Review Summary

Reviews paint Lakshana's Chettinad as a place with strong value and consistently good food, where dishes like dosas, biryani, butter chicken, lamb preparations and a beloved sambar rice are frequently praised and portions are described as generous. The service and atmosphere are often highlighted as a key plus, with friendly staff, attentive care, and a warm, rustic setting, though a few notes mention language barriers or occasional lapses in service. Many diners single out the dosas, chutneys, and naan as standouts and repeatedly applaud the richness of flavors and the quality across meals such as chicken thali, chicken biryani, and vegetarian options. A minority report issues including greasy meat, overly spicy butter chicken, or inconsistencies that some attribute to ownership changes. Overall, Lakshana's Chettinad is seen as a reliable go to for south Indian flavors in the area, with several visitors making repeat trips and recommending it for affordable, flavorful meals.

Loved their dosa's . Best dosa's I have tried in Montreal so far. Their Kara masala dosa & paneer garlic dosa are amazing. Their coconut chutney & sambar is to die for. Tried their medi wads with sambar it was amazing.

Had an amazing dinner with our uncle & aunt... four of us ordered 3 type of Dosas ie Mysore Masala dosa, Chicken Chettinad dosa & Podi dosa with ghee kothu paratha , Rava Kesari & Mysore pak...It was amazing specially the coconut & garlic chutney with the dosas reminding us of our local udupi restaurants in mumbai. The hostess who was Punjabi but used to live in himachal (sorry forgot to ask her name) was delightful catered to our small demands & always smiling. We would definitely visit this place if we we ever pass through montreal again.

Lakshana Chettinad's dosas are heavenly for the one who appreciate authentic South Indian cuisine. The dosas, with their perfect crispiness & golden-brown edges, are a culinary delight. The texture is thin yet substantial, while the flavor carries the right balance of savory & tangy, often achieved through a well-fermented batter. They serve a variety of dosas, including classic plain dosas & masala dosas stuffed with flavorful spiced potatoes. The accompanying chutneys-like coconut, tomato, & garlic-add an extra layer of flavor, while the sambar is perfectly seasoned, providing a comforting & hearty accompaniment. The combination of high-quality ingredients & traditional Chettinad methods makes these dosas a must-try for anyone seeking authentic South Indian flavors. Lakshana Chettinad has managed to capture the essence of this beloved dish, delivering a memorable experience with each bite.

It's definitely a good south Indian restaurant with good food & quick service. We were happy to eat dosas & vadas after a few days of non south Indian food & lakshana's did not disappoint. The sambar was good & the chutneys were great ( little spicy for kids liking )

Masala dosa & idli were great! But the white chutney that comes along with them was super salty- as if the salt was added twice or thrice. I noticed there were no drumsticks in Sambhaar, maybe a cost cutting issue - but the taste was good. Dosa was crispy & the potato masala was also yum. Idlis were soft & fluffy. The wait times for placing an order or getting your food are very high.

The only Indian restaurant in the immediate neighborhood. Their medhu vadas are absolutely delicious - crispy on the outside & soft & fluffy on the inside, go very well with the saambaar & coconut chutney. The kothu parottas & dosas are also pretty good. The staff are also very friendly!

I forgot I placed a big order in skip the dishes over a year ago but I don't remember if I really really liked or if it was just good. I should get it again. Update: I went in person & ordered the garlic masala dosa & it was incredible! I want to try all the menu items so I'll be returning every time I'm on cote des neiges. The waitress was cool & nice & the tables were clean, it was air conditioned & there's even a number you can call if you're having any problems or have feedback. Love a restaurant that takes accountability seriously. The value is beyond reasonable: for 11.99+tax & tip you feel so full & satisfied. Hard to get that these days. Edit: came back & had the chai tea & it came in a to go cup with plastic lid even though I was eating in resto. I found that a bit lacking because I wanted the waste free zen experience of drinking tea. Not the best chai tea ever but still very good. After that I had the lentil doughnuts with Sambar & coconut chutney. A nice snack if you're not that hungry. Kept me going throughout the day . Edit 3: came back to have the veg kothu parotta & it was nice with raita. Will be back to try more menu items :)
