Review Summary

Lahmajoune Villeray is described as a warm, family run spot that serves fresh, authentic Middle Eastern fare with a focus on handmade lahmajoune. The dough is thin and crisp, fillings are flavorful and well balanced, and the accompanying hummus, muhammara, kebbeh and grape leaves are consistently praised for freshness and quality. Portions are generous and prices very reasonable, making it a reliable value, while the service is repeatedly noted as friendly, welcoming and attentive from start to finish. Guests appreciate the wide variety of items, including manakeesh, baklava and other dips, all made in house with care, and many highlight a cozy, neighborhood vibe and convenient takeout. The place is often called a neighborhood gem and a must visit for authentic, well executed Middle Eastern cuisine in Montreal, with many returning regularly for favorites and eager to try new dishes.

Though I visited Montreal many times & sometimes for extended periods, this place was a very lovely surprise. I was craving middle Eastern pies (manakesh), & a Google search led me to this place. It is 10 min walk from Jean Talon market. They have few vegetarian options, including an extremely yummy vegetarian kebeh! It was a very pleasant surprise. The person who served me was very energetic with a lovely smile & bubbly personality. It is a highly recommended place to try!

A gem I recently discovered! Finally a good tasty lahm baajin in Mtl :) Delicious! & omg the baklavas. The juiciest I ever tasted. Don't miss them! Prices are super fair for what you get & the owner is so sweet & polite. Will definitely be back, they serve such a variety of middle eastern dishes.

I had the pleasure of visiting Lahmajoune Villeray yesterday , & I can't stop thinking about how incredible my experience was. As a foodie who has a Turkish bestfriend & enjoys Turkish lahmajoune at her childhood house whenever she visits , I had to give this place a try-& I'm so glad I did! Located in the heart of Villeray, this cozy takeout spot has been serving the local community for over 40 years, & now I completely understand why. Owned by a warm & welcoming Syrian family, the restaurant truly feels like an extension of their deep passion for sharing their rich culinary heritage. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite on the go, taking home a full meal, or planning a get-together, Lahmajoune Villeray consistently delivers top-notch quality in every dish.

I'll be posting a video review on TikTok (@Foxy.appetite) & Instagram (@Foxyappetite) soon!

In depth review:

Food Quality:

During my visit, I decided to try a few items I'd never had before, including the namoura & mouhamara, both of which exceeded my expectations. The namoura-a sweet semolina cake soaked in syrup-was rich & moist, with a delicate floral note that made it a perfect ending to my meal. The mouhamara, a smoky, tangy dip made with roasted red peppers, walnuts, & olive oil, was bold & flavorful with just the right amount of spice. It paired wonderfully with their perfectly seasoned pita chips.

I also ordered both the meat & vegetarian kibbeh, & they were outstanding. The meat version was rich & flavorful, while the vegetarian option was equally delicious-surprisingly moist & packed with hearty ingredients & spices. A real treat!

Another standout was the hummus, which was silky smooth & creamy, with a perfect balance of flavors. The tzatziki was equally impressive-fresh, creamy, & refreshing, with a lovely balance of cucumber & herbs that complemented the richer dips & meats beautifully. & the tabbouleh-wow! It was so light, fresh, & bursting with zesty lemon flavor, making it the ideal palate cleanser.

Of course, I can't forget the Lahmajoune. The thin, crisp flatbread topped with spiced ground meat was simply perfect. Each bite was full of flavor but never greasy, showcasing the ideal balance of savory spices. It's clear that they've truly perfected this dish.

Service:

What really made my experience unforgettable, however, was the exceptional service. The family behind Lahmajoune Villeray is incredibly warm & welcoming, making you feel like you're not just a customer but a guest in their home. They genuinely care about both the food & the overall experience they provide, & that's evident in every interaction.

Atmosphere:

While Lahmajoune Villeray is primarily a takeout spot (perfect for grabbing something delicious to enjoy at home or on the go), the small shop itself is clean, cozy, & inviting. The space reflects the family's passion for good food & hospitality. While it's not meant for a sit-down dining experience, it's the perfect spot to quickly pick up a delicious meal.

Conclusion:

If you're in Montreal & craving authentic Mediterranean food, Lahmajoune Villeray is an absolute must-visit. From the silky hummus & flavorful mouhamara to the crispy lahmajoune & mouthwatering desserts, every bite bursts with flavor & is made with care. The family's dedication to quality & hospitality is evident in everything they do. Whether you're a fan of Middle Eastern cuisine or someone new to it, this hidden gem will leave a lasting impression. Highly recommended!

I loved everything I got. The hummus, muhammara, & stuffed vine leaves were fantastic. I also enjoyed the spinach pies & vegetarian kibbeh, the flavours & spices were harmonious. I used their pita chips for my fattoush salad I made myself. I liked the fact that they were not too greasy compared to other similar places that make them. The zaater manahish were also delicious. The only complaint is I wish they were just a little bigger & thinner so it would be easier to wrap them as I love stuffing them with lots of fresh veggies. This place is worth the trip & one of the best for Middle Eastern take out. I think they're Armenian in origin & it would have been amazing to find eetch, one of my favourite salads. Maybe I didn't see it or next time I will ask. Lots of vegan options which I was very happy about. Prices are reasonable as I paid only 60 for all that food & it was excellent quality. Definitely coming here whenever I am in the area.
