I had dinner last night at this spot.
Where to start!! It was beyond my expectations.
The food was excellent, the décor was fancy & elegant, & the waiters were dressed in a Gatsby vibe (nothing vulgar).
The service was excellent. It was my friend's birthday - they offered a dessert, & they even took the time to prepare a special cocktail & offered it to us!
I met the manager; very nice & friendly.
I didn't feel the urge to consume more food or drinks, unlike other places in Montreal.
Definitely a restaurant to go back to again & again.
We were there last night for my husband's birthday celebration. The restaurant has cosy atmosphere & great service. We ordered the calamari mix fried appetizer dish; it was very salty, seafood pieces had too much batter & they were overcooked, calamari wasn't tender & the dish was overpriced. I ordered the duckragú pappardelle, it was delicious but very salty. My husband ordered the day's special square spaghetti with beef but it was very very salty. We switched the plates halfway so we both could have less salty & better dish. I still could rate 4 stars, but unfortunately they even forgot to put a little candle on my husband's dessert although I kindly asked them in a message on opentable a couple of hours earlier & they replied me as'no problem'. When his dessert arrived on table with no candle, I was disappointed. Anyway we had a great night. I wish the dishes weren't so salty:(
The overall experience was average. The Caesar salad was very basic & didn't stand out, especially for the price we paid. The pasta ragu was relatively good, but the lamb chops were disappointing - not what I expected in terms of flavor or tenderness as compared to other italian restaurants.
Service started off quite slow, though it improved as the meal went on. To their credit, the manager came over personally to address my dissatisfaction, which I appreciated. They even offered a complimentary dessert, which was a nice gesture & showed good customer care.
Overall, decent service but the food quality didn't quite justify the price.
Top-quality Italian restaurant. High prices, consistent offerings, friendly service, & a sophisticated atmosphere. The food is well-seasoned, the beers are reasonably priced, & the desserts are well-executed. They have the closest pesto to the traditional Italian flavor in Montreal.
It was my friend's birthday so we decided to go full baller. I heard great things about this place & it didn't disappoint.
Cool family style Italian restaurant decor, but definitely with bougie accents. The crowd fit the decor perfectly.
The menu is classic Italian. We chose the focaccia, arancini - they change every week - & the burrata.
We skipped the pasta & went for a big ol' cowboy steak we split between us, with roasted potatoes & brocolini. Everything was fantastic, the bread had a salty crust which was delicious, the arancini perfect & the best steak I've had in quite a while. The sauce was unnecessary, but too good to not use.
Big kudos on the wine list too, lots of variety & natural options.
The only minor criticism was that when we were asked to vacate our table & finish our digestivo at the bar to let other patrons get seated, I would have expected a token gesture on their part - a shot or dessert to split. But I guess this is 2025 & the rules of dining out have changed.
Either way, we had a fabulous meal, the staff was nice, very professional.
Definitely not a cheap night out, but the quality & value were there, so I recommend this spot.
Nice restaurant & ambiance, great service! Good menu with lots of options. Octopus was good, not the best, but pleasant dish to share, good portion. Tortellini in brodo was ok. Broccolini was burned, tasted like camping cooking. Filet mignon was too expensive for what it was. Also came already cut in slices. Ragu pappardelle had a very good taste, portion was generous, unfortunately the pasta were way overcooked. Dessert was amazing!
I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time &, last night, I finally got the opportunity. It did not disappoint. Everything was on point from our greeting by our hostess to dessert.
Our server was very attentive & made a good wine recommendation. The dishes were delicious, plentiful & arrived at our table quickly.
The decor was casual chic & classic Italian songs played in the background.
Overall nice ambiance & decor but the waiter was very pushy & we felt rushed. Rushed to order, rushed to eat, & rushed to pay & leave. Examples include coming to take the order within minutes of arrival & coming back quickly after we told him we hadn't looked at the menu. Another example is when he took unfinished appetizer plates while still eating. He then forgot to bring an appetizer which he later brought. After done eating mains he offered desserts & when we declined he said "well it's time for bills then". Minutes after ordering a 2nd bottle of wine, he explained we needed to leave within 30 minutes because they had another group coming. Food was decent. The green salad, suppli & calamari were great. The orecchiette alla stracciatella & the carbonara were cold. I know these plates aren't supposed be scorching because of the fresh cheese & egg yolks but it was too cold. The carbonara felt they added too much pasta water, thereby lacking creaminess & taste. Quality of the pasta was very good.
