Food was fantastic & the desserts! We came back the next morning. So many pastry options- our large group tried a variety & enjoyed every single order. For the meal, O had steak & frites- it was delicious! & the shrimp pasta was savory, not over-the-top with sauce, & loved that none of these dishes were too salty like restaurants I've encountered in California. Charli (not sure if I spelled his name correctly), our server, who works at night was fantastic & hilarious! He managed several tables & our large 15 people party well! Our group enjoyed our time very much & had a wonderful, lovely dinner.
Overrated cafe with poor quality desserts & drinks
Stopped by here because of all the great reviews & simply did not understand the hype. The desserts looked unpolished & tasted mediocre. Had the highly recommended mille feuille & the custard had an intense egg taste, whatever the dessert is topped with tasted like a very sugary fondue layer, & it didn't feel like the mille feuille was fresh. The plain croissant & the pain au chocolat were pretty good & would be the only things I'd maybe recommend here. Espresso & americano were awful as the beans were burnt, the price is insane for that kind of quality. Staff were awesome & you can tell they put in a lot of effort to ensure the service is great. However the place was very chaotic as there's no proper guest management/directions, so everyone is trying to figure out how to order takeout & where to go for dine in. Wouldn't bother coming here again, there are so many better french pastry/dessert places in Montreal

Duc de Lorraine is a beautiful Parisian-style pastry shop that offers an amazing selection of high-quality desserts & pastries. We tried a variety including croissants, trompe-l'oeil pastries, & macarons, & everything was visually stunning & delicious.
The almond chocolate croissant was absolutely incredible-soft, smooth, rich, & perfectly chocolaty with a sweet almond flavor that melts in your mouth. The raspberry cheesecake-filled croissant was also very good, with a nice balance of fruity & creamy flavors. The mango trompe-l'oeil pastry was another highlight-creative, fresh, & beautifully presented.
We also tried a selection of macarons, which were tasty & well-made with great texture & flavor variety.
Overall, the quality & presentation are excellent, & the experience feels very premium. The only downside is that the prices are a bit on the expensive side. It would feel even better value if either the portion sizes were slightly larger or the pricing was a bit more affordable.
Still, it's a wonderful place for anyone who loves French pastries & elegant desserts-definitely worth trying at least once.
Disclaimer: too expensive.
Wonderful experience! Extremely welcoming & polite servers, in a great atmosphere. Food was immaculate but also TOOO expensive. Expect bougie service & food.
The pastry is amazing OH MY GOD!
update: after several visits, I can confidently say that though food quality is quite good, same food & pastry quality is offered in other places for fraction of the price.
The pastries at Duc de Lorraine are good, but I found them more impressive in size than in flavor. The croissants are enormous, though not the best you'll find in Montreal, & the trompe l'oeil pastries are creative & enjoyable. What does stand out here is the variety - you won't find quite the same selection at many other bakeries.
That said, in a city known for some of the best pastry chefs, I'd say Duc de Lorraine is solid but not exceptional. I'd recommend it more as a brunch spot or for the overall experience than as the go-to destination for pastries alone.
We bought the New York chocolate pastry & it was so hard to bite!!!! It was hard & not fresh at all, it seems it is from yesterday's batch which was very disappointing. we bought Tiramisu cup as well, which was barely any cake, just full of cream & too sweet. Over all not satisfied at all for $24 for both items.
Very lovely workers. Once you come in, the people behind the counter greets you warmly. I was having trouble choosing which pastry to get since they all looked aesthetically appealing but Jason helped me pick out some. I specifically love the cinnamon roll but the prices are a little hefty for what they are selling.

A beautiful place for spoiling yourself or others. You can take out some delicious French pastry, or eat inside in a beautiful dining area.
We had the elegant Omelette Florentine, a delicately light omelette with spinach & gruyere& tomato, & a delicious & massive Salade Niçoise. For dessert, we've had the Napolitain, Eclair crême Chantlly, & Opéra cake. Their croissants are wonderful too.
Service is of course fantastic, friendly, & attentive. A real treat.
We tried their pastry & drinks, the quality of the pastry was one of the best in town & the service was exceptional. I have to say the only downside was the prices, I think 13$ for a latte is expensive.
I heard French exchange students were saying this place is very authentic, so I went to try their pastry. It's absolutely the best I've ever had, I especially loved their croissant & flan, simple & delicious. They also have another type of pastry with various fillings (e.g., caramel, pistachio, chocolate) also tastes great!
Was Wonderful Love this Place Always Have but now its a whole New Level Exciting The Pastry OMG Bistro the Music Every One that Makes it Happen a Mist Go To See You There…..❤️

MUST TRY This French pastry shop & restaurant is a must try in montreal! The only negative thing I would add & this is why I give it a 4 star rating is because of how slow they are to bring out 3 already made dessert & two coffees! But if you have time to sit & wait, do try this place out!
Came to Duc de Lorraine for brunch. Food was delicious! My sister & I split Avocado toast, a salad, & a croissant that had dulce de leches filling i believe. Our server Claudia was so nice & the staff were super attentive especially when we needed refill on water. Love the outdoor seat area & they have tons of pastry selections inside!
5 stars! My go-to breakfast spot! This beloved Montreal pastry shop & café (since 1952!) never disappoints. Their bakery & pastries are divine, but the real showstopper is their custom birthday cakes , truly exceptional! The combination of traditional charm & mouthwatering treats makes this place truly special. Whether you're celebrating a birthday or just starting your day, this pastry shop is a must-visit destination. Highly recommend. (Photo by @behnooshtz)
