I'm visiting Montreal & decided to stop by L'Artisan des Délices sans gluten & sans lait after seeing multiple reviews from May saying it was one of the better gluten-free bakeries in the city. Based on the feedback, I had fairly high expectations.
I ordered a spinach pie & accepted their offer to warm it up, but I was disappointed from the first bite. The texture of the dough was worse once warmed-very soggy & unpleasant, even compared to how it looked in the display case. At $8.95, I expected something much better. I also assumed there would be some kind of cheese component (even dairy-free), but it tasted like plain spinach only, which made it feel underwhelming & not worth the price.
I also tried the plain croissant. While it looked flaky, it ended up being doughy & soggy in the middle. I understand that many gluten-free baked goods use rice flour, which can affect texture, but this still missed the mark for me.
I picked up a bag of bagels as well ($9.99 for 5), which I haven't tried yet. I'm hoping those turn out better, because so far I haven't been impressed with the baked goods I sampled.
Overall, this felt like a waste of both money & appetite, especially since I went out of my way to visit. Based on this experience, I wouldn't return on a future trip to Montreal & would Just skip eating baked goods & these types of products altogether.
I finally tried this gluten-free bakery after it was recommended to me, & wow - absolutely delicious! You honestly can't even tell the pastries are gluten-free or dairy-free. They taste just like the real thing!
I got an apricot danish & a chocolate éclair, & both were incredible. My friend tried a blueberry danish & loved it too. I also grabbed a couple of cinnamon rolls from their freezer section to bake at home - can't wait to try them!
The prices were very reasonable, the owner was super sweet & friendly, & the place itself was clean, cozy, & inviting. It's a small, cute spot that was actually pretty busy when I went, which is always a good sign.
I feel so lucky that it's walking distance from my house - I'll definitely be going back often. Next time, I'm 100% trying one of their full cakes!
I grabbed two desserts recently. They still have a good mille-feuille & it's still vegan; there are two flavors: original (vanilla) & rasberry (but wasn't available that day)
I also tried their pistachio eclair but cream on the inside was off. It had an unpleasant chemically taste to it.
The bakery doesn't have a lot of vegan items but I believe you can preorder some of their pies & tarts & ask for a vegan version on demande. Apart from that, all of their stuff is dairy free
Wow. You would never guess everything here is gluten & dairy free! The bread, pastries & desserts are all delicious!! Tasty take away lunch options too.
I visited just about all of Montreal's gluten-free bakeries during my visit, & this one was by far my favorite. A huge variety of pastries, all gluten- & dairy-free, but by some kind of magic taste like regular gluten-filled pastries. I asked the server what her favorite of the breakfast pastries were & without hesitation she said the apricot danish. It wouldn't have been my first choice & I haven't seen it mentioned in other reviews, but glad I got the rec as it was one of the best foods I've ever eaten! Light, flaky, just the right amount of sweet. Also got a croissant to go, which was delicious slightly warmed the next day.
A must for anyone who cannot have dairy or gluten. Even if you can, you can't taste the difference! Such a big choice of pastries & cakes. The croissant was lovely & flaky which I haven't had since going gluten free. The Paris Brest & Fruit Tartlette were also incredible.
As someone who can't tolerate lactose & doesn't handle gluten well, I was thrilled to discover this place. Seeing their great reviews on Google made me very curious to try it, & I'm so glad I did!
The shop is clean, the display counter is large, & everything looks incredibly tempting. My boyfriend & I debated for a while before deciding to be reasonable & pick one pastry each, along with a box of macarons to-go. & wow-these were by far the best gluten- & dairy-free pastries I've ever had. The texture was light & fluffy, without that dry, crumbly feel that so many gluten-free options tend to have. If I hadn't known, I would have never guessed they were gluten-free! My boyfriend, who has no dietary restrictions, also couldn't tell the difference & really enjoyed his pastry.
The prices are very reasonable, especially for such a specialized bakery. I'll definitely be coming back to try more of their products & truly wish them all the best with their business!
I bought the pistachio eclair, an almond pear danish & a chocolate almond croissant to last me the next three days I'm here. Heaven! The eclair was filled with a non dairy cream that was probably the best I've ever had. It didn't have a hint of soy or coconut like others do. I high recommend visiting this place! I might go back a second time for the next leg of my trip.
Gluten free, & dairy free paradise! Even if you can have dairy you will be delighted. Eclairs, croissants, danishes with fresh raspberries, & a chicken/mushroom turnover were part of my purchase. My only wish is that I could have visited again & tried more.
We brought my 15 year old niece to Canada for the first time. She is gluten & dairy free. We read reviews & researched places for her to try croissants. We tried other places but this was the best by far!!! The croissants were flaky, tasted buttery & had excellent flavor! We tried the chocolate croissant, cinnamon roll & plain croissant. We all loved them so much! The staff were very kind & helpful! The desserts looked incredible & we only wished we had more room in our stomachs to try them too!
Out of this world gluten free & dairy free treats & breads!! I would drive the 6 hours from my house just for the danish. I got 12 pastries & all of them were delicious.
This is by far the best gluten free bakery in Canada. 😁 Everything is gluten & dairy free, & no other things that bother my tummy, so it's super safe. & TASTY!!! Noone even knows it's gluten free. The pistachio tarts are out of this world, & even before I knew I had celiac, I didn't eat pastries, but I do now! 😂 It's also very low key, quick service, easy parking, easy-going staff, very reasonably priced, & just no-nonsense. Just yummy, safe treats!! So grateful to all who makes this all possible!! 😊
Worth the trip! I was a little worried about everything being dairy free ( I usually don't avoid dairy), but the croissant was still so flaky & buttery. Good service , although heads up it's cash only under $20 (though I'm sure you'll find enough to go over that limit)
It was my first time trying croissant that are dairy & gluten free & I must say that it was delicious.
The gluten free mill feuille is exquisite & delicious! You would never think it was gluten & dairy free! The croissants & chocolate au pain are amazing my favourite in the city! The staff are very friendly! You can't go & have a coffee as it's not really a sit down cafe but rather a bakery ( which there's nothing wrong with that but the reason why I gave two stars for atmosphere being as it's not the type of place to sit down & enjoy dessert with friends or family which is to bad given the limited places someone with celiac has in Montreal ) . All in all great pastries for the celiac community as well as others to enjoy ☺️
