It was okay, but I was quite disappointed. The tonkatsu was a bit overcooked & dry, the rice was straight out bad. Lettuce was fine, portion size quite large. The sauce had good flavour notes but I felt like it was a bit too acidic. All in all, it's acceptable but not the high quality I was hoping for to match the ones I had in Japan. EDIT: tried again, the pork was a bit better this time & the rice was decent. Not Japan quality, but miles better than anything else in Montreal. The'japanese sauce' remains way too acidic, tastes almost only like vinegar. Next time I'll try another sauce I guess.View more

If you're looking for a top-notch katsu place that's worth every penny, this is it - KATSUYA!!! From the moment you walk in, the service is welcoming & incredibly fast, without ever compromising on quality. The staff is friendly, attentive, & more than happy to answer any questions about the ingredients-full transparency, which is rare to find these days.

Now, the food-absolutely perfect every single time. The katsu is crispy, golden, & perfectly cooked, with a juicy & flavorful interior. Whether you go for the classic pork, chicken, or even a specialty option, every bite is a delight. The sides & sauces are just as impressive, elevating the meal to another level.

Consistency is key, & they nail it. Every visit feels like the first, with the same delicious flavors & high standards. If you're a katsu lover or even just looking for a great meal, this place is a must-visit. 5 stars, no hesitation!

PS: My go-to is either Rose Katsu (Fish) or Rose Udon (shrimp). You're welcome! ✌?😊View more

Second time here with friends, we had an amazing time. I took the supreme original pork katsu & there was 2 pieces so the price is quite fair for the quantity. The client service was really good ! They have unlimited refills of udon soup, salad & rice 😏 I took 4 refills of soup, one of salad & one of rice & they all came out really quickly !View more

Good quality price ratio. However, nothing really stands out. The taste is very basic & bland. A bit more salt would have made the pork even better. The Katsu were all very crispy & tender. Overall, good food but could & have had better.View more

Our pork katsu had good breading, but the meat inside for our order was a bit thin & not juicy. Quite generous portions. Small clean eatery, there was a bit of a wait time as tables were not cleared promptly. They were perhaps understaffed. Our order was taken but not registered, & another staff came by ~10 mins later to ask us to order (again). We asked for a salad refill & again it was forgotten until we asked a second time. Service/ manpower in this area could be improved, but I have to commend that the servers were always polite.View more

My partner & I ate here on Friday August 9th around 4PM. This is a small restaurant conveniently located steps away from the Guy Concordia/St Mathieu exit of the metro. It's close to the university & many other great asian restaurants. Decor is modern, clean. Recently renovated as it opened in June of 2024. I heard about it through social media, they have other chains throughout Canada & the videos I saw all featured beautifully presented, generous portions of fried pork, chicken, fish or cheese drizzles in sauces & curries. My experience was just as advsertised, & delicious! Since we dined early, the restaurant was pretty empty. We were seated right away, offered a jug of cold water & showed how to retrieve the menu. They do not serve a printed menu, you will need to scan a QR code at the table to open up a PDF menu. This is easily accesible on their website as well. The specialty is fried chicken, pork cutlets, fish or cheese deep fried in a light breading & coated with a curry or teriyaki, mayo style sauce. There are different types of curries & sauces to choose from, including carbonara which is an original idea. The dishes are served with a small soup, white rice & pickled slaw/vegetables. We ordered an appetizer of the "snow cheese balls" which are deep fried mozzarella balls covered in a sweet honey type powder. Our main meals were the chicken katsu with carbonara & the pork katsu with original curry. The portions were generous, enough to share, & flavors were amazing. Meats were super tender, the curries were mild, not spicy & the breading on the meats were krispy, cooked perfectly. There's a lot I'd love to try, highly recommend coming with more people if you want to order more food & share. Service was friendly, food was speedy & everything was tasty. Must try!View more

The portion is HUGE, well worth the 20$ price. This shop specializes in fried cutlets (katsu) : you can choose the type of meat you want (chicken, pork, fish) or vegetarian (cheese or sweet potato & cheese) & also the sauce that you want. They have several options to choose from. I tried the curry one & my friend got the sweet chili supreme. Both were nicely fried & sauces were good. Earlier in the month, I tried more stuff from the menu & the quality was maintained. Get the fried cheeseballs & the yuzu highball. Overall, a good place for lunch, for takeout or just a easy supper.View more

