Duc de Lorraine is widely recognized for its elegant Parisian atmosphere, stunning pastry displays, and prime location near the Oratoire Saint Joseph. Many patrons enjoy the high-quality desserts, particularly the trompe l'oeil pastries, croissants, and unique cakes, often describing them as visually impressive and delicious. The service frequently stands out, with numerous guests commending the attentive, professional, and welcoming nature of the staff. While the experience is often highlighted as a highlight of visiting Montreal, some feedback notes that the pricing is quite high for the portions provided. While the majority of guests have a wonderful experience, inconsistent service and occasional issues with food temperature or preparation have been mentioned by some. Overall, it remains a popular choice for celebrations and special occasions where guests are looking for a refined, authentic atmosphere.
I am a regular here & have tried most of the more substantial pastries on the menu. Coffee is amazing too. It's small but very comfy. Not a place to go when you are watching calories. My favourites: the almond croissant (heart attack on a plate), the Duc de Lorraine pizza, the tart with fruits, & the collection of its cheeses. Don't forget to pick up a delicious loaf of French style bread to take home with you!
I am a French food snob & am often disappointed with the Montreals' French restaurants & bakeries. I was happily surprised to find Duc De Lorraine to have croissants & pain au chocolates that rival the patisseries en France. I am very excited about this new find in the neighborhood & will certainly be back. C'est formidable.
This is the best of the best! Excellent design, the choice of different croissants are to die for, the tartelettes are simply the best I have had outside of Europe. I have tried many bakeries around Montreal & this is far superior than all. The desserts are heaven, there is not one dessert I have tried that isn't delicious. Go early if you want a baguette, they sell out quickly. The owner & staff are friendly & they treat every single customer as an old friend. They also have accordionist playing live music some evenings. Go & enjoy, you will think you are in France eating at a patisserie.

An amazingly tasty croissant with almonds. I would say this is the tastiest one that I have tried in Montreal & very close to Parisian one... Lattes are well done & fresh & rejuvenating which you can't say about other places. In addition the décor & design, & overall ambience is simply great & on the top of everything you may want from a French pastry. Nice outdoor sitting...
Upscale perfection. If an asteroid was heading toward earth & I had $20 in my pocket, I'd head to Duc de Lorraine. I'd get a delicious sandwich, a few tasty pates, & a couple of their signature croissants, which are like heavenlike pieces ofd delight, & I'd die with a smile on my face.
I've just discovered this bakery & can't rave about it enough! The cakes & tarts are delicious, & the sandwiches are devine! As for savory, I've only tried the quiche lorraine but it was also great & reminded me of the ones I'd get in France. The servers are kind & informative (I'm always asking for suggestions & they haven't let me down yet!). There is not a ton of seating but I've never been there & not been able to find a spot. It's quiet & a nice place to catch up with a friend or just chill with your laptop & a drink. I have a feeling I'm going to be a regular!
WOW!!! I got to say that this is the bakery I will for sure go & get my cakes. I just bought a birthday cake for my dad & honestly everybody at the party loved it. The cake was like heaven in your mouth aka that is a good cake. When I was going to the bakery to check out some cakes & flavors, employees were so nice & patience & helping me out with cakes size & flavors which I like that.
It took me a while to discover it. I also travel to Paris twice a year, which is responsible for my refusal to eat pastries or bread that aren't close to the perfection found there. So, I do know the difference between frozen cardboard filled with chemicals from the really fine stuff.
This bakery is the real deal, & has been my choice for the last couple of years or so, from the time it was owned by the previous owners to the last visit when I indulged in that birthday cake so deliciously described in a previously.
Croissants! Good? No. Great? YES. Crisp, delicate, impossible to eat in the car as it explodes into those flakes that are the mark of really good croissants.
The pates are wonderful, too wonderful! The cakes are tres francais. Light cakes filled with fresh fruit fillings or wonderful, not too sweet chocolate or hazelnut mousse, etc. The frosting, again, is in the French tradition of not being sweet, heavy buttercream (although there's nothing wrong with that!) but instead has a whipped cream/sugar texture that is much lighter. & they are GORGEOUS! I'm always proud to bring something from this bakery to any gathering.
Wow! What an incredible view on summer patio, not aware if there any other places offer such a fabulous experience on outdoor terrace, where you are treated as the one & the only customer & the staff guys are always extremely welcoming & friendly & gently service with a happy smile! Wonderful pastry & tastiest coffee! Try almond croissants!
Duc de Lorraine has an amazing view! Went there to try their croissants & latte, mmm :P, loving it! It is just amazing, food is always fresh. Staff is very helpful, service is just great, food is fresh. Overall is 5 stars, best patisserie in Montreal. Go ahead, try it!
