About us

THE HISTORY OF LA BINERIE MONT-ROYAL June 11th, 1938 Joachim Lussier is the founder and first owner of La Binerie MONT-ROYAL. Assisted by his brother Leo, he decided that the traditional Quebec cuisine and family spirit are the pillars of the establishment. During the first 60 years, several members of their families worked at the restaurant and left their contributions and memories with the customers. La Binerie Mont-Royal has become a culinary institution in Quebec, which is proud to offer authentic Quebec cuisine to all those who want to remember the good experiences of family meals. Memorable experiences are created for all new customers! July 13th, 1966 Leo buys his brother's restaurant. In October of the same year, he hired a "new kid", a waiter, Fernand Groulx rapidly integrating with the Lussier family. In October 1969, Fernand weds Claire, Leo’s eldest daughter. So when Leo decided to retire - he knew that there was someone to take his place! August 4th, 1978, after 40 years of service, Leo sells La Binerie Mont-Royal to Fernand and Claire. The two work together for over 30 years! March 10th, 2001, the secret recipes of La Binerie Mont-Royal are given to a trio of restaurants in Quebec which brought some physical improvements to the restaurant. In March 2002, the torch of Quebec cuisine was purchased and continued by Suzanne Touchette and Bernard Deschamps. November 17th, 2005, Jocelyne and Philippe Brunet became the happy recipients of La Binerie Mont-Royal. They were looking for several months for a restaurant that offered food and special experience, which also had development potential. In hopes of making a cozier restaurant, the bar and the tables are now solid maple and walls are covered with pictures of our family traditions from the great Quebec illustrator Joseph-Edmond Massicotte. Several improvements in the menu were made and continue to be, so that the dishes offered can live up to the required quality, while respecting the authenticity of the Quebec cuisine! They like to offer their loyal customers and the many visitors from other countries, the pleasure of enjoying traditional dishes, making sure they leave with a good memory! When they were on Avenue Mont-Royal, they had the best breakfast & service in town. Now that they moved to St-Denis, they went'Plateau Attitude'. I stayed there 15 minutes trying to order food, completely ignored by staff, & the place wasn't packed at all...I gave up & left. Never again,

Authentic, hearty, & delicious: this is how I'd describe the breakfast I ate here. The atmosphere was warm & vibrant, & the folks running it are very welcoming & helpful. I left this place feeling fat & happy!

We really enjoyed our breakfast. Dining here you experience a bit of Montreal history & enjoy traditional Quebecois cuisine. Home made goodness. Not fancy, just tasty honest generous food. The beans are a must!

This place has been on our list since we visited Montreal last year, but did not make it. Made a point to get there this year & kicked ourselves for not getting there sooner.
Went for breakfast & everything was absolutely perfect. To quote a great internet meme'I'm thinking about those beans.'
Will definitely be returning as soon as possible. Don't miss it!

A quaint diner with a pleasant interior for a simple breakfast or brunch. All dishes come with coffee or tea with refills, as well as the house's special beans, which were actually super good, to my surprise (I'm not really one to get excited about beans, but I look forward to having these again in the future). Prices were reasonable & all staff were friendly. Only thing keeping it from 5 stars was my small disappointment at not having any filling or toppings in the crepes I ordered, they were just plain pieces of dough.

A real gem - easily the best beans & cretons I've ever had! The food was delicious, generously portioned, & very fairly priced; coffee was free, service was wonderful, & the restaurant itself was very cozy. I ended up taking much of my breakfast home with me & I had ordered one of the smaller plates. We went for brunch, but we'll definitely be back some evening to try their Quebec history themed cocktails! Such a cute idea & I have no doubt they'd be delicious.

J'ai adoré mon premier breakfast québécois ! C'était super bon, l'assiette était copieuse j'avais le ventre plein toute la journée ! Notre serveur était un amour très gentil, à l'écoute & aux petits soins. Les tarifs sont très raisonnables également, je recommande fortement & je n'hésiterai pas à en parler autour de moi + si je reviens à Montréal je repasserai à coup sûr !

My husband & I visited La Binerie on our trip to Montreal. We chose it because of the good reviews, & it didn't disappoint! It felt very "homey," & the owner was so lovely. We loved the breakfasts we ordered (two eggs plate, & a piece of tortiere) & the coffee that was included was great as well. Check this place out!!

Don't miss this place in Montréal! So good we went twice! Food was amazing, everything was hot & fresh. Really nice retro decor, breakfast bar stools & old photographs. The beans were really tasty & so was the homemade creton. Fantastic service from the two older blokes, so friendly & welcoming. I've been having cravings for another La Binerie breakfast ever since we've been home!
