One of the most memorable seafood meals I've ever had. You know a restaurant is amazing when they can make a carrot so flavourful & interesting you savour it as slowly & carefully as every other bite. Our server was fabulous & brought us perfect wine pairings for our courses. The cheerful person bussing our table was delighted to see that I had scraped up all the horseradish on my cocktail sauce which she proudly shared she had prepared for the prawns, which in itself was amazing--super thick, rich & tomatoey. It was a pleasure seeing staff taking pride in even the little details. Presentation for every dish was beautiful! I loved the clams on rocks! Every bite of each course had so much flavour, I had to lick the plate when no one was looking. We had the lowest tier chef's tasting menu, which included a seafood platter, clams, tuna, beets 4 ways, swordfish, turbot, the carrots, & two kinds of desserts. I only wish I lived here, I could come back on the regular! Thank you for a spectacular meal!
I only gave 4 stars for ambiance because it was maybe not my favourite choice of music playing a little too loudly in the background, though I guess it was probably the vibe they were going for.
What an incredible experience beginning to end. The restaurant is warm & inviting, the staff very friendly & knowledgeable - all of their recommendations were fantastic.
A huge thanks to David & Chef for ensuring our dinner was impeccable. I have some significant dietary constraints & wasn't sure I would be able to participate with the rest of the group in the storied tasting menu. However, David was most kind in coordinating with me in advance a full presentation with modifications to ensure I could enjoy the evening.
Everything from the Ahi, to the beets, to the swordfish, salmon, carrot & the most incredible apple & coconut sorbet was delightful. Truly a unique & inviting experience, highly recommend.
This was legitimately one of the best meals that both me & my fiancée had ever had. It sounds like an exaggeration but it was true. Both of us agreed that we had never truly understood how a dish could be'perfectly balanced' until this meal. We had the chef's menu (second tier) & every dish was delicious & was plenty of food (I am a hungry man & often find'fancy' restaurant meals don't satisfy me but this was certainly not the case). We went to another nice restaurant the following night & it was good, but could not be compared to this meal. All of the service staff were also incredibly kind & attentive, & were accommodating of my fiancée's gluten allergy. Our drinks (beer, wine, & cocktails) were all exceptional as well. A dinner we will not forget!
I came into Garde Manger extremely excited. Chuck Hughes is undeniably a talented chef, & expectations were high given the restaurant's reputation. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to it.
We opted for the $295 tasting menu per person & asked the bartender to curate a cocktail & wine pairing alongside it. For the price point which was well over $500 per person all in, the meal lacked focus & cohesion. None of the dishes truly stood out or felt memorable. The menu skewed surprisingly bland & safe, especially considering the bold, flavor driven cooking Chuck Hughes is known for.
The pairing felt sloppy & disconnected from the food, more like an afterthought than a considered progression that elevated the courses. At this level of dining, execution & intent matter just as much as ingredients & that consistency wasn't there.
This isn't bad food by any means, but it is wildly overpriced for the experience delivered. Given the cost, I expected sharper flavors, clearer vision, & a more polished overall experience
Once in your life, you need to indulge in this experience. We took the chef menu level 4. Worth every dollar. The coffee cake to finish it off. No words can accurately describe how delicious everything was.
After last night this became my favorite restaurant...EVER!
We got the'basic chef tasting menu'. There is NOTHING there that I would skeep. Every round was paired & timed perfectly. The host was gracious, the waiters were amazing.
I hope to go back soon.
What would happen if they rebooted Le Bernardin, kept the food quality & preparation but threw out the (at times stifling) formality? Turns out they did: Garde Manger is one of the best seafood meals I've had in my life. Hell, it's one of the best meals I've had period. From the not-the-same-old seafood tower through all of the creative, multi-flavored & stunningly prepared courses that followed. & the service is the best I've ever had anywhere -- including in three Michelin-starred restaurants. These people love their jobs, love food & treat the diners like pals in a way that feels really genuine. It's like dining at a well-organized party catered by a team of the world's best chefs. How this place doesn't have at least one Michelin star utterly baffles me.
