Great example of a local casse-croûte. The place is clean & more inviting than your typical late night food joint. Service is quick.
I can't comment on all their food, but their poutine is one of the best in town. Dark flavorful gravy, good cheese ratio, solid fries. The base poutine is solid, but the more loaded ones are where Greenspot shines.
A Montreal institution, don't hesitate to visit.View more
A Montreal institution!
We go for poutine, steamies (steamed hot dog, if you were wondering) & other greasy food because let's face it, sometimes, that is all you want & all that matters.
Generous poutine with gravely hot gravy, thick brown fries accompanied with cheese curds that makes you squeek over for more. Lots of variety for toppings. Our fav: anything sausage & ground beef.
Love their steamy. Comes hot & moist but sausage is still firm & not in a wet bun.
Steamie fun fact:
'All dressed' = mustard, relish, onions, coleslaw (no ketchup!)
'All dressed ketchup' = all-dressed + ketchupView more
Problem is this has always been mid tier food. That was the selling point. ,3$ a hotdog & 15$ poutine for very mid food that should be cheap. Not cool anymore. Fries are soggy, sauce is the powder, & barly curdsView more
This is a great spot for a quick dine in ! The staff is friendly, the service is quick, & the prices are very reasonable. I always get the steak & fries, the salads & desserts are also very good ! It has a cute retro vibe, it feels like your transported to a different time, right here in the city !View more
The driest Italian poutine I have ever tasted. The sauce was so dry that it could not penetrate the fries or cheese. Basically very poor quality & taste.View more
I went to Greenspot last week for lunch. The place wasn't too crowded, the service was fast even tho a waiter forgot about me once & the plate was huge. I ordered the club sandwich which came with a LOT of fries, a cup of gravy, a nice portion of coleslaw along with a slice of pickle & marinated red pepper. The club sandwich was big, had lots of chicken, tomatoes, good lettuce & crispy bacon. My only complaint about the dish is that there wasn't enough mayo in the cup they gave me for the whole thing so at the end I was dipping the sandwich in the gravy. Oh & the meal came with a good chicken & noodles soup along with a coffee & dessert. I didn't have the dessert because I was very full after the soup & the meal. A first good experience.View more
Super cool & old-school, I would say this is the best poutine in Montreal. I highly recommend the St. Henry Witch, which comes with pieces of steak. One important thing that caught my eye is that their fries are not soggy & are real fries, not the pre-made ones.View more
Oh yeaah so this review might not help much lol but eh if yall are craving pizza & a damn heavy cheesy cheese pizza or pepperoni or even a meat lover this is yo spot after a night of heavy partying or evening strolling through the city & your tummy looking to be full, this is the right spot. Of course, they not only have pizza, but definitely other items are on the menu. Burgers with fries, sandwiches, shakes, breakfast. It's all there. Hit them up for a morning or lunch or dinner dine in.View more
Poutine: -fries 3/5 -cheese 5/5 -sauce 4/5 More sauce would be a bit beneficial too compensate with the fries but other than that thats a more than decent classic cantine poutineView more
What a cute place! I had a Chicago hotdog & my partner had a poutine. Not so fancy of the fries, too greasy for my taste.View more
Top notch for late late night food, but there's not a lot of competition. I wouldn't bring a guest. As a diner during the day, it's middling. The fries are inconsistent. I was trying to show someone a proper Quebec poutine & it was a fail, but I've had decent ones from here. That all sounds pretty negative. Let me end with: this is 1000x better than chains & if you want a steamy or classic diner fare you cannot go wrong.View more
Caveat, we generally are not really into fast food, but we do like a good pastrami sandwich & wanted to try poutine, & love historic vintage places, so we decided to give Greenspot a try. The smoked meat sandwich & poutine were the best things we tried. I liked the squeaky cheese & the style of fries, both crispy & soft at the same time, but the gravy was a bit too salty. The smoked meat sandwich was stuffed with meat, like at Katz's Deli in New York & tasted great. The pizza which my son had oddly had the pepperoni under the cheese (maybe this is a Canadian thing). He enjoyed it. My daughter & husband shared a lasagna, but we were shocked to receive a massive family size portion with the lunch menu. But it was not great... There were dry inedible pasta edges, & parts where the pasta doesn't have sauce in between & it's just layers of cooked pasta stuck together. There were also a lot of whole cloves in the sauce for some reason, & my daughter hurt her tooth biting one. The minestrone soup that came with the lasagna was just average diner soup, possibly canned soup heated up. Overall, the meal was heavy & what you'd expect of an average diner. Not great but not awful. Also the lunch special was supposed to come with coffee & a dessert, which would have been way too much food, considering the massive portions, but I did notice that the waitress didn't bring it up & ask if we wanted it. On the plus side, it's cool to eat in a vintage diner, & I wish we had a coin to try the jukebox at the table. We didn't find out if they worked or not.View more
Cute place with lots of memorabilia & old timey booths. The staff doesn't smile much, Not a fan of the dark gravy sauce on the poutine & the fries weren't as crispy as I'd like them. Cheap & decent hotdogs.View more
I love the look of this place, a classic diner with old jukeboxes & booths. Limited gluten-free options but the server bent over backwards to find me options. Ended up with a cheeseburger lettuce wrap & fries which were both delicious! My friends had poutines & they both loved it too. I recommend stopping in when you are in Montreal.View more
I've been going there for years.Friendly & very efficient! They obviously are true survivors. They were there when hot dogs were fifteen cents.Guessing 75 to 80years ago.Club sandwich hands down best in Montreal & there fries too.Jimmy in the front gives great service,& is always very pleasant.Good job guys!!!!Ps Jimmy who works in the front is the best.Always gives great service...View more
Best hot dogs I've had in Montreal & fries portions are huge!View more
ordered two BLTs & they got the salem witch trials special, quite disappointed with that. the fries were out of this world tho.View more
The poutine was huge in size but the gravy is a bit salty & watery for us. Some fries was very dry & hard. I was expecting it to be crispy.View more
Best poutine in the world. The smoked meat is excellent. The fries are some of the best in the univers. Club sandwich is 5 stars. Breakfast is the best in the city. Be careful, this place becomes addictive very quickly.View more
I've been here for breakfast food & it was quite good, but in the night time the food is often just not good. The fries are clearly defrosted costco fries, the gravy is from powder. If they would at least make their own fries that would go a long way to making the whole restaurant a lot better given that half the menu is literally based around French fries.View more
There was some confusion with the outdoor menu, that's just for take out, if you want to dine in, you will receive a more extended menu, but the 76 anniversary combos are just for take out. The potatoes fries were a little bit greasy, it had a resemblance to five guy's french fries & I thought the combo burger was a cheeseburger, but the meat was very good.View more
