Jack Le Coq is widely praised for its fried chicken, with many reviewers noting juicy, crispy chicken and a standout poutine, along with generous portions of tenders and fries and a range of sauces that keep flavors lively. The atmosphere is described as warm and retro, and service is generally quick, friendly, and the space is kept clean, making it a reliable choice for chicken lovers in Verdun. While the chicken quality is celebrated, some reviews point to price increases and occasional inconsistency in texture or flavor, changes after ownership shifts, and issues with orders such as missing items, delivery glitches, or fries going cold. Some diners prefer spicy styles like Nashville and report that the regular version can be bland without added heat, though others praise the bold sauces and the variety of menu options including burgers and mac and cheese. Overall, Jack Le Coq is viewed as a standout option for fried chicken in the area, though a few guests feel value has diminished on recent visits.
If you crave fried chicken, this is the spot. They have the best fried chicken in town, & if you're adventurous, the spicy version hits the spot, even single time. The multiple sauce chimoices is great (I always rake the hot honey & the Flame (it's not too spicy, so you can try it). The service is always very very pleasant & polite & kind. Try it. The owner John is always there to provide amazing service all around, & the pink neons offers a cool cozy yet cyberpunk-esque vibe... pure awesome spot!
This was the best god damned fried chicken I've had in my entire life, I had a chicken burger & wings, it absolutely rocked me & left me shaking in my little boots! service was also super friendly despite how slammed they were! ill be back asap.

Chicken is good, so is the coleslaw, & the vibe. But fries are just the frozen crinkle cut type. Seems to me that this place could really benefit from having better fries.
The food was delicious! The vibe is great! The service was friendly! Our chicken burgers were crispy on the outside & tender on the inside (exactly how a great chicken burger should be)! The onion rings on the side were a great touch! Not overly salty or oily, but incredibly crunchy & yummy! I highly recommend this place & will be back!
Would have been 4 stars if they didn't cheat us of a chicken tender.
We ordered'la belle famille' & it's supposed to be 4 tenders & 4 fried chicken pieces. Got only 3 tenders
Other than that fries get cold & hard fast which leads me to believe they are frozen. Chicken is crispy, poutine gravy is good.
The mark is 4 stars due to the frozen fries & below average non homemade gravy. This Verdun cute 50's style décor fried chicken restaurant, once a Dunkin Doughnuts location, has quickly made itself a good reputation in the Verdun neighbourhood. FOOD: Chicken: I tried the two piece chicken box that included a delicious highly seasoned thick gravy, a generous portion of the « Mac n cheese » as my side, & two pieces of chicken - a drumstick & a thigh. - The Mac n cheese was creamy, the noodles were a little soft which added to the smooth texture while still having a little bite to the noodles. - The sauce was very similar to KFC, & you can easily tell that this is not home made as it was overly thick & not physically like a gravy. It was a very strong seasoning similar to KFC, but more spicy & peppery. It was actually decent when dipped with the chicken but not a sauce I would brag about. - The chicken was the star as it was perfectly cooked, crispy, had some crunch, & nicely seasoned. It's so well seasoned it really does not need the gravy at all. The seasoning of the breading actually tasted similar to KFC (like the gravy) but it was little more spicy than KFC. The big difference is KFC had a gross amount of breaded fat & chicken & the pieces are very small as well as greasy & often KFC chicken is just unpleasant to eat. I don't know about the white meat or strips, but I did notice the french fries & they looked just like the cheap average frozen (McCain like) fries at Au Coq - I suggest avoiding the fries & go for the Mac n Cheese. The restaurant was in good order, service was friendly & genuine while also being exact & prompt with the order. I had a chance to speak with Tony, the owner of this Verdun franchise location & he genuinely wanted to know how i enjoyed the food, made a genuine effort typo speak about how proud he is of his franchise & how much he loves the organization & the products he serves - & his children love it as well "kid tested & approved". So I think this place is a defined repeat. I would also say to the parent company (Le Groupe Abbatiello), the choice of french fry is the weakest link in the offering & given the love of fries & poutine, whatever your sales are - i would almost guarantee you that if you would provide a real frenchfried potato or a close enough frozen product your sales would increase by at least 22%. I do not know what gravy is being used for the poutine, but if it is the same as the chicken - again, another weak point. Your gravy should not giggle, it should move in a naturally liquified manner. My guess is that it is a powder mix or some prepared product to reduce franchise error & quality control issues… I strongly urge you to improve on the gravy & think about something that people would at least believe was a fresh product. So to all, good eating & be patient with your servers. & thank you Tony for a great meal.
Hi - We went for the first today to Jack Le Coq restaurant on Wellington street in Verdun. I must say that the chicken was very, very good with large portions. The price was also very reasonable, & it is for sure that I will be returning there soon!! I highly reccommend this restaurant!! Russell

They have fresh chicken, delicious & crunchy taste, quiet & clean environment, friendly service, convenient traffic, good price in these price-rising days! It has every good point as a restaurant, you name it!
Update from 3 years later: most of this still stands true. Quality went down at some point this year (2024) but glad to see that they corrected that! Original review: Hands down, best fast food fried chicken in the city. Been looking for a good one ever since I arrived in Montreal. Can finally say I found it after 6 years of searching. We take out from there at least once a week. "The chicken is perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside." This classic is definitely true here. The burgers are also really well thought out & the different combos are really good. So are most of the sides -- special shout-out to the onion rings. One of the best I've had, & the portions are pretty big. That last one is generally true of all the menu. They are quite generous on the portion sizes. I probably have tried everything on the menu by now. Only thing that was somewhat disappointing was the poutine. Could use more sauce, & it should be warmer so that it melts the cheese a bit. It would also be nice to have some more intricate poutines, akin to their burgers. As it stands, they are quite bland.