There's a complementary soup that goes with every meal. I got cheese balls as an appetizer, which are satisfyingly crispy with a melty center. They taste surprisingly sweet, & comes with a sauce that tastes like ketchup. The Japanese pork katsu was good. It is a good portion, with two cutlets, perfectly crispy. The sauce tastes like ketchup too. The service was good despite the restaurant being busy when we went. However, there is no air conditioner or fans, so it was extremely hot since it was so packed & it was about 30 degrees Celsius outside. I personally wouldn't go back for this reason.View more

The service was amazing, despite it being very busy we were served quickly & efficiently. Our waitress was kind & informative when we had questions. The menu was fine, had options of all sorts for different diets & it told you off the bat how spicy it was, if it was vegetarian or if it had pork etc & that was nice. The food itself wasn't great. The carbonara udon simply tasted like buldak noodles with add-ons & the katsu was crispy but nothing really special. The cheese balls were pretty good, but we didn't like the other chicken entee we got. My friends & I wouldn't go again, but we definitely didn't regret going as it was a nice experience to haveView more

First time there & I ordered the honeycomb pork loin katsu. The portion size is huge & really good for the price but I wish there was slightly more sauce for the katsu ratio. Service was great. Would definitely go back & try their other katsu.View more

We arrived & were seated right away. We were served a pitcher of water & 2 cups. Not too long after looking at their menu through a QR scan, our orders were taken. We got the Takoyakis as an appetizer, Japanese Chicken Katsu, Pork Curry Katsu, Ginger Ale Highball & an Asahi. We received our drinks a few minutes after. Then we waited a good 40 minutes before getting anything. We watched as the other tables before us get served so we just kind of counted down by seeing who was there before us. Finally got our food but after waiting that long, we were saying how it really wasn't worth the wait. My japanese chicken katsu was... ok, portion was big. I did think that it could've came with a little more rice & slaw. My girlfriend's pork katsu didn't come cut so she asked for a knife to cut it herself. My highball was diluted from waiting so long. Halfway through our meal, our waitress initially asked if we received our takoyakis but I heard her ask if we ordered so I said yes. So after a few minutes, I told her we were still waiting & we cleared up the confusion & got our takoyakis (after finishing our main dish) They were delicious. Bigger than usual & the crunch was great. Oh & they kept moving tables around to seat customers but we had to keep moving our tables to give them space. Honestly, did not like that + we didn't get any food at that point. I think it would've been'okay' if we got our takoyakis first then our meals instead of waiting 40 minutes for our main dishes & having our appetizer served later. Also, the people who were seated after us received their food a lot faster than we did. Overall, the food is good but service time & organization is a mess. I would rather make katsu at home to be honest.View more

I was a bit sad that the previous restaurant that occupied this space was gone but at the same time my husband & I were very excited to try the food here. The place was packed & there was a bit of a wait but we understood that we had come during its peak hours. It actually didn't take too long before we were seated & we pretty much knew what we wanted from looking at the menu while waiting. But it there were a lot of people so it took time before the waiter came to take our order. I ordered the Japanese style fish katsu along with a house lemonade while my husband & his friend got the pork loin katsu & each ordered one of their whisky cocktails. Water & a complementary soup was brought right away & we chatted as we waited for the food. Finally my husband & I got our respective orders but for some reason our friend, who had the same plate didn't get his for a long time. At least we finally had our drinks. The waitress asked if we wanted more soup & we accepted but again for some reason our companion did not get his soup. So we waited with him & by the time his plate arrived our food while still warm was no longer hot. The food was okay, it was a good portion but not quite what we had hoped for (my husband loved katsu when he was in Japan it was not quite the same). My fish the batter was nice & crispy but difficult to get the tartare sauce to stick to it. I seemed to have a smaller portion of sesame seeds compared to my husband andbour friend so that when I crushed it it was all stuck the the grooves of the bowl. I had to scrape the grooves to loosen it into my sauce. I think the main disappointment was the drinks could have been served while we were waiting for the food. But the atmosphere was good & the appetizers the tables next to us did look interesting. I might go again but sadly my husband will not.View more
