We picked this place to celebrate our anniversary & wanted authentic French cuisine. We weren't disappointed. We were greeted at the front by an extremely polite hostess who congratulated us on our anniversary & guided us to a nice table with a street view. Our waiter also congratulated us on our anniversary & offered complimentary drinks to celebrate. We had French onion soup & bison tartare to start, which were exquisite. Special mention goes to the onion soup, which was made to perfection. Spot-on caramelized onions-for hours, as evidenced by the color-rich broth, tasty bread, & superb house-smoked cheese on top. This was one of the best onion soups I've ever had in our five visits to Montreal & Quebec City. The beef cheek with risotto was also heavenly. Super tender, & the risotto was quite unique compared to others I've tried. It was very flavorful with saffron, while squash added sweetness, nicely balanced by the saltiness of the Parmesan cheese. 10 out of 10. Would definitely recommend.View more
I had forgotten how wonderful a French brasserie could be! Cod croquettes, Beef cheeks with saffron rice & moules frites were all wonderful. Drinks were expertly prepared by Dahlia & food service by Rachel capped the meal perfectly. Will definitely return & send my friends! Thank you!View more
Food was divine. The marrow & escargot was appetizer was unlike anything I've had before & I would return to Montreal just for that dish! Our server, Marie Florence, took great care of us & was patient with my attempts at French.View more
The most superb service I have ever experienced at a restaurant. The mushroom pasta & duck confit is a phenomenal addition to the restaurant French menu. Our memorable waitress Rachel, the manager & other staff are stellar representations of quality service.View more
Horrible experience. My relatives that visited from another country & were't familiar with this food culture. We ordered less main dishes than the number of people & shared them. Because of that, we got ignored & unfairly treated. It took forever for us to get the staff every time, & when we do, they were very rude. Steak knives weren't provided with the steak so we asked for some politely, the staff threw a few onto our table as if it's for animals. Ketchup weren't provided for multiple fries on the side so we asked for some, the staff just threw two packets onto our table, while they normally serve ketchup in metal containers. I almost feel ashamed that this is the French cuisine they chose to experience on their last day in Montreal. Won't come here again.View more
Wonderful atmosphere, great drinks, & amazing French food! Our bartender Marguerite was so kind & fun to talk to. She also gave us some great tips on what to see in Montreal.View more
Gaspar Brasserie Française is still killing it! It's been a minute since I last came, & I'm glad we stopped by for lunch, even though they were only serving brunch. No kids menu, but no worries - we ordered the fried chicken with French toast, & WOW, the chicken was crispy & super juicy, with a delicious French twist. The poutine was on point too, & you could actually taste a hint of apple cider in the gravy, which we loved. The salads were fresh, & the avocado toast hit the spot. The burger? So juicy & perfectly seasoned. We left full & happy. Bonus points for the crayons & coloring sheets for the little ones, even without a dedicated kids menu! Love the atmosphere & service was quick & friendlyView more
Beautiful French brasserie in the old town of Montreal. Food was delicious & our server Marie was lovely & cheerful, helping us with any questions we had about the menu.View more
This restaurant offers a fusion of French cuisine & local Montreal ingredients, creating innovative yet comforting dishes that leave a lasting impression. The service is exceptionally warm & welcoming, much like the city of Montreal itself.View more
Rating a 4 because I got the steak which came with French fries, & the fries were really mediocre & were about half the plate worth of food. The other dishes my family ordered all tasted amazing, & made me wish I had ordered something else. Staff were great though, & it's a great area to be in on a Friday night.View more
A Parisian Escape in the Heart of Montreal: A Five-Star Soirée at Gaspar Brasserie Francaise Montreal's culinary scene boasts a wealth of French influences, any trip to Montreal without trying experience its French gastronomy would be incomplete! So we decided to try this place in the old town. From the moment we stepped inside, the ambiance oozed sophistication. Crisp white tablecloths adorned the linen-draped tables, bathed in the warm glow of strategically placed chandeliers. The attentive staff, fluent in both French & English, ensured our every need was met with a smile & a genuine passion for the culinary arts. We started with a shared charcuterie board - a must-try for any lover of cured meats & handcrafted delicacies. From the melt-in-your-mouth duck prosciutto to the robustly spiced salami, each bite was a revelation. Alongside, a trio of house-made mustards, cornichons, & pickled vegetables offered the perfect counterpoints. For my main course, I opted for the duck confit. This French classic was executed to absolute perfection. The duck leg, slow-cooked until the meat fell off the bone with the gentlest touch, was beautifully crisped on the skin. Nestled on a bed of creamy mashed vegetables & surrounded by a rich, flavorful sauce, it was a dish that both comforted & tantalized. We decided to skip dessert as we were quite full. The restaurant also offers a robust wine list for the wine lovers. Overall we liked this place. The convenient location, friendly staff & good food 👌View more

First the good, lovely atmosphere & the foie gras was delicious. The wine was also very good (a French savignon blanc) & the dessert was excellent. I had the lemon tartlette, though it turned out to be lemon & cranberry when it arrived Unfortunately the experience was marred by some surprisingly lack luster service. First, I stood at the host stand when I entered for almost five minutes with no one there & not a single person acknowledging my presence or that of two other parties that came in after me. When a server eventually came over she pointed me to a table & then walked away. She didn't bring a menu, water, a greeting... nothing for another 5 minutes while she walked past my table four times. The restaurant was not even half full & I counted four staff on the floor. Eventually she took my order, I had the duck confit which was wildly overcooked. I have eaten a LOT of duck confit over the years & this was extremely dark in color almost black in parts, tough & chewy. I didn't even finish it. I can't speak as to why the quality of the duck was so off. Others wrote glowingly about it. As for the service, I totally understand if you're in the weeds-I used to work in service, but she didn't appear to be. She just seemed to not manage her tables well. Given the stellar reviews, perhaps I just came on an off night but it's surprising given its reputation & the price. Probably won't come back given there are so many other places to try... which is a shame. I might still recommend it but with some caveats.View more
