Opinions of Duc de Lorraine describe a refined Parisian vibe with an impressive array of pastries and desserts that many reviewers call among the best in Montreal, from oversized croissants to intricate trompe l'oeil creations and a tarte au citron that draws rave comments. The bakery and cafe blend an elegant, cozy atmosphere near Oratoire Saint Joseph with consistently attentive, friendly service that makes guests feel welcome whether celebrating a birthday, enjoying a luxurious brunch, or stopping in for pastry and coffee. The food and desserts are praised for quality and presentation, and the overall experience is often described as charming, polished, and memorable, with a sense that the place truly delivers on its reputation. While prices are frequently noted as high and some guests mention long waits or moments of uneven service, many reviewers feel the combination of flavor, artistry, and service justifies the cost and invites return visits for special occasions or a refined treat.

Very nice experience. Service was very good. Food is on the pricey side but quality is very fresh & tasty. Price of coffees is a bit exaggerated, but the coffee was good.
May be I expect too much, so turn out its not as good as I thought. The mango & lime tart alittle too sweet for me. Miss order, need to follow up. Wait quite long for the desserts to come. Also missed my wine order, but since we already waited a long time for desserts, we don't have the time to wait more. As a tourist, still got more places to go. However, if somehow you are nearby, still recomment to go take alook, then decide if you want to try or not!
We were very sorry that we did not have a very good experience here. The dining room lacked ambience & the food was at best mediocre. Very expensive for what you received. Wanted to like it but ended up being a very negative experience. The service was very good but that's all.

Overall, Duc de Lorraine is a beautiful place - perfect if you're celebrating a birthday, special occasion, or big milestone. The atmosphere is elegant & charming, & it definitely feels like a treat. That said, be prepared to spend some money, because it is very expensive.
If you're just looking to grab a quick breakfast or brunch, I wouldn't recommend it - the prices don't really match a casual meal. We only had a few items, & the bill came to over $150. If I had to rate my meal, I'd give it a 6/10. The desserts were delicious but quite sweet, & overall I found some of the items to be overpriced.
It's definitely more of an experience - something to try once or twice if you enjoy upscale dining. One thing I loved is its location; it's within walking distance of Oratoire Saint-Joseph, which makes for a lovely outing. Just note that parking isn't the best, so walking or taking the metro might be easier.

Was very disappointed in the food. Although the croissants were great- green slop was used instead of avocados on my very expensive avocado toast. It has no taste & the texture was terrible.
