From the moment I entered the elevator lobby on the main floor, every single staff member I encountered was friendly & welcoming. I was impressed by the service. My water glass was never empty, & when I accidentally dropped my phone when putting it away for my meal, it was immediately picked up & handed to me before I could even hop off my barstool. There was a slight hiccup in getting a wine list to order a glass with my meal, but it was quickly presented by the man I now realize was the operations manager who made some suggestions (also, he was on the floor the entire time & I saw him pitching in, which is a sign of someone who really cares about the service). Shortly after I was seated, the bartender took my order for a cocktail to begin. The cocktail menu features classics in keeping with the retro elegance of the restored restaurant, which adds to the charm, as well as some modern interpretations. Like the food (as I would experience) it was presented nicely but without a fuss, with a focus on the quality of the flavours not elaborate presentation. My meal was perfect. I started with the asparagus, which was beautifully done, ideal crispness & not overwhelmed by too much sauce. It is my favourite vegetable when it is in season, & I was pleased with the simple but appealing presentation. I followed that with the steak frites, which is accompanied by beurre Café de Paris. This is not often an option on menus at home in Alberta, so I was delighted to see it there. My request to have my steak saignant was met, & it was presented nicely sliced, again, simple but appealing. The fries were some of the best I've had, crisp exterior & very tender inside. There were masses of them so I couldn't finish, although I was tempted to try. I finished with a white chocolate dessert, which was perhaps the least exciting part of the meal. It was enjoyable but not spectacular, & the raspberry coulis in the middle was not distributed well, so it was only at the very center of the dome that I finally got some, & then it was overpowering the white chocolate. This is probably just an assembly issue, but it affected the balance of the dessert. I was also not expecting a cake (cookie?) base inside. I think this item could be improved, perhaps as a panna cotta with raspberry & lemon. It wasn't bad, per se, but it didn't meet the level of the rest of the meal, so it was a bit of a low note to end on. I followed this with an espresso, which was balanced & well made. The ambiance is enjoyable, with an elegant restoration that honours the art deco style of this historic venue without being campy (a difficult balance). It is not the quietest place, partly because there are so many hard surfaces, but it was not overwhelming. For a solo diner, a seat at the bar provides a perfect spot for people watching & to enjoy the energy of the evening dinner service. This sounds funny, but also don't miss the chance to see the bathrooms, which are also nicely renovated but keep the historic elements. Sadly, there was an event on in the old main dining room, so I couldn't take a look, but I'm hoping I can see that on my next visit.
Good restaurant, seems to benefit greatly from the historical hype of the name. Professional staff (dress code could be better: jeans, sneakers...), good decor, & quick service. Loved the small museum at the entrance, & nice furniture. Food was good, but I was honestly expecting a little more. Salmon portion was tiny (quite different from other pictures posted), & no sides came with it. Cheesecake was burnt: good but not exceptional. Would recommend the restaurant, if just to experience this legendary location, but it would get 5 stars if the food was truly exceptional!
Beautiful decor & atmosphere, friendly & knowledgeable staff, great menu options. Please order the Seafood Tower!
The service at Le 9e was incredible - they were all authentic, professional, & welcoming - & it was our server's first shift! Delicious food, too, so we'll be going back for the beer-battered cod, lobster ravioli, & the lime & basil tarts from Café Bazin. 👌🏼
Last night I had the pleasure of dining at Ile de France- Le 9e restaurant & it was an extraordinary experience from start to finish. The ambiance was elegant & inviting, creating the perfect setting for a memorable evening. The staff were exceptionally attentive & knowledgeable, ensuring that every detail of our dining experience was flawless. Ile de France is a culinary gem, & I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience. I can't wait to return & try more of their exquisite dishes.
An unforgettable dining experience ! We began the evening with super fresh oysters , followed by delicious lobster ravioli bathed in a rich sauce. The lamb was cooked to perfection. The dessert was sublime. The service was spectacular - attentive, knowledgeable & passionate. The restaurant is in an Art Deco setting, very impressive. An evening here is a journey through time & luxury. Special thanks to Derick for being an amazing waiter.
Our evening at Restaurant Le 9ème was truly memorable, largely thanks to Sarah, the outstanding hostess who ensured our spontaneous visit was seamless. Despite being walk-ins, Sarah found us a prime table with a smile that set the tone for the evening. The ambiance was a perfect blend of cozy & upscale, complementing the exceptional dishes served. Each plate was a masterpiece of flavor & presentation, clearly crafted with care & quality ingredients. The service was attentive yet unobtrusive, enhancing our dining experience. Overall, Restaurant Le 9ème exceeded our expectations with its warm hospitality, delightful ambiance, & exquisite cuisine. Sarah's exceptional service made our visit truly special, making this restaurant a must-visit for anyone seeking a remarkable dining experience
Wow. Just wow! The space the service & the food. Looking forward to our next visit!
Beautiful venue! Felt very fancy but prices & service were very down to earth. Food was good. Tons of seafood, so if one doesn't eat seafood there are less options in the appetizer section.
An absolute brilliant meal..We are a younger couple that wouldn't mind a little bit of action. When we first walked in, a touch of uncertainty hit us... As the exterior light got lower, the mood & vibe increased inside. The food was immaculate, legit... every single dish. The baked oyster was the most memorable dish in a bevy of perfect plates... Order more than one, we wish we had. Emmanuel provided stellar service for a multilingual table French/English/Spanish... I likely sound like a friend of the restaurant, but I am not. I would definitely return & recommend. Don't skip the cocktail bar, one of the highlights of the night...The fact that we only managed to snap 3 pics out of all the dishes lends to the idea we were more consumed with the food/vibe than capturing pictures for our social media.
