At la Khaїma (nomad tent), at 142 Fairmount in Mile End, we enter into a nomadic world, a journey through colors, flavors and sensations. Once inside, African music accompanied by a rich fragrance emanating from the kitchen complete the multi-sensory experience that transports you to the Sahara. Couples can enjoy an intimate setting while large groups benefit from Moroccan salon comfort, eating from a long, low table.
The founder, of Mauritanian origin, greets guests and his joie-de-vivre warms the atmosphere. The cuisine is African with a nomad touch. Dishes are prepared with local products following the “Slow Food” concept, creating uniquely spiced tajines that offer an unparalleled taste experience. In accordance with the tradition of the desert, guests share large platters tasting all the flavors on offer, with enough to satisfy even the most demanding of appetites.
Come discover La Khaima’s unique refreshing drink made from the hibiscus flower and their mint tea. These marvelous drinks, in addition to mezzes are available by day at Khaїma cafe, 148 Fairmount. It is a meeting place where you can enjoy comedy nights, music and film screenings. Follow us on Facebook to discover upcoming events.
La Khaïma Cuisine Nomade offers an immersive North African and Mauritanian dining experience with generous shared couscous dishes, lentil soup, and meat stews, complemented by mint tea and hibiscus juice, all prepared with care in a warm cocooning setting that transports guests to another world. The chef and staff explain the menu with patience and make diners feel welcome, while the decor, music, and atmosphere enhance a distinctive authentic vibe. Portions are hearty, prices are fair, and the bring your own bottle option adds flexibility. Vegetarian and vegan options are available, and the overall experience blends home style cooking with generous hospitality that makes guests want to return.

Couscous !!!! Apportez votre vin. Le the...pas tres typique. Tres bon service !
The staff in this restaurant were amazingly accommodating & friendly. Food portions are seemingly endless (we had to leave food on the plates & they STILL offered more). The chef treated us to an amazing tea from his home town in Africa & the atmosphere was perfect. Definitely a place worth visiting in large groups.
Had my family hear for a post- wedding celebration. They served more food than we could eat & even offered more without extra charge of whatever we wanted.
Atmosphere was beautiful & the food was authentic, complete with Hibiscus tea from the chef's home town.
Décor accueillant & intimiste. Le chef va à votre rencontre & il très fier de vous faire connaître sa cuisine. Plats savoureux à partager, ce qui incite aux rapprochements. apportez votre vin, ce qui incite au relâchement.

The chef comes to see you in person & explains his daily menu. He is super nice. The food is just amazing & the portions are very generous you will not leave hungry. the tables are almost ground level & you remove your shoes to enter this very north african style deco. it can get a bit uncomfrotable to sit so low though for hours, but its a wonderful experience!
We were here with five of us. We were met at the table by the chef & seated in the lovely restaurant. There were I've of us, all vegetarians. We ordered the vegetarian cous cous for all five of us, & were told we would get some appetizers. We got one small bowl of hummus. The table next to us with two people got the same amount of appetizers. When our meal arrived, a bit cold, we noticed that it took as the same size as the platters being served to tables of two. At one point I asked if we could have another appetizer & the server told us they were out of it, but kept bringing it to other tables. It seemed a bit odd. They were very busy, the service was chaotic & the servings were either way too much for two people or not enough for five. I think it is a nice atmosphere & people enjoyed themselves. We did, but found it to be over-rated & subpar.
