Visited for dinner yesterday
Overall, we had a really great dining experience at Hacket Grill. The service was impressively fast, friendly, & efficient throughout the evening, & the food was packed with flavor. Highlights for us included the Mongolian beef, the spicy chili chicken & beef, & the egg fried rice-everything we ordered tasted fresh & delicious, & we genuinely enjoyed our meal.
The only reason for docking a star is the experience with the Spectra app coupon ($25 all-you-can-eat buffet). Once you arrive with the coupon, you are handed a separate, restricted buffet menu with a much more limited selection compared to the regular menu. Because of this, you don't get a full taste of what the kitchen actually offers, & the choices for re-ordering are quite restricted.
If you stick to the à la carte menu or know what to expect with the promotion, the food & service are definitely worth checking out.
My daughter put me on to this spot. As a Muslim, I was excited to eat Chinese Halal food in Montreal. My granddaughter ate General Tao Chicken for the first time.
The service wss great. I must say, being a vegan, I did not have many options. Perhaps green beans or peas could have been added to my vegetable noodles. It was tasty though.
I have also been advised that none of their dishes contain mushrooms, because of food allergies. It found that considerate & informative.
Bonus points for having a prayer room!
I am sure this restaurant will evolve as the word spreads
The food itself was good & had plenty of flavor, but the chili chicken was more of a sweet chili chicken. It wasn't really spicy at all.
The biggest issue for me was the portion size. The picture was taken before I even ate anything, & you can see how small the chili chicken portion was. For the price, I expected a much better portion.
Overall, the food was good, but the portions definitely need to be better for what you're paying.
We stopped by Hakka Grill for lunch & had a great experience from start to finish. The food was fresh, flavorful, & served quickly. We tried a couple of their chicken dishes, & they were both delicious-well-seasoned, perfectly cooked, & generously portioned. The drinks were also refreshing & paired really well with the meal.
The staff were welcoming, attentive, & happy to answer our questions & help us choose from the menu. Their friendly attitude made us feel right at home.
Overall, it was an excellent lunch, & we're glad we decided to give Hakka Grill a try. Great food, great service, & a pleasant atmosphere. We'd definitely come back & would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a tasty meal in Montréal!
I decided to try Hakka Grill after seeing it recommended on TikTok while looking for good Hakka Chinese food. Unfortunately, it was one of the biggest disappointments I've had.
The food was extremely overpriced for the quality. Our bill came to over $161, & it honestly wasn't worth even half of that. The chicken lollipops were served so cold that they tasted like they had just come out of the freezer. I've never had chicken lollipops served like that at any Hakka restaurant.
The fried rice was another surprise. In all the years I've eaten Hakka food, I've never had broccoli mixed into fried rice. It didn't taste authentic, & the overall quality of the food was very poor.
The service was just as disappointing. We were the last dine-in customers of the night & placed our order within about 15 minutes, yet a 15% gratuity was automatically added to our bill despite receiving little to no customer service. To make matters worse, we weren't even provided with an itemized bill to review the charges.
This restaurant may have good reviews online, but that certainly wasn't our experience. Don't rely solely on TikTok or online recommendations because they don't always reflect reality. We left feeling disappointed, overcharged, & unsatisfied. I definitely won't be coming back.
From start to finish, everything exceeded my expectations. The Dynamite Shrimps were a standout, the Fried Fish was perfectly crispy, the Chicken Chow Mein was full of flavor, & both the Kung Pao Beef & Chilli Chicken were cooked to perfection. The Peach Mocktail was the perfect refreshing finish. Great quality, generous portions, & excellent service. I'll definitely be back!
We ordered the Mongolian Beef, Chili Chicken, & Chicken Chow Mein. The food itself was really good, with the Mongolian Beef & Chili Chicken being the absolute favorites for our table-both had fantastic flavor & great execution.
Best halal Chinese in Montreal. Chili chicken is my favourite & dynamite shrimps a better the pf change.
AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COSTS!
Worst Hakka Chinese food I've ever had! The chicken fried rice had no chicken in it & it was more like a Pulao. The rice had some kind of insecticide smell to it. It gave me & my whole family diarrhea. I ordered the food for my dad's birthday party. The manchurian gravy chicken had no gravy & was sweet & super spicy both at the same time! It was weird. The corn chicken soup & chef special chicken soup were like water, there was no chicken in it. No taste whatsoever! We had to throw it away. I'm not sure how these guys have managed to show good ratings on Google. JUST MINTING MONEY BY SERVING THE WORST FOOD THAT CAN COST YOU YOUR HEALTH! TRUST ME, YOU'LL THANK ME LATER!
