At la Khaїma (nomad tent), at 142 Fairmount in Mile End, we enter into a nomadic world, a journey through colors, flavors and sensations. Once inside, African music accompanied by a rich fragrance emanating from the kitchen complete the multi-sensory experience that transports you to the Sahara. Couples can enjoy an intimate setting while large groups benefit from Moroccan salon comfort, eating from a long, low table.
The founder, of Mauritanian origin, greets guests and his joie-de-vivre warms the atmosphere. The cuisine is African with a nomad touch. Dishes are prepared with local products following the “Slow Food” concept, creating uniquely spiced tajines that offer an unparalleled taste experience. In accordance with the tradition of the desert, guests share large platters tasting all the flavors on offer, with enough to satisfy even the most demanding of appetites.
Come discover La Khaima’s unique refreshing drink made from the hibiscus flower and their mint tea. These marvelous drinks, in addition to mezzes are available by day at Khaїma cafe, 148 Fairmount. It is a meeting place where you can enjoy comedy nights, music and film screenings. Follow us on Facebook to discover upcoming events.
La Khaïma Cuisine Nomade offers an immersive North African dining experience with a warm, intimate atmosphere, traditional decor, and generous portions meant for sharing. Guests describe attentive, friendly service from a welcoming owner and his team who treat diners like family and check in to ensure satisfaction, while the kitchen delivers authentic dishes such as lentil soup, a large couscous platter with chicken and beef with dates, olives, and vegetables, and a satisfying vegetarian option, all complemented by mint tea and hibiscus juice. The setting is cozy with cushions and low seating that add to the homey vibe, and there is a bring your own wine option that many appreciate. While some note a fixed menu, the overall experience is praised for warmth, hospitality, and bold flavors that transport diners to North Africa.
Very charming restaurant with a very tasty set menu & a cozy atmosphere. Some of the best hummus I've ever had, & very tasty sweet beef as well. The staff were very kind of sauced us a second serving of mint tea
Large capacity, beautifully decorated restaurant. We ordered the mixed set menu to share. Flavourful & generous portions. Vegetarian fare available. Surprisingly busy for a freezing Monday night.

I've gotta be honest, this place isn't what it's cracked up to be based on the reviews I read. It looks much more dingy in person, & it's cold inside. You're required to take your shoes off, & the salle where people eat isn't properly heated. They have a single fan heater that gets passed around, & honestly, they should have several. At least it exists, but who wants to be cold while eating a meal?
Another issue: the food was decent, but you don't really have a choice. It's 40 CAD per person for one fixed menu, with the main course being couscous. The couscous itself was fine, neither bad nor great, but that could just come down to personal preference.
When we arrived, no one greeted us for about five minutes, & it wasn't even busy at the time.
Overall, the experience felt like eating in a tent, if that tent were a dimly lit, somewhat grimy space. Not exactly, but that was the vibe. Every time someone opened the door, it got colder & colder.
Such a wholesome experience! Love getting to try different culinary cultures in Montreal. The staff were so sweet & calm. The food DELICIOUS. $40 per person? A steal 💫 definitely coming back!
Food at this place was incredible, but we were told at the beginning of the meal that the meal set would be $40.
At the end of the meal, we were charged $50 when I asked why, I was told it was taxes. When my friend asked in Arabic, he was told it was for the hummus & cake we had.
We were never told or mentioned to us that there would be a price increase for any reason. That change & dishonestsy made me quite upset, & for that reason, despite an awesome meal, I will not be returning.
A great place to check out if you want a unique dining experience! The atmosphere was incredible & made you feel like you were abroad, the service was great as the people were very nice, & the food was incredible. Soup, large couscous blend enough for two, & a Moroccan mint tea at the end. I suggest going here if you'd like to try something new in the city!

Run, don't walk to this lovely gem which helps transport you to warm locales one delicious bite at a time. Thank you for always welcoming us with a smile & taking such good care of us !
Delicious! They even had gluten free couscous for my spouse & mother in law! The ambiance was fantastic & cozy, though people with mobility restrictions might have a tough time. Service was friendly & encouraged us to slow down & enjoy the meal & moment with one another. Mint tea at the end was a highlight!
C'était délicieux les quantités sont généreuse tout goûtait bon sans exception! L'ambiance, le décor tout est vraiment agréable. Ce monsieur est super gentil il est très accueillant & a le coeur sur la main! Je le recommande fortement! Merci encore
I finally visited here after numerous suggestions from my friends. The three of us ordered what he recommended, which seemed like a course meal: soup in the beginning, an appetizer, & 2 big meat couscous platters + 1 veggie couscous. The portions were very generous; personally, I liked the chicken couscous more than the other two. Very flavourful, & it was an eye-opening moment trying my first North African food. The owner was kind enough to explain the menu & offer suggestions. This is a great spot if you want to be bold & try a new type of cuisine that's hard to find.
