I consider myself a sushi connaisseur & by all means not an expert but this restaurant was underwhelming. Fish had no flavor, presentation was bland & not a big variety of fish.Voir plus

Came all the way from the airport between connections just to try it & it was very disappointing 😭💔
I hate typing this because the customer service is very nice & the place is okey but it's hard for me not to write a review about it…
I order only one dish because the restaurant smell was not very pleasant when I arrived, but still wanted to try it after all.
I tried the maguro bowl & I thought, yk is $42 before tax I imagined it was going to be a nice portion…WRONG, just a little bowl on it.
& that's okey! But the worst part is that the fish was very irony (like you can taste the iron) flavour, the rice was soaked in soya sauce & it kills the nice fat of the tuna😭. I wasn't expecting a big size because I understand fat tuna is expensive but at least make it tasty🥺.
I left very upset & had to pay 50$ for just a bowl I forced myself to eat.
There's nothing wrong with the restaurant, I just wish they made a expensive fish a delicate & fresh meal…
The rice was very salty as well, I'm sorry for the review but it was very sad from my part not to enjoyed it.Voir plus

Very disappointed about it. We had high expectations because of its high rating on Google, but a $78 sashimi set, the most expensive sashimi set on the menu is so tiny portion that even for me, a New Yorker would find it unreasonably priced. The chirashi bowl, which was ordered by our neighbor desk & is only half of the price, has no significantly less quantity of fish. The marinated spotted prawn tastes good, but one shrimp is not as fresh as it should be. The only reasonably priced maybe the ramen. We eventually paired over $80 person with stomach half full.Voir plus

This restaurant has a casual but intimate vibe, with really excellent fish-forward dishes. Reservations are highly recommended, as it's in-demand & tiny - about 9 bar seats plus a few tables for small groups. The sole server accommodated folks without reservations as able, but those with reservations were given priority & generally had a less rushed experience. Service was attentive & efficient.Voir plus

Amazing place! The confit duck leg mazemen is simply incredible. The Chirashi is delicious & has lots of different types of fish. The food alone warrants 5 stars, & then on top of that the service is excellent, you never feel hurried, & the music is great. What a pleasant experience.Voir plus

One of the best Japanese restaurants I've had in quite a while, although the amazingly high quality of ingredients & cooking techniques (for all traditional Japanese, fusion, & entirely Western dishes) were beset by the rather small portion sizes. The stars of the show were both the chirashi & à la carte sashimi orders. Every slice was decently thick, at a suitable cool temperature, & was cleaned appropriately with not a single bone or fish scale in sight. The short-grain rice was perfectly executed, al dente & seasoned just right. Would highly recommend the chu-toro tuna belly, rich but delicate & melt-in-your-mouth. The sudachi lime, shiso leaf & shiso microgreens were a nice touch for the sashimi, & so were the crisp nori laver squares for the chirashi. The sea urchin & salmon roe mazemen (which I assume is part of a limited time-only special menu) was delightfully creamy, & while the sea urchin was not raw (& appeared to be either cooked or tinned), it paired surprisingly well with the springy alkaline noodles coated in a carbonara-esque sauce that was not too heavy. The confit duck (?) gizzards (also part of the special menu) were remarkably well-done. Tender but not overcooked, fully immersed with herby undertones, & the parmesan on top was balanced by a refreshing zing of lemon. The seasoning elevated the natural umami of the gizzards while not masking it entirely. I finished every single drop of the remaining emulsified sauces at the bottom of the plate. The waiter was very helpful & attentive, & made me feel at home. Service was understandably a bit slow as it was only one person servicing a fully-packed room, but the food arrived at the right temperature & at acceptable intervals.Voir plus

I was very excited to come here as they seemed to have a creative menu with rare ingredients such as hotaru ika. Unfortunately the night I dined there, they were not offering anything on the special menu... I ended up getting the maguro futomaki & cheese croquette with ikura at the suggestion of the server. The futomaki was pretty filling & had generous portions of aka & toro. It was good but I felt it was carried more by the freshness of the fish rather than the technique of the chef. I would have also liked for it to not come pre-seasoned with soy sauce & wasabi as I like to adjust those to my own personal preference. The croquette wasn't bad, but was leaning towards a salty profile because of the ikura. It felt more like eating mozzarella cheese sticks to be honest. At the price point, I was expecting to be wowed more. The restaurant was decked out in cool Showa-era decor but something that didn't make me feel too comfortable was how dark it was. I would have preferred dim lighting, but it seemed like the lights weren't even turned on! It gave the interior a really dark look, & not even in the nice moody way. From the outside, it didn't even look like the restaurant was open. Service could also be better. I know it was just one person manning the counter, but it felt like I only got his attention when I asked for it. Sitting at the bar counter alone, I was also expecting more engagement. I've been visiting as many mid/upper-tier Japanese restaurants in Montreal as I can & this one has disappointed me the most so far.Voir plus

This is a simple establishment focused on the food where the food has never disappointed. A creative Japanese menu with the highest fish quality. One person cooking, one person serving. The fried foods are perfect, the beer is as it should be--served in frosted glasses--& the sake list is of interest.Voir plus
