About us

THE HISTORY OF LA BINERIE MONT-ROYAL June 11th, 1938 Joachim Lussier is the founder and first owner of La Binerie MONT-ROYAL. Assisted by his brother Leo, he decided that the traditional Quebec cuisine and family spirit are the pillars of the establishment. During the first 60 years, several members of their families worked at the restaurant and left their contributions and memories with the customers. La Binerie Mont-Royal has become a culinary institution in Quebec, which is proud to offer authentic Quebec cuisine to all those who want to remember the good experiences of family meals. Memorable experiences are created for all new customers! July 13th, 1966 Leo buys his brother's restaurant. In October of the same year, he hired a "new kid", a waiter, Fernand Groulx rapidly integrating with the Lussier family. In October 1969, Fernand weds Claire, Leo’s eldest daughter. So when Leo decided to retire - he knew that there was someone to take his place! August 4th, 1978, after 40 years of service, Leo sells La Binerie Mont-Royal to Fernand and Claire. The two work together for over 30 years! March 10th, 2001, the secret recipes of La Binerie Mont-Royal are given to a trio of restaurants in Quebec which brought some physical improvements to the restaurant. In March 2002, the torch of Quebec cuisine was purchased and continued by Suzanne Touchette and Bernard Deschamps. November 17th, 2005, Jocelyne and Philippe Brunet became the happy recipients of La Binerie Mont-Royal. They were looking for several months for a restaurant that offered food and special experience, which also had development potential. In hopes of making a cozier restaurant, the bar and the tables are now solid maple and walls are covered with pictures of our family traditions from the great Quebec illustrator Joseph-Edmond Massicotte. Several improvements in the menu were made and continue to be, so that the dishes offered can live up to the required quality, while respecting the authenticity of the Quebec cuisine! They like to offer their loyal customers and the many visitors from other countries, the pleasure of enjoying traditional dishes, making sure they leave with a good memory! Le propriétaire se plaint dans les médias que les cyclistes sont la cause de la baisse de son chiffre d'affaire. Pour notre part, nous ne fréquentons plus ce restaurant parce que l'ambiance est froide, l'accueil est mauvais, la nourriture est froide, les prix sont trop élevés pour ce que c'est & le propriétaire est désagréable. Faudrait peut-être revoir vos pratiques avant de taper sur le REV.

Nous y sommes allé pour déjeuner (grouoe de 4). Il n'y a qu'une seule table pour 4 dans le resto, j'ai toujours dit que la Binerie est une institution, ma première visite depuis le déménagement, déception pour moi, les "toast" sont grillés sur la grille ça goutait les toast qu'on se faisait en camping, SUGGESTION : acherez un grille pain svp, le pain était mou résultat désastreux, bacon : gros bacon gras, fève au lard très décevante, creton pas terrible, café 2/10, faut vraiment repensé votte cuisine sinon ce resto va fermer ses portes d'ici 2 ans, je manges des fèves au lard Libbys chez moi & c'est pas mal meilleur, le café bas de gamme à déconseiller, moi j'engagerais un cuisinier top gun pour revoir les recettes & méthodes, sinon....

J'ai adoré mon premier breakfast québécois ! C'était super bon, l'assiette était copieuse j'avais le ventre plein toute la journée ! Notre serveur était un amour très gentil, à l'écoute & aux petits soins. Les tarifs sont très raisonnables également, je recommande fortement & je n'hésiterai pas à en parler autour de moi + si je reviens à Montréal je repasserai à coup sûr !

C'est mon plaisir coupable, depuis que je suis tout jeune... J'y allais avec mon grand-père régulièrement, & j'ai même une photo avec Maurice Richard qui était un habitué de l'endroit. La cuisine traditionnelle, québécoise à son meilleur. Les pâtés, les fèves au lard & le boudin sont délicieux!

My husband & I visited La Binerie on our trip to Montreal. We chose it because of the good reviews, & it didn't disappoint! It felt very "homey," & the owner was so lovely. We loved the breakfasts we ordered (two eggs plate, & a piece of tortiere) & the coffee that was included was great as well. Check this place out!!

Superbe expérience dans ce restaurant québécois à Montréal ! L'ambiance était conviviale & le jeune serveur, très gentil, m'a fait d'excellentes recommandations. 😊 Le pâté chinois était délicieux, la soupe réconfortante, & le pudding chômeur, un vrai délice !

Que dire... C'était excellent. Il y a bcp de québécois dans le restaurant avec nous, un excellent signe déjà. L'accueil est vraiment top, tout le monde est super gentil & serviable. Ambiance typiquement québécoise. Nous sommes venus pour un brunch c'était vraiment très bon & copieux. Finissez avec le classique des desserts, le pouding chômeur & vous aurez fait un vrai repas québécois.

La Binerie is a magical place to my wife & I. It's beautiful to see how simple & humbling the food is, yet the food is some of the best diner food we've ever had. We found this place, by chance, on our first trip together (nearly 7 years ago) & we were gracefully hosted by the owners of La Binerie. On our honeymoon, we returned to enjoy the food & the good spirits again... it was so refreshing to see that there is this treasure still makes Montreal one of the best places to find love in the world!
