Hoshi is widely regarded as a hidden gem in Chinatown that offers an authentic and high-quality Japanese dining experience. Patrons consistently praise the pork katsu for being exceptionally tender, juicy, and perfectly crispy, often highlighting it as the standout dish on the menu. The restaurant is noted for its generous portion sizes, flavorful sauces, and beautiful presentation, all provided at reasonable prices. While the space is cozy and limited, which can lead to wait times during peak hours, the service is frequently described as warm, efficient, and exceptionally friendly. A place worth stopping by. Everything was great, starting from a complimentary cream soup & ending with fantastic katsu plates. Also the service was perfect. Strongly recommend!

Hoshi is a hidden gem in Chinatown. The restaurant is small & they don't take reservations, so it's best to go during non-peak hours to avoid the long lineups. Their pork cutlet katsu is an absolute must-try-I was blown away from the very first bite of the sandwich. The meat was incredibly juicy & full of flavor.

The salmon tataki & salmon bowl are also really good, but the pork is definitely the show-stealer. A spot well worth checking out if you're in the area.

We absolutely loved our experience at Hoshi. The katsu was absolutely delicious, crispy on the outside & tender on the inside, with a flavorful & perfectly seasoned sauce. The portions are generous, & everything was beautifully presented.

The service was warm, friendly, efficient, & very fast. The restaurant is small & cozy, with a lovely atmosphere, but that's also part of its charm. A true little gem in Chinatown! ❤?

Well made, nice quality pork katsu with curry & rice. Service staff were really nice & attentive. They were out of the menu item I wanted, but to be fair I went in a very busy weekend. Interesting spot in Chinatown.

Our experience this time fell a little short of what we had read in the reviews, though we hope it was just an off day. The service was genuinely friendly & hospitable, & the portions were generous - the complimentary cream of mushroom soup was also a nice touch. We ordered the Teppan Hamburger Steak & the Katsu Curry Udon, but both dishes came out too heavily seasoned for our taste. The miso soup on the side was similarly over-seasoned, with the anchovy notes from the dashi stock overpowering the other components. My partner also got a stomachache after the katsu curry udon, which may have been a one-off, but it added to an overall mediocre experience unfortunately. We've had better katsu & Japanese steak elsewhere.

Was on the lookout for some katsu curry. Reviews looked promising, so I gave it a go. Was not disappointed, the food & service were top notch. I went for the rosu (pork) katsu curry & it was great! Highly recommend a visit.

A very cozy, homestyle Japanese restaurant located right inside Chinatown!

I ordered the Udon Hoshi Katsu & really appreciated how generous they are with the crispy cod katsu & scallop katsu.

However, I'm not entirely sure how well the guacamole pairs with the udon. I also wish they would serve the fried fish & scallop on the side, as the steam from the hot udon tends to soften the crispy crust of the katsu.

If they are going for a fusion angle, a citrus & rice pairing might work a bit better here rather than mixing it with the heavy katsu sauce.

That being said, it's a lovely spot & I'd definitely say come out to support this small business! I really hope to see them refine the dish & improve over time.

The food was quite solid tbh. Definitely the most tender pork katsu I had in MTL, & the sauces were pretty good too. On the negative sides, the breading was seriously wet on my cutlet which is a big disappointment, & there didn't seem to be any bathroom.
