Opinions of Duc de Lorraine describe a refined Parisian vibe with an impressive array of pastries and desserts that many reviewers call among the best in Montreal, from oversized croissants to intricate trompe l'oeil creations and a tarte au citron that draws rave comments. The bakery and cafe blend an elegant, cozy atmosphere near Oratoire Saint Joseph with consistently attentive, friendly service that makes guests feel welcome whether celebrating a birthday, enjoying a luxurious brunch, or stopping in for pastry and coffee. The food and desserts are praised for quality and presentation, and the overall experience is often described as charming, polished, and memorable, with a sense that the place truly delivers on its reputation. While prices are frequently noted as high and some guests mention long waits or moments of uneven service, many reviewers feel the combination of flavor, artistry, and service justifies the cost and invites return visits for special occasions or a refined treat.
Food was great & wonderful! Only drawback was the wait time for our table. We made a reservation & came early, & only got seated 15 minutes after or reservation… the area to sit in was really cramped(it was only the indoors area). You're seated 1 foot away from the other table, & people will bump you when they walk by. I hit & got hit by so many people & waiters.

I had a great experience having the best onion soup & lemon pie at this Bistro last Good Friday. I've been visiting for 20 years & I never hesitate to recommending them! It is an iconic place in Montreal & I was really touched when one of the owners came to my table & thank me for being a loyal client . She showed me appreciation & she just made my day with this gesture . Nice wine selection & beautiful decor ! Thank you !
service & coffee top notch but the pastries were lower than expected
they were sweeter than expected not every thing looked fresh! the cake wasn't as sweet & tasted good.

The pastries themselves are amazing (I've tried the chocolatines + various small cakes & treats) & I can see why the specialty & artistic pieces are priced so high, however the baked good staples of croissants/chocolatines/basic cakes, etc are NOT worth the high price tag this place charges. I would only say these are worth it as a nice gift to others, or if you get them on a discount such as through Too Good to Go.
Sajjad's service is even more fantastic than the food if possible!!! I come often here because of vibes, views, service & the food!! Worth every penny!!!!
Thank you Sajjad & Duc de Lorraine!
Nice cozy restaurant but the heating in winter is way too high that at some point we were feeling dizzy. Food was good & so was the dessert but nothing exceptional.
However for such a restaurant the quality of the service is really bad.
I think the owner needs to get properly trained staff who can also understand English. The waiters seem confused all the time & even we changed to French language they seem to have difficulty understanding. The menu is not a big one & yet they made mistake in our order. & I don't understand why it took them forever to bring the dessert (which are already displayed next door) & again they made mistake in the order.
For spending over $350 I would expect much better service from that restaurant.
Overall bit of a disappointment!
