We were disappointed that the exquisite squash ravioli was no longer on the winter menu but the vodka rosé rigatoni made up for it. The dessert of the moment was also incredible; like a soft shell chewy pistachio volcano with a cake-stuffed meringue centre. We will be back very soon xo
Beautiful restaurant with attentive service. The food is delicious, from flavorful pastas to perfectly cooked chicken Parmesan. The Brussels sprouts are a must-try & the cocktails, especially the margaritas, are excellent. A wonderful spot for a fun & memorable night out.
La Spada offers a truly enjoyable dining experience We started with the burrata & the eggplant parmigiana both were full of flavor, & well balanced. The pasta with duck was rich & perfectly cooked, pairing wonderfully with our wine selection. We also enjoyed two martinis, which were expertly made & complemented the meal nicely.
What really elevated the experience was the service. Our waiter was extremely friendly, attentive, & genuinely welcoming, which made the evening even more pleasant. The atmosphere is cozy & inviting, with a great energy throughout the restaurant. You can feel that the whole team enjoys what they do.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for excellent Italian food, warm hospitality, & a relaxed yet refined ambiance in Montreal.
The service was good & the staff were friendly, but unfortunately the food was very disappointing!
The focaccia was cold & tough rather than soft. The meatballs weren't anything special; they lacked spices, leaving only the taste of plain meat & tomato sauce. The calamari was far too oily, & the mushroom balls were tasteless (especially if you try them without the truffle cream). Lastly, the mozzarella pesto pasta (the pasta of the day) was very chewy, despite being told it was fresh

La Spada is an absolute gem.
We had the most incredible experience from start to finish, thanks especially to Chanelle - truly one of the best bartenders & servers we've ever had. Her energy, attention, & creativity made the night unforgettable. The drinks she crafted were mind?blowing.
& the food… wow. The homemade pappardelle was on another level - rich, fresh, & easily one of the best pasta dishes I've had anywhere. Every bite felt like a little trip to Italy.
If you're looking for amazing Italian food, exceptional service, & a warm, welcoming atmosphere, La Spada is a must. We can't wait to go back.
Update to my previous review
Shortly after posting my initial feedback, Scott, the owner, reached out directly. He was genuinely concerned about the experience we had. It is rare to see that level of care. He invited us back for a meal so we could experience La Spada as it was intended.
We returned on November 13, & this visit was a completely different story.
The service was exceptional. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, & took the time to walk us through the specials & the origins of the dishes.
We ordered the Foccacia, Polpette, Casarecce alla Funghi, & the Agnolotti di Zucca e Ricotta.
The meal was outstanding. La Spada truly is the hidden gem people talk about.
The Funghi pasta was one of the best I have ever had. The balance between the sauce & the pasta was perfect. You could taste the depth of the mushrooms in every bite. Many restaurants serve Funghi pasta, but often the flavor disappears into the cream or the seasoning. Here, the mushroom remains the hero of the dish from start to finish.
The Agnolotti was another standout. Creamy, rich, & perfectly al dente. The subtle crunch of hazelnut added a layer of texture & flavor that tied the dish together beautifully.
The Polpette was the star of the night. Juicy, tender, & served in a generous amount of sauce. Simple ingredients, elevated execution. It was incredible.
The Foccacia was very good, although overshadowed slightly by how exceptional the other dishes were.
Thank you to Scott for inviting us back & showing us what La Spada represents. An elevated Italian culinary experience tucked away in Saint Henri.
We will definitely be returning to try more of the pasta lineup.
Visited on Wednesday, October 29. I had high expectations after hearing incredible things & seeing glowing reviews online.
The evening started strong. The hostess was warm & welcoming, & we were seated quickly. The space itself is breathtaking. Elegant, sophisticated, & thoughtfully designed, La Spada feels like a hidden gem the moment you walk in.
Unfortunately, the service & food did not live up to the setting.
We ordered the Pappardelle Ragù d'Anatra, Carbonara Special, & the Arancini Specials. Our friends chose the Caesar Salad & Radiatori alla Vodka.
The servers were kind, but the execution needs refinement. One of our appetizers was missed, & when it finally arrived, the plate was dropped onto the table, splattering cheese onto my pants. They apologized & cleaned up quickly, but the experience set the tone for the rest of the meal.
When our mains arrived, the same server accidentally dropped half a block of grated Parmesan into my pasta. Thankfully, I like cheese, but it added to an already shaky service experience.
As for the food:
The Carbonara Special was nearly inedible, overwhelmingly salty to the point where even water would not have helped balance it.
The Arancini were excellent, crisp, flavorful, & well-seasoned.
The Pappardelle Ragù d'Anatra was also very good. Tender duck & rich flavor brought that dish together beautifully.
The Radiatori alla Vodka & Caesar Salad were fine, but unremarkable.
Overall, La Spada delivers a gorgeous ambiance but fails where it truly counts, which is consistency, flavor, & service. At this price point, expectations are naturally higher, & unfortunately, the experience did not meet them.
It is a shame, because the space & potential are there. But after this visit, I highly recommend everyone to avoid. You can easily find better Italian food with better service elsewhere.
La Spada is a fantastic new addition to the dining scene. From the moment you walk in, the vibrant atmosphere & welcoming staff make you feel right at home. The owner Scott & waiters (especially Liam) are attentive & quick, ensuring a seamless dining experience.
The food is simply exceptional. As someone who usually skips salads, I was surprised to find myself finishing the caesar salad, which was fresh & flavorful. The veal was the juiciest I've ever tasted - cooked to perfection. The pasta with mussels (forgot the French name) was also a standout, offering a perfect mix of quality ingredients & mouth watering flavours.
