I recently visited Kava in Montreal & had an uncomfortable experience regarding tipping.
While I understand that tipping is customary, I felt pressured by the server to leave a specific percentage. After offering a tip, I was repeatedly asked to increase it & was told they would not receive the full amount otherwise. This made me feel uncomfortable & put on the spot, which affected my overall experience.
Tipping should remain at the discretion of the customer, & I did not appreciate being pressured or negotiated with about the amount.
The food was okay, but the atmosphere was also an issue. The music was extremely loud-loud enough to hurt your ears-& it felt more like a nightclub than a restaurant, making it difficult to enjoy the meal or have a conversation.
Overall, the experience was disappointing due to both the service approach & the environment.
This place deserves no more than three stars. The food was mediocre at best. The calamari was average, & the accompanying sauce felt completely out of place. The octopus, while interesting, was not necessarily so in a good way. The internal flavors, mainly from the roasted fennel & the creamy celery purée, clashed rather than complemented each other, creating a strange & unbalanced profile. The flank steak suffered from a terrible sauce that entirely ruined what could have been a solid dish.
Overall, it felt like a restaurant built primarily for the aesthetic. The dishes look impressive at first glance, but fail to deliver once you actually taste them. Given this, the prices are far too high for the quality delivered.
That said, the venue itself is very appealing. The décor is well thought out, & the atmosphere is cozy & relaxed. It is clear that significant effort went into the design. Yet, the restaurant was less than half full on a Friday night, which is telling. The DJ played good music, but the volume was excessive, we could barely hear each other speak.
Overall, nothing remarkable. I will not be returning.

Excellente expérience chez KAVA.
Service irréprochable & attentionné - mention spéciale à Abdel & à son équipe pour leur professionnalisme & leur gentillesse. Table impeccablement entretenue tout au long du repas, sans même avoir à le demander.
Cuisine remarquable : le tartare de bar, les keftas de boeuf, la pieuvre & les légumes grillés étaient tous absolument délicieux. Très belle carte des vins.
Ambiance élégante & vivante avec DJ & musiciens live les vendredis & samedis.
Une soirée parfaite. Nous reviendrons assurément.
This new restaurant opened in July. The restaurant was very pretty. The food was really quite good. The seabass tartare was delicious as was the beef tartare. The grilled calamari was good. For mains we had the lamb chops which were excellent as was the truffle penne pasta. Service was excellent. The only issue why we would not return to this place was due to the level of music which was so not conducive for a restaurant. It was almost impossible to have a conversation. Really too bad. Management will have to decide if they want to be a nightclub or restaurant.
Went to Kava for a Friday night dinner & the ambiance it's nice decor , food was ok nothing so special but service was not good wait long time for main course plus music bit loud & I did not like the crowd.
Amazing experience yesterday night at Kava! The food was outstanding & the music really good, perfect for a night out when you want a good atmosphere & dance! The only downside would be the quality of the service, really hard to have someone come & see us, but when they do however they are really nice. Food came out fast, so no problem there!

Place was amazing, perfect location, beautiful area, awesome people. Everyone was very friendly. Loved the ambiance & location, very good music. Food presentation is good, however must say didnt really taste the best, tried few. Not the best place if you want to enjoy the best food in town, but excellent place to visit for ambiance. Getting orders took a bit long I find, however all personnel is very friendly & does excellent job overall in my opinion. Definitely a recommend!
I went for a birthday & we had such a great time. The food was excellent & the vibes too. Very good ambiance, music & decors. They even have a violonist playing!
Super restaurant ! J'ai adoré leur brunch, la brioche perdue aux pêches est une tuerie. Il y a une belle ambiance , particulièrement le soir, où il y a un dj sur place & parfois des musiciens.
