The atmosphere was good, but unfortunately the food was extremely disappointing & not worth the money. The chips were absolutely awful - greasy, shrivelled, tasteless & seemed to have been refried. The Philly poutine was equally disappointing: bland, greasy & lacking in flavour.
Overall, I was very disappointed with the food & would definitely not recommend eating here. To make matters worse, the waitress also made a point of demanding a tip, which left an even worse impression.
I wouldnt come back. Honestly super fatty & not in the good sense. We tried the'most recommended items' the smoked ham & the philly sandwich. Honestly the philly tasted nthg but oil & fat, the meat quality is not good & it lacked taste. The smoked ham was a disappointment as it had no taste & a bad smell. The quality of the food is not good. For the price of it id expect smthg better. & even if it s street food, i dnt mind the fat if it was worth it. Also staff not very friendly. Like i sat for 10 min no one came i had to go to them, they asked me hw did i find the food i told them nt that good & they gave me a reaction as if well, your loss. While with other tables they know how to host.
Franklin's was my very first stop right after landing in Montreal, & it set a fantastic tone for the trip. I ordered the classic smoked meat sandwich along with the chicken poutine. Both were delicious, though the smoked meat sandwich was easily the star of the show-perfectly spiced, tender, & an absolute must-try. The atmosphere here is undeniably lively & somewhat rowdy, making it clear right away that this is a very casual spot. Despite the constant rush, the employees were wonderfully attentive, welcoming, & made sure everyone was taken care of. The only reason I am holding back a full five-star rating comes down to the temperature inside. It was extremely hot & uncomfortable during my visit. Their setup involves keeping the doors wide open-partly to draw in passersby from the street & to connect with their small outdoor seating area. However, the ceiling fans inside provided virtually no relief or airflow, & with no AC running, sitting indoors felt stifling. Other than the heat, it was a memorable meal. I would still highly recommend stopping by-just be prepared that if you visit on a warm day, it might get uncomfortable inside. Get the smoked meat sandwich & you will not be disappointed!
Awful food. The fries were burnt to a crisp. The nachos were basic & bland. Our burgers were alright but very basic. Almost McDonald's style. The service was pleasant. Would not recommend.
My friend & I stopped by randomly & sat at the bar. Jeff was super attentive, friendly, & fun! Being tourists, he was helpful with providing us with local attractions. Food & service were great. I would highly recommend!
Si vous recherchez dans le coin une restauration, c'est un bon plan. Le tarif du hot-dog est bien placé. Le goût était là.
Petit bémol sur le tarif de la bière, & que le milkshake n'était pas disponible !
On recommande quand même.
We enjoyed the bar atmosphere. Sitting by the giant open window on a lovely summer evening was delightful. The staff was very friendly, but inattentive despite it maybe being one third full. The smoked meat sandwich was delicious, & raised it up to a 3 star food rating overall. My family did not enjoy the steamed (a Montreal thing) classic hot dogs, nor the undercooked corn dog, & gave their food a 2 out of 5. However, sold a Montreal style hot dog is your thing, it could be good. I still can't recommend the corn dog. The fries were fine. The fried pickles & remoulade were decent, if not remarkable. The fried mozzarella sticks were good & included salsa. It's a strange inclusion if you are American & used to marinara, but it kind of works.
