While my husband & I were vacationing in Montreal, we were fortunate on two occasions to get into the 25 seat speakeasy The Cloakroom. We had read about this place before leaving the states. It sure didn't disappoint on both occasions.
There is no cocktail menu. They ask you about your preferences & create a masterpiece for you.
From our two experiences we can't say enough good things about the atmosphere, cocktails & the staff. Everyone is so friendly, especially if you sit at the bar.
Thank you Hugo, Jack, Maximilian & Vincent for two wonderful nights.View more
LOVED IT !
Perfect speakeasy vibe.
Love the no menu concept where you can just let yourself be guided by the very talented team.
The cocktails both n/a & spirited were sooo good !!!View more
The drinks were fantastic, the atmosphere certainly fit the vibe, & the speakeasy nature was certainly nailed.
However, the drinks were outrageously expensive. There's not a world in which these drinks are worth more than $30 each. Take that in for a second, $30 EACH. I'm sorry, but that's a straight up scam.View more
Atmosphere: 9/10
Tucked behind a tailor shop in Montreal's Golden Square Mile, this speakeasy delivers an upscale & intimate experience. The small mirrored room cleverly feels larger than it is, anchored by an impressive backbar & a mix of bar stools & rear tables. The suit tailor-speakeasy concept places this bar in the same league as Dandy Room (Beijing) & Taylor Adam (Singapore). The overall layout even evokes Opium BKK in Bangkok. Music sits at a perfect volume for conversation.

Recommendation: Bartender's Choice
There is no menu; cocktails are crafted based on guest preferences. The bartenders excel at translating flavor requests into perfectly balanced drinks. High-quality glassware & coasters are used, though presentations are minimalistic, often without garnish. A welcome drink is offered upon arrival.
Service: 9/10
Water is served on arrival, & the team is attentive & friendly. Coat service is provided. Prices are slightly above average for Montreal, but the personalized service justifies the cost.View more
A fabulous speakeasy. Not pretentious but still really well done & well executedView more
Great speakeasy spot for a premium drink in Montreal. Unique cocktails catered to your individual taste. No drink menus. No food. Small, dark & lively. Sit at the bar to witness the expertise.View more
Drinks are among the best drinks I've ever had. Classical speakeasy in a great location. No drink menu they'll ask you questions to customize a drink for you.View more
Intimate, oak-paneled speakeasy vibe, located behind a men's clothing shop. Doorman & bartender were professional & friendly. No menus - you give your desired alcohol & flavor profile & they make you a unique drink. I stuck with mezcal, first a fruity & then a savory direction. Both delicious! Best for small groups & quieter convos - you wouldn't want to get rowdy or loud in here, it's too small : )View more
If you manage to get a seat in this unique speakeasy, you'll enjoy the unique cocktail & amazing atmosphere.View more
Still Great, But Less Personal
Cloakroom Bar remains a top-tier speakeasy in Montreal, offering an intimate & exclusive cocktail experience. The hidden entrance & tiny space add to its charm, making every visit feel special.
The cocktails are still expertly crafted, but the experience feels less personalized than before. Previously, bartenders engaged in a deep conversation to tailor your drink; now, they ask three quick questions & get to work. The quality is still there, but the magic of true customization feels a bit diminished.
Still worth a visit, but longtime fans might notice the difference.View more
One of the best/ or the best Speakeasy in Montreal.
Unique concept with an unparalleled selection of old spirit create a spectacular experience. We had some old Scotch dating from the 2nd Word War.
I recommend for small parties.View more
Très beau speakeasy! Plus ou moins 25 places assises… le meilleur cocktail que j'ai bu de ma vie. Assurément j'y reviendrai. Prévoyez de l'attente! Service impeccable.View more
You arrive to this location & wait in line, there are only 25 seats, & it is first come first serve. You are seated facing the bar which alludes to a "show" but it is crampt & the server / bartender decide what to make for you. A tad expensive for what it is in comparison to other speakeasys.View more
I'm confused. This was a wholly mediocre experience. We waited in line for maybe 20 minutes - friday night around 7pm. Honestly no big deal. Its really easy to find, yes, it is a non-descript door in a building, but as soon as you walk in you see the awards they got on the side of the door. So not that "speakeasy" esq. They take you down a long hallway which opens up into the 25 seater bar. The way it works is you tell them things you like & they make a drink based off that. That being said - it is all riffs off of classic drinks. They maybe talked to us for 10 seconds. I remember saying, I like mezcal, spirit forward drinks & the guy responds with so you like negronis & I was like yes, & before I could say more he started talking to my wife. Yes, I like negronis, but if you're going to do a no menu bar, you need to do more interesting things than a very normal riff on a classic drink. Also, he proceeded to make me a tequila drink instead of mezcal. The one nice thing they did was a have a "welcome" cocktail in a shooter form, I assume it is a rotating cocktail, but it was nice & cinnamon-y. What I will say is that this "gimmick" of a no menu bar is a lot cooler when the drinks are interesting. All around us, people were getting just simple riffs off classic drinks.View more
A true speakeasy experience! You wait in a clothing shop foyer until a bookcase opens & allows you in. Rather than a cocktail list, servers engage in conversation to elicit your presences & build bespoke drinks from base spirits + house amaro as well as their own syrups & herbals. A cocktail connoisseur's cocktail bar.View more
Cocktails weren't as good as last time write was there - they were ok but nothing to right home about. When a speakeasy in Calgary (Charlie' watch repair) blows the cocktails at cloakroom out of the water, it got me thinking ...View more
Another amazing speakeasy in Downtown Montreal! The drinks were incredible & affordable. The inside decor had a great vybe to it! I highly recommend checking this place out!View more
Very cool hidden speakeasy in downtown Montreal. The drinks are original & tasty. Expect approx. 20-25$ per drinksView more
The cloakroom is one of our favorite spots we've been to for cocktails! We love the intimate, speakeasy vibe with quality drinks. There is not a menu here, you just describe things you like & they get creative in making the drink. This place was so good that we actually stopped by twice while we were in town! All of the staff was amazing, shout out to Jay for helping us both nights we were there & creating a great experience for us!View more
One of my favorite speakeasy. That's a small place but the team makes great cocktails tailored to your desire. They are very creative, that's fantastic.View more