La Spada is a must visit for anyone looking for an authentic & enjoyable Italian dining experience. I can't wait to return next time I'm in Montreal.
Honestly, my experience was outstanding. The food was excellent , the duck pasta is absolutely incredible. The service was warm yet professional, & Louana, our waitress, was amazing from start to finish. The manager even came by to share a great story about the Pizzaiolo steak, which made the experience feel even more personal. Overall, a fantastic night .I'll definitely be back very soon.
The overall experience was average. The Caesar salad was very basic & didn't stand out, especially for the price we paid. The pasta ragu was relatively good, but the lamb chops were disappointing - not what I expected in terms of flavor or tenderness as compared to other italian restaurants.
Service started off quite slow, though it improved as the meal went on. To their credit, the manager came over personally to address my dissatisfaction, which I appreciated. They even offered a complimentary dessert, which was a nice gesture & showed good customer care.
Overall, decent service but the food quality didn't quite justify the price.
Food & service were amazing!
I was recommended this place by a friend & it did not disappoint. The only thing I'd like to point out that the beef tartare was a bit sour to my liking but other than that the pastas we ordered was spot on, the garlic potatoes was good & the Caesar salad was great.
We were supposed to go to another restaurant for our anniversary, but decided to pop in as this restaurant is closer to our place & the hostess was kind enough to accommodate our unexpected arrival. Right when you walk in, you notice the ambiance is spot on - never been to Rome specifically but everything felt right from decor to the menu. Mood was also amplified by the amazing Dean Martin classics they were playing.
Food was delicious, la Spada is a homey eatery that serves simple Roman classics, executed very well. The vitello saltimbocca was the highlight, reading some reviews saying its salty - not sure what they expected with a dish wrapped in prosciutto. The salt was nicely balanced with a squeeze of lemon & the buttery wine sauce they served it with, I cleaned the bone despite being full. Pasta was perfectly cooked & portions were generous. I thought the price of the pasta was high at first glance but the portion you get is certainly worth it.
We had the pleasure of being served by Liam who was attentive but for the most part let us enjoy our dinner (the way it should be). Someone, who I believe was the owner, came over to check in on us - its clear that these people care about their clients & the food they serve. The lower reviews I read seemed unjustified from my experience; disgruntled individuals who complain no matter what, or come with lots of entitlement & very little understanding.
Thank you La Spada!
This restaurant is nicely decorated & has a great atmosphere, although they could think of better music to play. The food unfortunately is overpriced for what it is. We enjoyed the branzino & the Brussels sprouts. The pasta was alright, but the portion was way too large for a primo. The tiramisu was really quite sad…
They seem to have issues with pacing of the food. When we had just received our appetizer, all our other courses were thrown at the table. Besides that these dishes didn't all fit on the small table at the same time & made it uncomfortable to eat, it's honestly just a big no go to serve mains at the same time as the primi…we felt rushed & most of the food was cold by the time we got to it.
We really wanted to love this restaurant but were disappointed in the overall experience provided.
Amazing experience at La Spada! Beautifully decorated like a restaurant in the heart of Rome we got sharing platters for a table of 7 & they accommodated us at every step. Starting with a salty warm foccacia that went so well with the traditional tortellini soup. We had the arancini, broccolini, Brussels sprouts, vodka pasta, ragu pasta, 20oz steak & lamb chops. Everything was absolutely delectable, all served by a warm & knowledgeable Luca. Amazing culinary experience overall, highly recommend!!
best pasta place in montreal, & luca was the nicest & cutest serve
Excellent restaurant. The place is really nice with friendly staff. The food was excellent. From the octopus, calamari, caesar salad, meatballs, pasta & the lamb. Everything was wonderful. Looking forward to be back soon.
The food was pretty good. Some hits but some weird misses. The frito misto & the pappardelle was incredible but 2/3 of the pastas (the vodka & the fusilli) were so bland I was questioning if they came from the same restaurant that just made the frito misto & the pappardelle I was raving about. The branzino was also incredible. The service was fine. Servers were nice but the pacing of the course was super slow. Slow enough to ask where the food was. Great scene & atmosphere
It was my friend's birthday so we decided to go full baller. I heard great things about this place & it didn't disappoint.
Cool family style Italian restaurant decor, but definitely with bougie accents. The crowd fit the decor perfectly.
The menu is classic Italian. We chose the focaccia, arancini - they change every week - & the burrata.
We skipped the pasta & went for a big ol' cowboy steak we split between us, with roasted potatoes & brocolini. Everything was fantastic, the bread had a salty crust which was delicious, the arancini perfect & the best steak I've had in quite a while. The sauce was unnecessary, but too good to not use.
Big kudos on the wine list too, lots of variety & natural options.
The only minor criticism was that when we were asked to vacate our table & finish our digestivo at the bar to let other patrons get seated, I would have expected a token gesture on their part - a shot or dessert to split. But I guess this is 2025 & the rules of dining out have changed.
Either way, we had a fabulous meal, the staff was nice, very professional.
Definitely not a cheap night out, but the quality & value were there, so I recommend this spot.
Service was really nice & food was pretty good. We tried the caesar salad (huge btw), special of the day (cacio e pepe arancini), ragu & carbonara. Appetizers were excellent. Ragu was full of flavors & depth but a bit too salty for us. Carbonara was good but something was missing (sauce was not sticking to the pasta). Overall nice experience!
Food, staff & vibes were excellent ! Focaccia & broccolini are a must try. Also any pasta won't be a disappointment !!
