We are staying in Montreal to celebrate our wedding anniversary,. We. are staying in a hotel on the edge of Old Montreal, & were looking for an early dinner late lunch restaurant near by. We were recommended to visit Gaspar, & when we did they were more than accommodating even though we did not have a reservation. Our waiter Dominic welcomed us & made us feel right at home. The service was so comforting like we had been there many times before. The wine list was varied enough for our taste, & affordable. The kitchen had just opened, but the food was delicious. I would recommend the beef cheeks, & that if you would like to attend that you make a reservation in advance.

Here in Montreal only for a few days & we wanted to find a nice steakhouse. We decided on the sidewalk table at Gaspar & had an amazing meal. The filet mignon was incredible. Such flavor, perfectly cooked to our liking. Rachel was our server & she was polite & quick even though she was incredibly busy. I highly recommend Gaspar if you are in the area.View more

We picked this place to celebrate our anniversary & wanted authentic French cuisine. We weren't disappointed. We were greeted at the front by an extremely polite hostess who congratulated us on our anniversary & guided us to a nice table with a street view. Our waiter also congratulated us on our anniversary & offered complimentary drinks to celebrate. We had French onion soup & bison tartare to start, which were exquisite. Special mention goes to the onion soup, which was made to perfection. Spot-on caramelized onions-for hours, as evidenced by the color-rich broth, tasty bread, & superb house-smoked cheese on top. This was one of the best onion soups I've ever had in our five visits to Montreal & Quebec City. The beef cheek with risotto was also heavenly. Super tender, & the risotto was quite unique compared to others I've tried. It was very flavorful with saffron, while squash added sweetness, nicely balanced by the saltiness of the Parmesan cheese. 10 out of 10. Would definitely recommend.View more

We visited Gaspar twice & both times were a perfect combination of warm ambiance & delicious cuisine. The first night we requested dinner service in the quieter room near the fireplace. If you're looking for a place to have a cozy intimate chat with minimal interruptions, I highly recommend you choose this option. Both the server & support staff kept a watchful eye over our table while being subtle in their presence. A few nights later we returned for a late dinner at the bar. If you've ever eaten dinner at a bar top you know that the barkeep is a huge part of the experience. From conversation to intuition about coursing out our food, Vana truly embodied the charismatic stewardship we'd hoped for. The entire staff were cheerful & friendly as they took care of the nightly tasks of keeping the restaurant & bar running smoothly. It's always a good feeling to witness coworkers enjoying each other's company-especially because they're what make a place truly magical.
I could go on for days about the food, but instead I'll give the highlights. It's clear the chef & kitchen crew at Gaspar Brasserie Francaise take pride in their work. If you're a fan of beet salads with a citrus twist, you'll be happy to know they've got you covered. The charcuterie plate will give you a sense that you've had everything you'd dreamed of snacking on & more, while leaving room for the next course. There's a certain finesse to cooking octopus that I'm happy to report they nailed while pairing it with Mediterranean inspired sides-the dried cranberries, grilled Meyer lemon & cumin joining together beautifully in a dance of textures. In addition to being perfectly cooked, the filet mignon & seared striped bass were paired with winter vegetables that made each protein sing. They also had an excellent array of seasonal dishes with farm to table flare to fit a variety of dietary needs. I look forward to coming back in the Spring to discover which veggies will make an appearance on the menu.View more

A Delightful Dog-Friendly Brunch in Old Montreal Gaspar was a fantastic find during our visit to the Old Port! I had the avocado toast with an extra poached egg, a delicious latte, & some bubbles-it's vacation, after all! My boyfriend ordered the Gaspar Breakfast & said it was great, especially the bread with butter, which was beyond delicious. What truly made the experience memorable was how warmly they welcomed us with our Therapy Service Dog, referring to her as "le chien fameux". Our server Ludo was incredibly attentive & made sure we had everything we needed, adding to the relaxed & enjoyable atmosphere. It's rare to find such a warm dog-friendly spot with amazing food & excellent service. Highly recommend for visitors or locals alike.View more

**Update** Came back for a second time & was not disappointed! Had the same beef cheek & my colleague the flank steak which was great! We shared a Tuna tartare that was to die for 🤤🤤🤤 Came for diner last Friday as this place was recommended by a family member & boys did we have a nice meal. I was lucky enough to have a fantastic tasting menu here with a large group. The escargot with nduja was a supremely appetizing starter, spicy & inviting. The foie gras terrine was unctuous & flavourful with plenty of acidity from the berry compote, & the duck confit was delicious too. Nice chocolate cake to round things off.
