La Catrina offers a warm, vibrant vibe with generous portions and standout items like tableside guacamole and flavorful tacos, plus tasty cocktails and margaritas; guests consistently praise friendly service and a lively atmosphere that works well for groups, family dinners, or a relaxed patio experience, making it a memorable stop in the Old Port.
Très bon restaurant ! Ambiance vraiment superbe !
We stumbled upon La Catrina when visiting Montreal 5 years ago & have been talking about it ever since. For our family trip this year, we booked a reservation to be sure we could get a table. The service was friendly & fantastic, & every single thing from the guacamole to the chips, drinks, & tacos were amazing. This is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant I've been to anywhere & will make a point to visit every time I'm in Montreal.
Love this place! The servers are always so friendly & welcoming. Their suggestions for food or drinks have never disappointed us. The grilled octopus is amazing, highly recommend it.
Lovely place, great service, but very long wait to receive our food (over 1h for tacos & octopus). Very tasty though. Drink were ok, need to refine their margaritas, it's not made with real lime juice.... not consistent either & expensive, but I guess that's what you paid in the old port.
We were lucky to find this awesome place in the old Port for dinner & drinks. First off, the cocktails are excellent. They have a good choice of sweet or sour options & both the ones we tried are elevated even with foam! The starter we had was incredible & unique. Highly recommend trying out the Esquites! For our mains we had the taco tasting platter, which included 5 different tacos. This was perfect for us as my partner does not eat meat. I had the beef brisket & pulled pork - both were fantastic. I preferred the beef more as it was so tender & tasty. We finished off with the classic churros. Perfect end to a fabulous meal. These were fresh, warm & soft on the inside. The caramel sauce wasn't too sweet, which is perfect for me. Overall this place is so. So good. They prepare fresh guac at your table & the ambience in the restaurant is excellent for a date night. Highly recommended!
Our waitress / bartender downstairs at NYE was such a sweetheart. Amazing service, her drinks were delicious & made in a blink of an eye! Thank you for a beautiful night!

I was really unimpressed with this place. The guacamole was good, but I was disappointed by the tacos. The al pastor was basic - can't fault that one. The brisket tacos were waaaay too salty, & were sitting in a pool of their own juices. The tortillas were mushy when they came to the table because of it. I get that we're in the old port, but their prices were absurd. Spending almost $100 for two people to have 4 small tacos each, share a guacamole & have one drink? That's not okay.
Bravo!!! Service exceptionnel! Personel courtois & sympathique. Nourriture fraîche & succulente!! Beaucoup de choix. Drinks excellent. La musique est bonne. À découvrir !! Nous y retournerons assurément!
Went as a group for Christmas event. Service was very slow for drinks all night, their cocktails looked really good though. Food was tasty, but portions were small. Like... really small. The group menu is fixed price, with one beer & tips: 73$. Guac to share first, one small shrimp tostada (great flavour) & two tacos. The beef quesadilla was even smaller. Not sure where the hype is.
Belle trouvaille, au hasard de notre marche dans le Vieux-Montréal. Bon service, bonne bouffe, beaux décors, excellent service, bons drinks. Merci pour le bon moment en famille. J'ai tout aimé, même la vaisselle!
We arrived at night without an appointment, it was rainy but they we're able to set us a table for three outside. The food was great, the drinks were amazing, only the service was a little slow, probably because they were not expecting to have tables outside due to the rain. However I definitely will go back.
We made a same day reservation & got right in. It is located in the old port in a beautiful old building. The place is very small. When we came in, there was a table of probably 7 people being super loud & obnoxious. It’s not the restaurants fault, but that took away from the atmosphere.
I ordered a spicy mango “Catrina” margarita which was all spice & no alcohol.
My poblano soup, in addition to being beautiful to look at was creamy & delicious. My fish tacos were fresh & flavorful, but my plate was chipped. Not a big deal, but I wouldn’t serve food to a gust in a chipped plate.
Overall, it’s a good spot for a snack & a drink, before you head to dinner.
Servers were nice, we (5) ate outside & there were 2 ppl serving. Asked for the guacamole at the table came 45 min later no chips had to ask for the chips. Drinks were good. Ordered food but when we finished the guacamole they asked if we wanted dessert without having gotten our meal. 10 min later we were served. Nothing inspiring, ordered the brisket tacos & they lacked flavour. Had to ask for salsa. The fried chicken tacos was over done & that too lacked flavour. Not sure how they got 4+ stars for the price they charge. Good ambiance & drinks but that was it.

Long wait. It took some time after ordering to find out that something is not available. We asked not spicy drink but got the spicy one. Not attentive to requests of the guests & small portions. Al pastor is not even similar to Mexican Al pastor.
