Review Summary

Reviews describe Furley as a cozy, welcoming spot with excellent coffee, breads and pastries, and a standout butcher counter, plus a thoughtful takeout selection and a varied wine and meat range. The croissant is often singled out as outstanding, and a wide mix of baked goods and savory items, including Reuben and cheese and ham sandwiches, are praised for freshness and flavor. The front terrace is dog friendly and the atmosphere feels warm even when busy, with staff described as friendly and attentive. A note about pastries being stale appears early in the feedback, but later visits are described as delicious and reliable, reinforcing the sense of consistent quality. Overall, Furley is hailed as a local gem offering great value, high quality ingredients, and thoughtful service that encourages repeat visits for quick bites, takeout, or a dine in experience.

Coffee & pastries are excellent. Unfortunately they serve stale pastries. This obviously makes them easy money. But it's not a way to keep customers.

Update. Maybe I was a little rush to judgement. Anyway. Today I came back. & had the most delicious cheese & ham sandwich I've ever eaten. Will be back.

Five stars for Furley?

Nope. Seven.

Furley defies description. I've traveled over 4 million miles & have had at least some of the best food in the world. Absolute food heavens like Lyon, Prague, Jakarta, Mexico City, Chengdu, Stockholm. Yet I've rarely come across a place that truly excels at everything they do, as most of the best-known food spots excel & one thing & are pretty good at the rest.

Baked goods? Check. From sweet to savory to a mix of both, every day (especially weekends), Furley hits it out of the park. From seriously authentic sausage rolls to Quebec soul food like sugar pie, the absurdly talented team in the Furley kitchen never, ever misses. The bread is fantastic too.

The butcher counter? World-class. From PEI Denver steaks to stunning cod to a sublime flattened marinated whole chicken, the meat & fish here are absolutely can't miss.

& while everything I've mentioned is amazing, the Academy Award goes to Luka & the to-go food. Mushroom pie, cod pie, the best eggs in the province, shrimp salad, fresh chicken schnitzel, & amazing made-to-order sandwiches, if there were Michelin stars for carry-out, Furley would be covered in them.

But best part of Furley is the people. Everyone is wonderful. So kind & friendly. They genuinely love what they do &-especially Teá & the team helping everyone at the front-deeply understand the levels of nuance involved in being a really welcoming host. It's always a warm place; no matter how busy, everyone gets a smile.

What did I miss? Really solid coffee (outstanding Americano), the homemade granola is ridiculous, & the small but wow selection of special little things (cans of wildly flavorful tuna belly from Spain, perfect tourney beef jerky, & YES the dog cookies) are must-haves.

So, Furley is a gem. Absolutely worth a trip from Montréal & if you're driving in between the city & Ottawa, it's like 8 minutes out of your way & 100% worth it.
