Everything was tasty with quality ingredients, reminded us of meals in Japan. Service was very attentive & friendly.
The rice is cooked perfectly-chewy with distinct grains. Both the tempura & the tonkatsu sauce are especially delicious, & the seafood is fresh with just the right portion size. The restaurant is quite small, so you may need to wait in line during peak hours. The restaurant offers excellent service.
Food is delicious & well priced. The downside is the restaurant is very small & there is often a wait, but the food makes it worth it.
Restaurant délicieux. Le meilleur Japonais de Montréal pour nous. On s'est régalé !
Very delicious comfort meal. Great portion size & thickness with the meat- super crispy! Reasonably priced too.
Ordered:
- Hire Katsu Curry Udon
- Hire Katsu Curry Don
Hidden treasure, lost in the Chinatown, absolutely love this place & their dishes. A must try 😋
Discovered Hoshi in Montreal's Chinatown & wow - what a hidden gem! I had the rosu katsu curry (rice, pork cutlet, & Japanese curry), & honestly, it exceeded my expectations. The portions were generous, & it was so fulfilling - it filled both my stomach (& my heart)!🥹 The pork was perfectly crispy : light, not too greasy + the balance between the rice, pork, & curry was just perfect. The curry itself was rich, comforting, & full of flavor. The service was wonderful too - everyone was kind, friendly, & smiley, which made the whole experience even better. It was my first time here, but definitely not my last. ☺? Worth every cent, & I can't recommend it enough! This is officially one of my new favorite spots to visit whenever I'm in Montreal. 🍛✨
Pretty good food. The salmon don was really nice, & while the katsu was good, it soon gets soggy beneath all the rice. Good service & the staff speak at least french & english, which is a plus.
Excellent location, food comes fast & is very tasty. Had tempura udon, portions are large & all come with miso & cream of mushroom soup.
Won't make a mistake if you come here. Cheers
It's a cozy place with great service, our food arrived very quickly & it was delicious. I recommend you try it. The rosu katsu was very tasty.
Hoshi is my favourite lunch spot! I always get the Ten Don (tempura on rice). The portion is just right, & the sauce is so good. Love how the tempura mix (veggies, egg, shrimp, & scallop) always comes out perfectly crispy. The waitress is super nice & welcoming. The only downside is that the place is quite small, so if you come during busy hours, expect a bit of a wait. Totally worth it though!
One of my favorite to go restaurants. They serve big portions that make you full & the food is fresh & very tasty. It's perfect when it gets cold outside because they serve you soup on the side as well
Nourriture excellente, très savoureuse. Vraiment le highlight de mon année si vous êtes dans le coin & recherchez un restaurant c'est ici qu'il faut venir. Bons prix aussi

Hoshi's tonkatsu truly blew me away - it's the best I've tasted outside Japan in years! The pork was thick-cut at 15mm, perfectly cooked to tender, juicy perfection with a satisfyingly crunchy crust. Honestly, it almost sounds like a love song to this dish! I would recommend asking for tonkatsu sauce (sweet) on the side.
The miso soup complemented the meal beautifully, bursting with authentic umami flavor. The service was impeccable, & despite being a cozy, family-run spot, the atmosphere felt genuine & welcoming.
If you're a fan of tonkatsu, I wholeheartedly recommend Hoshi - a true gem for any pork lover.
