Opinions of Duc de Lorraine describe a refined Parisian vibe with an impressive array of pastries and desserts that many reviewers call among the best in Montreal, from oversized croissants to intricate trompe l'oeil creations and a tarte au citron that draws rave comments. The bakery and cafe blend an elegant, cozy atmosphere near Oratoire Saint Joseph with consistently attentive, friendly service that makes guests feel welcome whether celebrating a birthday, enjoying a luxurious brunch, or stopping in for pastry and coffee. The food and desserts are praised for quality and presentation, and the overall experience is often described as charming, polished, and memorable, with a sense that the place truly delivers on its reputation. While prices are frequently noted as high and some guests mention long waits or moments of uneven service, many reviewers feel the combination of flavor, artistry, and service justifies the cost and invites return visits for special occasions or a refined treat.
I have come here several times & I'm extremely disappointed with the service. The staff at the cash usually acts like they have something better to do, & look irritated.
The pastries are extremely overrated, & extremely overpriced for what it is. There are other bakeries, just a few steps away that have much better service, & much better food, for a better price point.
This place was amazing. It was one of our favourite moments in Montreal. We came in to celebrate a birthday & from the moment we walked in the place is beautiful. The staff are so welcoming & nice they really looked after us.
We had an amazing breakfast with mimosas, fresh beautiful fruit, crêpes, etc.
The best part for us was our server Rafa he went above & beyond to look after us & was incredibly kind to our toddler. Even bringing her a small macaroon dessert.
Thank you everyone at this wonderful restaurant for such an amazing time.

Just today I was in this wonderful place, I want to say that the cakes are exceptionally good, but I want to say that when the bill came you were forced to leave a tip... I knew that only if you want to leave a tip, leave it if not, but the people who work in this place told me that I was forced to do this..
Etant Lorraine... je me devais de visiter cet endroit !
Fantastic experience with friends.
Generally speaking my Dijon burger is not enough Dijon mustard. The meat patty has the blood taste which I don't like. I normally have medium rare steak, however that blood taste from minced beef is not pleasant & especially it is a $40 burger.
However my friend has this Benedictine over fillet Mignon is very good.
The dessert is must have! We had the chocolate caramel croissant & the mouse rocher. The crispy croissant along with caramel is fantastic. the mouse rocher is a bit sweet, but perfect when matched with an Americano.
The waitress & waited are very polite
However the hostess are ok.
The dining area is a bit small which is crowded.
Will come back for amazing dessert!
The whole experience from the moment we walked in & were warmly greeted, to the food & service, all fantastic. My only (minor) complaint is their birthday ritual... it's loud, disruptive, & doesn't fit the chill ambiance of a lovely Sunday brunch.
We tried their pastry & drinks, the quality of the pastry was one of the best in town & the service was exceptional. I have to say the only downside was the prices, I think 13$ for a latte is expensive.