Great atmosphere, decent service, mediocre food. The appetizers where okay, the branzino was nice, the lamb was wonderful but the pasta was terrible. Out of 4 pasta dishes tried, 1 was okay. The tortellini was the worst. Tuna tartare was not good, the tagliatelle was really really not good, dry papery shredded pork. Oh & the desserts, you could of knocked out someone with the cheesecake it was so dense & hard, & a grainy tiramisu followed…. Maybe they should outsource their desserts if no one knows how to make them in the kitchen…. Service was okay, but we had to serve ourselves wine a few times, asked for water a few times, at some point they were bringing food but half the table had no plates & no one had utensils….at the end of the night the waiter pushed back on us buying another bottle of wine because he said there was only a half hour left before closure, I've never ever known of a restaurant not wanting to make a wine sale (to be noted it was a sat night, the resto was still half full, & we were 8ppl so that's a glass each)! Overall it was okay but I won't be going back.
The pistachio cheesecake was the best dessert I've EVER put in my mouth. It was absolutely mouth watering. I still think about it to this day. But when I returned to laspada I had the unfortunate news to find out it was discontinued. All the desserts are amazing. I just really miss the cheesecake.
I am very impressed with the dessert. It was absolutely excellent!!!! I would definitely go back just for the Ferraro rocher dessert, so creative. Just wow to the women who made them.
Although we waited quite a while to dine here, it was well worth it. We shared one order of vitello tonnato & one of osso bucco; both were delicious & ample. We each had a dessert-also yummy. Service was excellent, & it was fun to chat with chef Steve. La Spada is first rate.
La Spada is an absolute gem in Montreal! From the moment I walked in, the warm & inviting ambiance set the tone for a fantastic dining experience. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, & genuinely passionate about the menu, offering great recommendations tailored to my preferences. The food? Simply outstanding. Every dish was a perfect balance of flavor, presentation, & authenticity. The fresh, house-made pasta was the highlight-cooked to perfection with rich, flavorful sauces that transported me straight to Italy. Their wine selection was equally impressive, with options that paired beautifully with every course. What truly sets La Spada apart is the attention to detail. From the quality of the ingredients to the beautifully plated desserts, everything exudes care & excellence. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging in a great meal, La Spada is the place to go. I can't wait to return & explore more of their menu. Highly recommend!
I have been to Laspada twice now & the food has always been on point. My favourites so far are the generous fritto misto, the smokey rapini, the creamy tagliatelle con funghi & the airy foccacia. I also really recommend not skipping out on their original changing desserts. Overall, the food, the curated decor & the attentive staff make Laspada an "incontournable" establishment if you're in a mood for italian cuisine.
Cela a vraiment gâcher notre expérience.
Revoyez votre approche client.
If you're looking for an authentic Italian dining experience that feels like a warm embrace, La Spada is a must-visit. The menu is a delightful homage to traditional Italian cuisine. The service at La Spada was impeccable. Our server was attentive & knowledgeable, offering great wine pairings without being intrusive. To top off our meal, we couldn't resist dessert. Just Awesome! The vibe could not be better, with great Italian hits playing all night long. Overall, La Spada delivers a fantastic dining experience that excites the palate & warms the heart. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a cozy night out, this gem is sure to leave you with a smile & a satisfied appetite. Can't wait to return!
TLDR - don't leave your umbrella unattended but great food, generous portions & not so great hostess. We booked reservations for this restaurant a month in advance & were really looking forward to eating delicious food. For entrees, we got the suppli, focaccia, tortellini brodo & fried calamari. The tomato sauce tasted amazing. Portions were very generous too. For the main dishes, we had the beef ragu & ravioli. These dishes were all easy to share between a party of four. We finished the dinner with a strawberry shortcake which was light & sweet. We did have to remind our waiter about the dessert a couple times though. What soured the overall experience at the end was the interactions we had between the waiter & hostess - one of the waiters had offered to put my umbrella at the front entrance on a coat hanger. As we were leaving, I couldn't find my umbrella anywhere. We asked the hostess about it & she looked at us dumbfounded & asked our waiter where the umbrella was. They had a small back & forth & proceeded to ignore us. The hostess continued sitting people down & answering the phone while we stood at the front entrance for over ten minutes, waiting for an answer. We ended up asking help from another server & the hostess came back to us saying "what do you want me to do? just send us the bill". There was no apology or compensation offered whatsoever. We found the hostess to be very rude to us & left disappointed with how our night ended.
My second visit to La Spada, definetly not my last! The vibe, food & service is spot on. Don't skip on dessert🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼
We went to La Spada for my daughter's birthday-she's a big fan of Italian cuisine. I didn't have any particular expectations going in, but we had an amazing experience. The food was outstanding-the best pasta I've ever had, especially the squash ravioli with sage butter, which was even better than in Italy! The Bresaola, octopus, braised beef pappardelle, Focaccia, & dessert were all divine. One of the owners, Scott, even took the time to come & greet us. The service was impeccable yet unpretentious, & the atmosphere was fantastic, even on a rainy Tuesday night. I highly recommend it! We didn't get to try the tortellini in broth, so we'll definitely have to go back. ;)
