Then wait another 10min for someone to put a croissant on a plate to bring to you. I could also see it waiting on the counter for 10min before I went to ask. The girl behind the counter can literally plate it for you as you request it. What a bad system. Employees look unhappy & stressed.View more
Reviewing the croissant & the atmosphere only:
Croissant lacked cooking time in my opinion. It was barely browned on top & lacked the crunchy I'd be looking for. Tasted good otherwise but texture was not there for me.
Very good atmosphere to get coffee/brunch with an old friend to catch up.
I would come back to try their sandwiches & other pastries.View more
The heyday of Bete a Pain was definitely pre-COVID, but even then, while it had all the elements of a truly top notch bakery, somehow those elements never came together. The proof is in their better-than-average pastries & better-than-average breads that were just that - better than average, despite the amount of self-publicized expertise & crafts that went into their products. Bete a Pain is just that - a better than average bakery.View more
They're pretty busy on the weekends, so there's a little bit of a line to order (for pastries & food/drinks) & a wait. I got a cappuccino, canelé, & the chocolate chip cookie.
Cappuccino: It was good, but nothing really special.
Canelé: It had amazing flavor, the rum really comes through. The inside was custardy & spongy, the tops & bottoms were nice & crunchy, but the sides were a bit chewy & gummy. Overall, a really good canelé.
Cookie: Also really good, filled with chocolate chips but not overly so. It had a really nice butter flavor & was crispy outside, but it's a drier cookie than I'd prefer.
I'd come back for their pastries, but wouldn't go out of my way just for their coffee.View more
I like their pastries & their breakfasts.
Not a great chai latte!View more
Delicious homemade apple caramel syrup. Delicious pastries, but not much space to sit. Price very reasonable. 35$ for 3 pastries, 2 flavored lattes & 15% tip. Paris brest: 9.3/10, a bit too rich & sweet but so delicious. Almond croissant: 8.2/10, buttery, flakey & not too sweet. Very good, but perhaps missing a tad something or maybe I just like them a little sweeter. Would definitely recommend. Cinnamon roll: 6.8/10. It's alright, it is beautiful & big, but not enough moisture to my taste. If you like a drier not too sweet roll, this might be great for you. Next time I need to try the grilled cheese, the tiramisu, the croissant & chocolate roll.View more
Only option in the neighbourhood. Bread is ok, but goes stale within 24 hours. If you're dining in, it tastes great. Pastries are average at best, try Chez Poitier instead. Takes a long time to checkout & pay for your food.View more
I don't know about their bread, but their pastries are not worth the price.View more
A truly don't understand how this is anything more than the most overrated bakery in the city. I give 2 starts instead of 1 because the service was excellent Pastries were bland & TINY Coffee tastes like mud Prices are 50% higher than the average in the city It's in Griffintown which is the most overrated part of the city anyway ... terribly dissappointedView more
Amazing spot for a quick breakfast bite. Their selection of pastries & bread is excellent, & the taste & freshness are worth a trip to this place. Service was good, too. Lastly, their coffee also tasted fresh & well-made.View more
