La Prunelle emphasizes a market-driven approach to French cuisine that highlights the technical precision required for high-quality preparation. The menu centers on raw meat delicacies, featuring a diverse selection of tartares that serve as the focal point of the culinary program. Ingredients undergo minimal processing to preserve their natural flavor profiles while maintaining the core characteristics of traditional regional cooking. The kitchen operations prioritize consistency through a rotating roster of seasonal offerings derived from available local produce. Each composition balances textural contrasts against bold seasoning choices, ensuring every plate delivers a direct expression of the primary component. This commitment to focused preparation techniques results in a streamlined experience that avoids unnecessary complexity while maintaining rigorous standards for freshness and ingredient integrity across the entire menu.
La Prunelle is widely regarded as a neighborhood gem in the Plateau, cherished for its consistent quality and welcoming atmosphere. Guests frequently praise the classic French cuisine, highlighting standout dishes like the duck breast, beef tartare, and sweetbreads. The bring your own wine concept is a major draw, allowing diners to enjoy fine food paired with their own favorite beverages in a chic, cozy, and vibrant setting. Many reviewers point to the attentive and professional service as a key element of their positive experiences, often noting the beautiful ambiance created by the large windows that open onto the lively street. While there are occasional comments regarding portion sizes and pricing, the overall consensus is that the restaurant offers a memorable and delightful dining experience that encourages frequent returns.
We went in a large group, we waited some time as the table wasn't ready, not a big deal since we're a considerable number, we took the group menu & it was extremely disappointing: the starter: the salmon tartare was plain, tasteless & it did not feel fresh, the main dish that we took was the steak with fries & OMG literally it was two small pieces of steak & full of oily & burn fries...... Horrible! To top it all off, the dessert: the cheesecake seemed to have a liter of sugar in it as it was too sweet & cloying, not the best & we couldn't finish it. The service was average, nothing extraordinary & the music is a little loud to be able to talk on a large table. What a disappointing experience, it was the most stolen $200 in the world, yes it is a plus to be able to bring your own wine, but the food is so tasteless I would never go back.
Food was delicious although the soup was not warm enough. Unfortunately there was an error in our order & we were given the wrong main. Sweetbreads were spot on. Waitstaff was very knowledgeable & friendly. Service was a little slow probably because the restaurant was full. Seating by the windows have always been cold in the winter.
On doit remplir nous-mêmes nos verres d'eau.
Pretty place, nice presentation, friendly efficient service, good playlist, BYOW is a big plus as well. Unfortunately the food was pretty hit or miss. The octopus was delicious but tough. The bread was charred. My friend enjoyed her tomato soup. The duck tasted great but once again kinda tougher than it should be. The gnudi was pretty disappointing, it was basically a tomato based dip which overpowered everything in it, needless to say my friend didn't enjoy it. I liked the squash cake, it was the right amount of sweetness, the addition of sprinkled salt was pretty unnecessary though.
Beau petit restaurant chaleureux avec apportez votre vin. La cuisine était parfait ainsi que je service. Seul hic est que le menu n'est pas super varié & que cette soirée là le magret de canard n'était pas disponible. Le steak par contre était parfait !
Went on New Year's Eve & there was a set menu. I requested vegetarian & all the courses were delicious! Very creative & tasty vegetarian options. The service was great, we really enjoyed it! & as it's BYOW we were able to bring our favourites! A great start to 2025! Thank you!
