While my husband & I were vacationing in Montreal, we were fortunate on two occasions to get into the 25 seat speakeasy The Cloakroom. We had read about this place before leaving the states. It sure didn't disappoint on both occasions.
There is no cocktail menu. They ask you about your preferences & create a masterpiece for you.
From our two experiences we can't say enough good things about the atmosphere, cocktails & the staff. Everyone is so friendly, especially if you sit at the bar.

Hit or miss. Had a few good drinks but nothing that blows you away. The presentation is minimal, mostly consisting of mumbled words in an already busy & loud space. For an establishment that first & foremost should cater to the customer's taste, I've felt rushed to come up with a drink profile, no guidance from the bartender either. When I threw a couple of ideas for a cocktail, the guy just called me out for not making sense. So if you know what you want, you'll probably have fun, but if you come in expecting a relaxed curated experience, this is not it.

Lieu tres original & tres beau. Serveurs au top. Il n'y a pas de menu donc vous choisissez ce que vous souhaitez. En revanche, très decevant d'avoir vu le barman mettre du gin bombay pour un cocktail a 30 dollars (taxes & tips inclus). A ce prix, j'esperais voir un gin de meilleur qualitéVoir plus

A hidden gen in the heart of Montréal. Perfectly bilingual staff offering impeccable cocktails, intimate ambiance & top-tier service. We particularily enjoyed chatting with other cocktail lovers sitting around us! The only hiccup we encountered was that we noticed someone had taken our brand new umbrella from the entrance once we departed. Something to keep in mind.Voir plus

Cloakroom was such a great experience. Each drink is made personally from scratch after chatting with the bartender about what you like, so every cocktail feels like a fun surprise. The drinks were creative & delicious. It's a small place & can be hard to get into, but totally worth it. The bar itself looks amazing & the atmosphere is top-notch. No menu. You simply tell them what you like & they have a decision tree about what drink to make.
Through talking with the bartender, I learned of a couple new drink ideas.

The drinks were fantastic, the atmosphere certainly fit the vibe, & the speakeasy nature was certainly nailed.
However, the drinks were outrageously expensive. There's not a world in which these drinks are worth more than $30 each. Take that in for a second, $30 EACH. I'm sorry, but that's a straight up scam.Voir plus

Atmosphere: 9/10
Tucked behind a tailor shop in Montreal's Golden Square Mile, this speakeasy delivers an upscale & intimate experience. The small mirrored room cleverly feels larger than it is, anchored by an impressive backbar & a mix of bar stools & rear tables. The suit tailor-speakeasy concept places this bar in the same league as Dandy Room (Beijing) & Taylor Adam (Singapore). The overall layout even evokes Opium BKK in Bangkok. Music sits at a perfect volume for conversation.

Recommendation: Bartender's Choice
There is no menu; cocktails are crafted based on guest preferences. The bartenders excel at translating flavor requests into perfectly balanced drinks. High-quality glassware & coasters are used, though presentations are minimalistic, often without garnish. A welcome drink is offered upon arrival.
Service: 9/10
Water is served on arrival, & the team is attentive & friendly. Coat service is provided. Prices are slightly above average for Montreal, but the personalized service justifies the cost.Voir plus

We waited around 20-30 mins on a saturday night. It is a very cool atmosphere inside with only 25 person capacity, cool music & not too loud. They ask about your taste & favorite flavors to bring a customized cocktail. We werent very impressed but overall not bad. Recommend this place for 1 round of drinks!Voir plus
