Dandy operates as a sophisticated bistro that emphasizes the intersection of artisanal culinary techniques and market-driven ingredients. The interior design reflects an industrial aesthetic characterized by high ceilings and expansive windows that illuminate the open dining area. Menu offerings focus on elevated classic dishes, featuring thick-cut sourdough toasts topped with seasonal produce and house-made ricotta. The kitchen consistently utilizes fresh, locally sourced components to construct balanced plates that favor structural simplicity over complex plating. Patrons experience a lively atmosphere where the focus remains strictly on the quality of the prepared food and the functionality of the workspace. This establishment balances the casual nature of a market-inspired café with the technical precision of a focused bistro kitchen. Every element, from the beverage selection to the curated seasonal vegetables, demonstrates a commitment to ingredient-led preparation methods.
Dandy is a popular brunch destination in Old Montreal known for its vibrant atmosphere and signature ricotta pancakes, which many patrons consider a highlight of their visit. While the restaurant frequently draws long lines, guests often find the wait worthwhile due to the fresh, flavorful menu items like the fried chicken sandwich and the summer breakfast. The service is widely described as friendly, efficient, and attentive, though some diners note that the restaurant can be loud and the seating somewhat cramped. While a few visitors feel the pricing is high for the portions or experience, the overall consensus points to a memorable, high-quality meal that keeps people returning for future trips to the city.
Amazing food. I had a great cappuccino, the everyday breakfast was interesting & comforting with a perfectly cooked egg. When you order the bacon you get 4 large slices. Definitely get there before opening if you have a large group as the line up is definitely well deserved!
This might have been one of the best cappuccinos I've had, not to mention the service being exceptionally friendly & accommodating! I'm always so impressed when incredibly well-dressed staff members can be so genuine & kind even when there's a lineup down the block. This place is amazing & has a beautiful atmosphere
Worth the line, worth the hype. Good on every level. Don't leave without trying the pancakes. The size of the chicken sandwich? Stacking 2 fried thighs & an egg is diabolical. The potatoes would have disappeared if we weren't so full. The buttery sausage roll with that honey mustard was a perfect bite. The service was so attentive my water cup was full for every sip, even though I was drinking a great IPA. My family loved their drinks. Now it's on the must-go list for every future Montreal visit.

Dandy is a stylish & welcoming café in Montreal that offers a great combination of good food, quality coffee, & a relaxed atmosphere. Located in Old Montreal, it's the kind of place that feels effortlessly cool - a spot where you can enjoy a slow morning, meet friends, or take a break while exploring the city.
The atmosphere is one of the biggest highlights. The space has a modern yet cozy feel, with thoughtful details that make it feel comfortable & inviting. It has that perfect Montreal café vibe - creative, laid-back, & full of character. It's a great place to sit, enjoy your surroundings, & take in the energy of the neighbourhood.
The food was fresh, well prepared, & delicious. The menu has a nice variety of options, & everything feels carefully made rather than just a quick café offering. The coffee was also excellent & paired well with the meal. The presentation was beautiful, & you can tell there is attention to detail in what they serve.
The staff were friendly & helpful, adding to the overall positive experience. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is that it can get quite busy, & depending on the time of day, finding a seat may be a challenge. It's also a little more of a premium café experience, so it may not be the most budget-friendly option for everyone.
Overall, Dandy is a wonderful Montreal café with great food, great coffee, & a beautiful atmosphere. It's definitely worth visiting if you're exploring Old Montreal & looking for a place with style & personality.
Difficult to get in due to huge lines but fantastic food. Menu is simplistic but a few items on there are quite amazing.
Service was excellent & really enjoyed our later-than-usual-breakfast.
Tables are a bit too close to each other but it's manageable.
Highly recommended to at least try it while in Montreal 🤗
Pas mal mais je m'attendais à mieux. Tout est supplément. Le poulet était mal cuit & je préfère le blanc de poulet, il y avait un arrière goût déplaisant.
Le chai latté avait un goût d'eau à la cannelle.
We loved Dandy so much the first time we came during our long weekend in Montreal that we came back the very next day! We made sure to get there right when it opened so we didn't have to wait in line. The first day we both got the endless summer breakfast, which was fantastic & had great flavors & textures. I saw people get the pancakes & knew I wanted to get those the next day, so we can back & ordered the pancakes on top of the fried chicken sandwich & the grilled halloumi sandwich (it was a lot of food, but we ate it all & it was SO WORTH IT!). What really makes each dish stand out is the amazing bread (the sourdough & focaccia are to die for) & high quality/fresh ingredients. The service is a bit slow at times, & there is a longer wait for food than at some places, but the food is worth it. We would recommend this place to anyone for brunch!
