We are staying in Montreal to celebrate our wedding anniversary,. We. are staying in a hotel on the edge of Old Montreal, & were looking for an early dinner late lunch restaurant near by. We were recommended to visit Gaspar, & when we did they were more than accommodating even though we did not have a reservation. Our waiter Dominic welcomed us & made us feel right at home. The service was so comforting like we had been there many times before. The wine list was varied enough for our taste, & affordable. The kitchen had just opened, but the food was delicious. I would recommend the beef cheeks, & that if you would like to attend that you make a reservation in advance.

The beef cheek risotto is regarded as a specialty & I vouch. The meat was excellent. Octopus appetizer was tender & nice. Wine selection yielded good results. desserts were a pleasant surprise - the crust of the raspberry tart was the perfect consistency & saturation. Sorbet was solid. While this is much closer to upscale casual than fine dining overall. Fair prices.View more

A large group of us spent a fun evening here last week. The atmosphere was lovely, most of the food was excellent (a few dishes were a bit too salty & some had the wrong sauce on them), but the overall experience was wonderful, mostly to the credit of our amazing server, Dominic. He was so attentive, recommended excellent wines & oysters, & really made all of us feel welcome & happy. I will definitely come back here next time I am in Montreal.View more

We were a group of eight, & it turned out to be our best night out in Montreal-largely thanks to the incredible hospitality of our server, Dominic. He was warm, engaging, funny, & thoughtful, with an impressive knowledge of the menu. His recommendations were spot-on. Every dish was outstanding-from the appetizers to our entrees, filet mignon, bass, salmon, pasta, beet salad, & dessert recommendations were phenomenal. The raspberry crème brûlée & cheesecake were unlike anything we've had back in the States. We also all enjoyed the wine Dominic chose for us, Sancerre Les Panseillots Sauvignon Blanc, it was light & refreshing with citrus & earthy tones. This was a great find for us! It was very crowded, so we sat at the bar. The wine we wanted was unavailable so Marguerite, our bartender/server was AMAZING!!! She recommended another bottle that we loved. She was attentive despite the fact that she was the only one working the bar & was so cool & collected despite being run off her feet!! Had dinner here July 26th. Mussels were not good although the Cornish hen dish in creamed cauliflower was very good. Felt the restaurant was overrated. Good wine recommendation from the server although at CA$65 it should be. Many other excellent alternatives to dine in Old Town.View more

The food was AMAZING. I got the braised beef with saffron risotto & it was the best meal out I've had in a while. The cocktails & wine list were great, too. We did wait a while for our food, the portions were not huge & they didn't have a kids menu. But overall amazing experience just because the dish I got was so good! It was also pretty easy to get a reservation last minute on Friday night & they were able to seat us early.View more

Tonight was disappointing overall. First, it is important to note: 1. We knew going into this evening that we might need to go up a few steps. It's Old Montreal. The restaurant is listed as "wheelchair accessible." It is not. 2. Our server Kayla did everything she could to make sure we had a nice evening. She is overworked. 3. The food is amazing. I included a note on our reservation that we had a wheelchair & that my husband would transfer from his chair to a regular chair. When we arrived, the only place that was accessible was outdoor seating. I had requested indoor seating. There were 3 to 4 tables just inside the restaurant that were empty with only one step up. The hostess said she would check. After some time & back & forth, she said we'd have to eat in the hotel lobby, which was down the street a bit, but now 4 steep steps up without a full handrail. Meanwhile, the manager is standing 5 ft. from us & does not help at all. So that was the option we took, even though there was a much more accessible option literally right next to us. Because we weren't in the restaurant, Kayla was running her butt off trying to keep up. She totally missed getting our wine to us until we were almost done with dinner. About halfway through our entrees, the manager stopped by, & we asked him to tell Kayla to cancel the wine. He didn't. From a liability standpoint, this manager is not looking out for his restaurant. The option with 1 step vs. 4 steep steps. Hmmm, which one presents a larger liability? Not to mention his service failures. Overall, I'm very disappointed. Kayla deserves a better manager.View more

So we decided to try this place in the old town. From the moment we stepped inside, the ambiance oozed sophistication. Crisp white tablecloths adorned the linen-draped tables, bathed in the warm glow of strategically placed chandeliers. The attentive staff, fluent in both French & English, ensured our every need was met with a smile & a genuine passion for the culinary arts. We started with a shared charcuterie board - a must-try for any lover of cured meats & handcrafted delicacies. From the melt-in-your-mouth duck prosciutto to the robustly spiced salami, each bite was a revelation. Alongside, a trio of house-made mustards, cornichons, & pickled vegetables offered the perfect counterpoints. For my main course, I opted for the duck confit. This French classic was executed to absolute perfection. The duck leg, slow-cooked until the meat fell off the bone with the gentlest touch, was beautifully crisped on the skin. Nestled on a bed of creamy mashed vegetables & surrounded by a rich, flavorful sauce, it was a dish that both comforted & tantalized. We decided to skip dessert as we were quite full. First time at this restaurant & we had some exceptional service from Ludo. This guy was absolutely amazing , super polite & had really good recommendations! I totally forgot to take photos of our cocktails, meals & wine & then dessert. But we want with his recommendations & loved all of it. We also had a second server (I didn't catch her name), but she was working with Ludo & was also amazing. I'd definitely go back to try the other dishes & the rest of the cocktails. First the good, lovely atmosphere & the foie gras was delicious. The wine was also very good (a French savignon blanc) & the dessert was excellent. I had the lemon tartlette, though it turned out to be lemon & cranberry when it arrived Unfortunately the experience was marred by some surprisingly lack luster service. First, I stood at the host stand when I entered for almost five minutes with no one there & not a single person acknowledging my presence or that of two other parties that came in after me. When a server eventually came over she pointed me to a table & then walked away. She didn't bring a menu, water, a greeting... nothing for another 5 minutes while she walked past my table four times. The restaurant was not even half full & I counted four staff on the floor. Eventually she took my order, I had the duck confit which was wildly overcooked. I have eaten a LOT of duck confit over the years & this was extremely dark in color almost black in parts, tough & chewy. I didn't even finish it. I can't speak as to why the quality of the duck was so off. Others wrote glowingly about it. As for the service, I totally understand if you're in the weeds-I used to work in service, but she didn't appear to be. She just seemed to not manage her tables well. Given the stellar reviews, perhaps I just came on an off night but it's surprising given its reputation & the price. Probably won't come back given there are so many other places to try... which is a shame. I might still recommend it but with some caveats.View more

Great atmosphere. Good music, not too loud for an easy conversation. Well seasoned dishes with generous servings. Excellent wine selection as welll as a very good Tito's lemon drop & 10 year Port. Marie-Florence, our waitress, was attentive & made great recommendations, especially for the side salad with raspberry vinaigrette that was off the menu...... it should be added to the regular menu!!!
