Foil Gallery offers a unique and sophisticated experience by seamlessly blending contemporary art with a high-quality café environment. Visitors frequently praise the minimalist, industrial aesthetic, the rotating art exhibitions, and the distinct, pleasant fragrance that greets guests upon arrival. Many appreciate the creative and delicious drink menu, particularly the matcha lattes and seasonal specialties, which are often described as high-quality and refreshing. The dog-friendly policy and the presence of thoughtful design elements, such as classic cars and carefully curated decor, contribute to a memorable and stylish atmosphere. While some visitors find the price point and tipping expectations to be on the higher side, many feel the immersive artistic experience and the welcoming nature of the space make it a standout destination in the city for those looking to enjoy coffee in a modern, inspirational setting.
The café had a really interesting & unique atmosphere. The space itself was stylish, cozy, & definitely had its own character.
However, one thing that made me feel a little uncomfortable was the experience I had while taking photos with my phone. I noticed some pretty intense looks from people around me, even though I wasn't doing anything unusual or disruptive. It made me feel a bit self-conscious & less comfortable than I expected.
That said, the café itself has a very attractive & distinctive vibe, & the atmosphere is definitely one of the things that makes it stand out.
I visited the FOIL Gallery during my trip to Montreal & really enjoyed the experience. The space is small but thoughtfully curated, which makes it easy to take your time & appreciate each piece without feeling overwhelmed.
The gallery has a modern & creative vibe, with works that feel fresh & interesting. I liked how everything was presented-it all felt intentional & well put together.
They also offer drinks, which was a nice touch. It made the visit feel more relaxed & social, & added to the overall atmosphere while walking through the space.
It's not a huge gallery, but that's part of the charm. It's a nice, quiet stop if you're exploring the city & want to see something a bit different.
I really like the concept & atmosphere of this café - it's unique & visually interesting. However, the menu could definitely be stronger. The seasonal drinks are usually quite limited, even though the quality of the beverages is excellent. When it comes to pastries, it's unfortunately disappointing, especially for a café that focuses solely on drinks. A bit more variety in pastries would make a big difference.
The weakest point, though, is usually the staff. They're not particularly friendly or customer-oriented, & there's always this slightly heavy, unwelcoming vibe - even though the team has changed several times, the attitude somehow remains the same, which almost feels intentional. The interior can look beautiful at times, especially with the vintage Porsches on display, but other times it feels a bit too empty.
If you're looking for a contemporary art gallery/café with true Brooklyn vibes, I've got just the spot for you: Foil Gallery.
Between Mile End & Little Italy, this raw industrial space mixes art, café & bar. Founded by FVCKRENDER & Jo-Anie Charland, it's where Montreal's creative energy comes alive.
Foil - Montreal
Stopped by Foil & had their Peaches & Cream Iced Latte - absolutely incredible. Perfectly balanced sweetness, creamy texture, & just the right hint of peach that made it refreshing without overpowering the coffee.
The vibe of the space is equally impressive: minimal, bright, & stylish - complete with art on the walls & even a classic green Porsche on display, which made the experience feel unique & memorable. The pastries were fresh & paired perfectly with the drink.
Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to. Highly recommend for both coffee lovers & anyone looking for a café with character.
The vibe at this location is off the charts. Minimalist but inspiring. So easy to stroll in, grab a beverage & sit & read or write or chat with a friend. The service was second to none with easy intros & everyone sharing about the location. The immersive space was very cool - never seen anything like that in Montreal & I will head back for sure.
