I ordered a coffee that was ok & a croissant that was fairly good. However the customer service was quite unwelcoming & I won't be going back. When I entered the store I stood in front of the pastry counter for several minutes while two employees (three feet away) ignored me & discussed how to put pastries in display baskets. Finally a third employee asked if I had ordered. Then, I had to request coffee at the cash register because according to a sign, you aren't allowed to order it at the pastry counter. I was told to wait for my coffee by the exit in a freezing storage room, although the store was almost empty. Then when I recieved my coffee no milk was available, it turns out you have to ask the employee when you ordered, but they never informed me. Left feeling that I had certainly inconvenienced all the staff by being a customer.

The brunch menu is a highlight, offering hearty, thoughtfully prepared dishes that rotate to showcase fresh, local ingredients. It's the kind of meal that feels both indulgent & satisfying, perfect for lazy weekends. & yes, you absolutely cannot miss their quiche-its silky filling & golden, buttery crust are the stuff of legends. Even their pizzas, with their perfectly chewy crust & creative flair, are a delightful surprise. What truly sets La Bête à Pain apart is its dedication to community & quality. The shelves are lined with locally sourced wines, ciders, & artisanal products, making it easy to support Quebec producers while treating yourself. The staff radiates warmth & professionalism, always ready with a smile or recommendation, even during the busiest rushes. Accessibility is also thoughtfully addressed, with a wheelchair-friendly entrance & spacious layout ensuring everyone feels welcome. While the space can feel cozy, especially near the entrance, the lively atmosphere & inviting energy make it part of the charm. Minor quirks, like playful twists on classic pastries, only add character to an otherwise flawless experience. In a city brimming with bakeries, La Bête à Pain Ahuntsic stands out as a place where passion & craftsmanship meet everyday comfort. Love this bakery for the bread, pastries, ham sandwiches & ready made meals. The service has always been friendly & efficient. Desserts & Pastries: my favourite is the coffee eclair. The tiramisu my second favourite. I really enjoy their danishes & their chocolate-almond croissant. I love their ham sandwich. The quality & flavour of the ham is excellent. It's a simple sandwich but the amazing quality ingredients make it so delicious. Breads: my favourites are the baguette apéro, blue cheese & nut bread (offered on weekends only I believe) & the focaccia. Their other loaves are also great but these ones are unique & delicious. Also a great place to get ready made soup, salads & mains. They have a great variety of options. That & all kinds of locally made products to discover: jams, wine, mocktails...
Excellent choice of breads, especially on Saturdays. Unfortunately, although the pastries looked scrumptious, they disappointed. The viennoisseries were very good. Where this place fell short was the overall interior. It is not very welcoming where very tall shelves packed with bottles receive you like a brick wall. Thankfully, once reaching the bread display, the warm welcome justified our visit. With no competition in the area, this is still a top place to come to.
They offer a good variety of breads & pastries. Their almond chocolatine is a delight, highly recommended. At least in fall & winter, they did not have a dine in option. Also their sandwich selection was limited. It would be a game changer if they added more options.
