Review Summary

Hoshi is widely regarded as a hidden gem in Chinatown that offers an authentic and high-quality Japanese dining experience. Patrons consistently praise the pork katsu for being exceptionally tender, juicy, and perfectly crispy, often highlighting it as the standout dish on the menu. The restaurant is noted for its generous portion sizes, flavorful sauces, and beautiful presentation, all provided at reasonable prices. While the space is cozy and limited, which can lead to wait times during peak hours, the service is frequently described as warm, efficient, and exceptionally friendly. Many guests appreciate the thoughtful touches, such as the complimentary soup, and feel that the delicious, homestyle cooking makes the visit well worth the trip.

Sushi, kimchi, & rice were not fresh at all ! Waiter ASKS for tipping which must be something the customer desires. Beautiful & clean atmosphere, fast service (not very special but satisfying), clear instructions. The beer was enjoyably cold.

Hoshi was an okay experience. My partner & I came after seeing an ad on Instagram. We started off with complimentary mushoom soup that was a great way to beat the cold. I ordered the Katsu-don, & my partner got the katsu. The katsu were as thick as the pictures showed. It was crunchy & maybe a bit overdone as it was slightly chewy. I personally would've liked the cuts to be thinner if anything because I value the crunchy outside. The egg didn't seem to be seasoned, maybe intentionally, but the sauce with the rice was really good. My partner's comments were that he also found the katsu to be a bit tough & would've liked more of the seasoning on the side. There was also a lot of salad. Overall, this is a cute hole in the wall Japanese restaurant that really tries to give authentic Japanese food. Personally, I don't see myself coming here too often, but it was good.
