A very cozy, homestyle Japanese restaurant located right inside Chinatown!
I ordered the Udon Hoshi Katsu & really appreciated how generous they are with the crispy cod katsu & scallop katsu.
However, I'm not entirely sure how well the guacamole pairs with the udon. I also wish they would serve the fried fish & scallop on the side, as the steam from the hot udon tends to soften the crispy crust of the katsu.
If they are going for a fusion angle, a citrus & rice pairing might work a bit better here rather than mixing it with the heavy katsu sauce.
That being said, it's a lovely spot & I'd definitely say come out to support this small business! I really hope to see them refine the dish & improve over time.
Honestly I was so disappointed with the food. I've had some really good katsu sandos from other restaurants so I know what a good one should be. This one was so greasy & the breading was just soggy which meant the bread just soaked up all the oil. Likely the oil wasn't hot enough to set the crust.
On top of the food itself not being great the kitchen took at least 25-35 minutes to get my food out & I was the only person who had put in an order. There were two other tables in the restaurant but they were finishing up their food when I came in so it's not that the kitchen was overwhelmed with orders.
The two girls who worked the front were very nice & tried to accommodate me on this but the food was just inedible which is so unfortunate. I have never ever left a restaurant after eating only one bite of food but this was just too much.
Great service & vibes! Mushroom soup & pork Katsu were very very nice, salmon bowl was okay
Our plate came with a fly on it… & the waitress & turned a blind eye. She looked like she didn't want to work or be there, not a single smile while she served us. The katsu don was a bit too salty meanwhile the curry udon was a bit bland. They also forgot some ingredients to our bowl & we had to recheck the menu & asked them for it..
Best katsu I have tried in the city, the portions are more than generous, & the service is great!
Good enough.
Hoshi is a good enough Katsu for a reasonable price. Served with good rice & generous cabbage. Came with a soup too. I enjoyed it. I'll go again.
The facade is a little busted up. Don't let that scare you from coming in!
Rosu katsu - Pork was tender & juicy. A bit bland. There was Not as much fat as I expected in this cut.
Many places that serve katsu, serve cabbage salad with a sesame dressing. They have a more yozu type. It was fine
Best part of meal is the free tasty creamy mushroom soup!
Service was great. Very friendly & helpful.
Service was fantastic! Had a chance to exchange with the staff too. Katsu was excellent! Took me back to Japan! Really enjoyed my meal there! Would recommend
Just ignore the debatable exterior of the restaurant & eat some juicy, tasty, crispy Katsu.
