Saw this place all over social media. It is very beautiful & Instagram worthy. However the coffee was vert disappointing & the food was not worth the high prices.
Dandy has been on my list forever, & with the constant lineups & hype around it, I was really looking forward to finally trying it. We went on a Monday at 10 a.m. & still had to wait in line, which is kind of crazy.
The space is cute & the service was good. We ordered the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich, ricotta pancakes, fingerling potatoes, & the Endless Summer breakfast.
The fried chicken sandwich had a really nice brioche bun & decent slaw, but the chicken kept sliding out & overall I've definitely had better fried chicken sandwiches. The fingerling potatoes were easily the highlight - fantastic, especially with the aioli. The bacon could've been cooked a little more for my taste.
The ricotta pancakes were good, but again, I've had better. I did LOVE the brown sugar maple syrup though. The Endless Summer breakfast was alright, but nothing really stood out.
Overall, the food was decent, the vibes were cute, & the service was solid - but nothing blew me away enough to understand the amount of hype or the constant lineups. I'm glad I finally tried it, but I wouldn't wait around for it again.
I feel like one racist waiter completely ruined our entire experience 👎👎🤮
I came from Japan, & this was my first time visiting Montreal with a friend who lives in Canada. I had been genuinely excited to eat at this well-known restaurant. I never imagined that one waiter's behavior would leave such a disgusting impression on what was supposed to be a special experience.
After waiting for about 15 minutes, we were seated on the terrace. The man who welcomed us was polite & considerate. He explained that our table might get some sun & told us that if it became uncomfortable, he could move us inside. We appreciated that & agreed.
Then came the white male waiter.
There was originally a parasol positioned on our side of the terrace. Even with it there, we were already getting quite a bit of direct sunlight. Yet, for absolutely no apparent reason & without saying a single word to us, this waiter deliberately moved the parasol away from our table & over to the table next to us.
The ridiculous part? The neighboring table was ALREADY in the shade & noticeably cooler.
So while they already had shade, he took the parasol away from us & left us sitting directly under the sun.
It was so strange & blatant that even the woman sitting at the neighboring table looked confused & kept looking over at us. When she was leaving, she actually asked us,'Why did that waiter move the parasol over to our side?'
So no, this was not something we imagined. It was not a misunderstanding. Another customer literally noticed it too & was confused enough to say something to us about it.
& apparently even the absolute basics of being a waiter were too much to expect from him. No water when we arrived. No greeting. No smile. No basic courtesy whatsoever.
Nothing.
I have no idea what exactly this man disliked about us, but his behavior toward us was so noticeably different, deliberate, & hostile that it felt blatantly racist.
If you have some kind of problem with Asian customers, at least have the courage to admit it instead of expressing it through pathetic little acts like deliberately taking shade away from two customers sitting in the sun.
His behavior was petty, immature, disrespectful, & completely unacceptable. Frankly, someone who treats international customers this way has no business working in hospitality, let alone at a popular restaurant in a major tourist city like Montreal.
I traveled all the way from Japan & was incredibly excited to experience Montreal for the first time. Instead, one racist waiter managed to leave such a bitter impression that it completely changed my mood that day.
The food itself was very good.
Unfortunately, good food does not make up for racist treatment.
So thank you to this waiter for such a wonderful demonstration of how Asian tourists can apparently be treated differently.
I certainly did not travel all the way from Japan to experience this kind of racism in Montreal.
& to the racist waiter: if you hate serving Asian customers that much, find another job.
& maybe you shouldn't be serving matcha lattes🍵 either. I'm sure you don't eat sushi either :)
The salmon toast was surprisingly filling, & I was pleasantly surprised by how generous the portion of salmon was, hidden under the greens-it was definitely a nice touch. The matcha latte, however, wasn't the best, so I'd recommend trying another drink instead.
Food is magnificent. I've tried their'big breakfast', pancake, & the crispy chicken burger. The latter was my favorite, crispy on the outside, VERY tender chicken & generous portion. Getting the bill makes me question if the price really worth the hype though.
2e groupe dans la file d'attente à l'ouverture, nous avons rapidement été installés. Une fois la commande prise, les boissons sont arrivées rapidement mais nous avons attendus très longtemps pour nos plats, qui étaient tout de même très bons. Le service n'était pas d'une extrême amabilité. Pour le rapport qualité/prix, je pense que l'on peut trouver mieux en ville.
Tres bien accueilli, portion genereuse jai bien aime la salade au poulet. Toujours bon signe quand il y a une file d attente pour entrer & ce un lundi 12h30.
Alors si tu veux un déjeuner comme insta vas s'y. Mais pour être honnête c'est pas si top que ça. Des crêpes à 21$ pis un ajout de 5,50$ pour des fraises alors que c'est la saison c'est ridicule. Toute les personnes autour de moi ont pris des trucs qui semble très ordinaire. Mon copain a pris un plat avec du poulet mais c'est arriver à être une salade de chou géante. Je ne vais ps revenir…
