Il Pagliaccio focuses on traditional Italian culinary techniques that emphasize the natural integrity of core ingredients. The kitchen produces a variety of handmade pasta shapes tossed in robust sauces that highlight regional characteristics from across the peninsula. Signature offerings feature carefully sourced flour and seasonal produce prepared to maintain authentic textures and flavors. Diners encounter a space optimized for efficiency where the preparation methods prioritize consistency and functional presentation. Crusts on the oven-baked items exhibit a crisp structure, while meat and vegetable components are treated to simple seasoning to accentuate their primary qualities. The menu reflects a straightforward approach to Mediterranean classics by avoiding unnecessary complexity in favor of reliable, time-honored recipes that adhere to essential culinary standards found in classic Italian trattorias.
Il Pagliaccio provides a refined Italian dining experience characterized by exceptional service and a focus on high-quality, authentic ingredients. Patrons frequently praise the homemade pasta, fresh seafood, and delicate desserts like the panna cotta, noting that the kitchen is highly accommodating regarding portion sizes and dietary preferences. While the pricing reflects an upscale and special occasion atmosphere, the welcoming staff and cozy, romantic environment make it a standout destination. Although occasional notes mention dishes being overly salty or coffee being acidic, the overall consensus highlights a consistent commitment to culinary excellence and warm hospitality that encourages many repeat visits.
i loved it! ordered the spaghetti with branzino & panna cotta for dessert & it was all delicious. incredibly simple & well executed dishes, with a very nice emphasis on good ingredients.
the spaghetti was a great meal, & a nice contrast between the richness of the sauce & the bright flavour of the cherry tomatoes. honestly i found that the fish didn't really need to be in there at all, it would have been just as good if not better as a vegetarian dish.
panna cotta was great too, i loved that the main flavour was really the fresh sweet cream, with some slight hints of lemon & vanilla.
the rest of the table ordered the filet mignon, fettucini ragu, beet salad, & eggplant parmigiana, as well as the lava cake & lemon tart for dessert, & everyone was quite happy with their food. lovely place for a very special occasion, as its quite pricey & the service is a lot more involved & upscale than i am typically used to!
Je ne m'attendais pas à ça! C'était notre première fois, nous étions au Rialto & nous cherchions un resto pas trop loin, italien de préférence. Voilà, on appelle, on réserve, on y va.
The opposite of pretentious, lovely staff & clientèle. Super clean. The gnocchi were the first excellent gnocchi I've had in North America. My wife loved this place. Service was excellent. On the imperfect side, the coffee served was way sour, the food salty for the salt-sensitive. That said, they accomodated & gave us a less salty appetizer ; we will definitely return & recommend it.

The best Italian restaurant in Montreal! We have been there many times, & every time the food is very delicious, the service is always excellent! A great dining experience! Highly recommended
Very neat restaurant & we are not big eaters, so we ordered an appetizer, a pasta & a secondi to share. They separated the dish into two for us. Very accommodating. Foods are good.
