Since 1999, the restaurant LA PRUNELLE is a bring your wine that imposes itself on the popular Duluth in the heart of Plateau Mont-Royal. The chef conveys her passion in each of her dishes, working with products of Quebec dotted with Mediterranean accents. Respecting both the producers of the province and seasonal changes, the menu leads us into an adventure filled with happy detours. One feels immediately at home in this lively and friendly restaurant, overseen by Annie the co-owner and her team. The place is a beautiful and charming space, with large windows that open completely in the summer. One thing is certain, LA PRUNELLE is a very good value for money and is surely one of the finest dining experiences on the Plateau Mont-Royal.
Reviews describe La Prunelle as a warm, intimate French spot in the Plateau with excellent service and consistently delicious dishes. The menu features tartare de boeuf, magret de canard, ris de veau, octopus, and creme brulee, with many noting refined technique, appealing presentation and thoughtful flavor combinations. The atmosphere is cozy and charming, with soft lighting, a lively street view and a pleasant terrace in summer. Bring your own wine is a popular feature, offering good value for both date nights and small gatherings. Some critics note occasional drawbacks such as fries or certain dishes being too salty, or service slowing a bit when the restaurant is busy, and the space can get loud. Service is repeatedly praised as impeccable, attentive, and professional, with staff making guests feel cared for. Repeat visits are common, with guests praising consistency, warmth and quality ingredients. Overall, La Prunelle is seen as a standout neighborhood gem for classic, well executed French cuisine in Montreal, delivering memorable evenings and a welcoming atmosphere.
I've been coming to La Prunelle since it opened, but it's latest incarnation is too stripped-down. I miss the prix fixe table d'hôte, the daily menu is good but very limited now. I love this place & will continue to visit in the hope the kitchen will return to serving game & other Quebec specialties like the various ways the presented their foie gras. That said, I enjoyed the sweetbreads last night, though I thought they were priced too high. There is always a good atmosphere & the staff is 100% fantastic. I hope to come back again soon to find some venison & rabbit on the menu again!
Bel accueil
Apportez votre vin
We arrived at 6:40 (for a family reunion - reservation was at 6:45) & the staff was totally overwhelmed - asking us for waiting 5 to 10 minutes. They clearly had an issue with their reservations. They did'nt propose to wait at the bar or appologized - but just let us in the corridor. They were installing 3 poor tables (2 rounds, 1 squarred) at the entry, asking a lot of people to moove their sit/tables...After we asked what's happening, they told us they made a mistake BUT it was the fault of their system, then my fault because the number I gave was wrong ( we checked together &...not LOL). & then he recognize their mistake : they kept the reservation in the terrace even if it was raining...& tried to put everyone inside. BAD IDEA
We finally went to have a glass somewhere else before they texted me with their own cell 30 min later telling the table is ready...
We understand the situation, & we can understand sometimes human error happens & it's OK. But:
- Dont blame me because my cell number was the right one
- Next time (if there is one) you could say "sorry we made a mistake but we will take care of you", or may offer a dring while we were waiting.
- & last but not least : DO NOT TAKE RESERVATION FOR THE TERRACE because you'll have the same issue everytime it will raining.
The guy offers us some oysters when we came back, to be 100% honest & fair. That was appreciated.
Wow!! Nourriture excellente, présentation des plats, excellents
& le personnel, incroyablement gentil, accueillant & toujours présent pour nous.
Félicitations à tous!
A great place for a romantic dinner but also great for groups of friends. The setting is beautiful & the staff is very professional & friendly. It's one of the eateries we return to again & again & we are never disappointed.