We had dinner here while visiting in town for my birthday. This was a very good choice indeed. Cooking recipes from chef Hughes at home, was interested in seeing where it was coming from & how it was made in house.
We opted for the tasting menu with all the bells & whistles. (Go big or stay home we say). Everything was top notch. The surprise dish for us was a carrot'3 way' side dish. It was absolutely fantastic with a slow cooked carrot purée on the bottom that I want to have every day of my life.
Chef Hughes did come over & talk to us for awhile, which was a great surprise & made the experience for my birthday oh so special.
Thank you to the team at Garde Manger for making it special.
Dinned here for my girlfriend's & I anniversary. What an absolute treat. From incredible food, to friendly & professional service that payed attention to every detail. We took the 4 course chef menue & it did not disappoint. 100% will come back. This is a Montreal gem not to be missed.
Wow wow wow wow. Food was an amazing experience! Get the chef's choice for sure. Service was amazing. Everyone there makes you feel like you're the only one there. Highly recommend.
Merci beaucoup! What a fantastic experience. I ordered the chef's choice & was not disappointed from appetizers to dessert, every single bite was absolutely delicious. The bartender, a young woman, was both professional & impressively knowledgeable about wine & cocktails. The service, ambiance & music top notch. Highly recommended if you only have time for one restaurant in Montreal, make it this one!
My fiancée & I went for a celebration dinner & this was one of our best culinary experiences ever. The chefs table menu is worth it. The care & attention the serving team offers is second to none. They work as a team & are beyond attentive. Our interaction with everyone was personable & extremely pleasant. The creative & artistic approach to the menu was nothing short of perfection. Chuck the Garde Manger was everything we hoped it would be & then some. Worth the 4 hour drive & we will be back.
Garde Manger is a must! My husband & I were fortunate to receive the recommendation to dine at Garde Manger from a chef friend of ours. We did the 5 course chef's menu & the food was plentiful & outstanding. We sat at the back bar with Felix at the helm, seated next to two other couples, all of whom were there also celebrating an anniversary, cheers! Nico managed music from the front of house & the whole experience was top notch. Will definitely be returning.
What an experience. Firstly a shout out to whomever hires the staff. We interacted with 4 different people & all were authentically friendly & very competent. Water was always full & napkins folded if we stepped away from the table. I tried folding my napkin before I got up & they recognized the rubbish job I did & refolded it. Jordon took care of us but there was a team working with him to ensure we had the best experience.
We had the 5 course chef menu & were impressed with the selection with each course. The seafood plate was amazing & included a half lobster. Each course had a sampling of 3 different dishes which were all excellent.
Jordan was happy to explain the dishes when we had questions & made sure we had the best experience. Highly recommend!
Truly incredible meal. We went for the $125 chef's tasting + snow crab toast & were not left wanting in any way. Very patient/communicative server with great wine pairing suggestions. Support staff were also lovely & really enjoyed the energy of the chefs in the open kitchen, who openly celebrated each time we bought them a round of drinks. Probably the freshest seafood I've had in my life? I'll definitely be thinking about this meal for a long time!
It was so nice, we did it twice!!!! Celebrating our wedding anniversary at our fav spot in Montreal!!! Chef & the whole gang were very friendly & welcoming….the food was amazing!!
I've been going each year for my birthday, but this was the best yet. The lovely bartender Emma recommended the snow crab along with my chef's menu, & I'm happy I followed it. The drinks were amazing, the service impeccable, & the food unbelievable. Please try the snow crab!!
Our 3rd time return after covid. Gone with their Chef Menu $120 per person & has been consistently tasty & creative. Good customer service & money worth definitely. Was honoured to be greeted by Chef Chuck making sure we have a positive experience & spending quality time with us.
Revisited in August 2025. Food is consistently great. Always look forward for their new creativity & that is why we are back. Thanks for your wonderful meal 🍽?
Got the chef's menu & the experience is immaculate. I loved the demi glace sauce in the duck breast course. Lobsters came with a brown butter dipping that was a nice touch too.
I heard about this place. Booked a table months in advance. We ordered chef's tasting menu, it was the beat food I ever had...it didn't disappear...so yummy 😋. The meal ends with wonderful chocolate dessert.
