About

ChuChai specializes in sophisticated Thai cuisine rendered entirely plant-based through the creative use of soy, seitan, and fresh vegetables. The menu replicates traditional meat-based textures and flavors, offering items such as crispy mock duck, aromatic red curry, and savory stir-fries infused with authentic spices. This establishment maintains a commitment to replicating iconic dishes while strictly adhering to a vegan philosophy. Diners encounter a variety of plates featuring fresh herbs, coconut milk, and bold chili heat that defines classic regional Thai profiles. The interior provides a relaxed atmosphere suitable for exploring plant-based interpretations of Southeast Asian staples. Every dish demonstrates meticulous preparation, ensuring that each component contributes to a balanced and flavorful experience that challenges conventional perceptions of meat-free eating while delivering substantial, satisfying portions that honor the culinary traditions of Thailand.

Review Summary

ChuChai is widely recognized as a premier destination for vegan Thai cuisine in the city, consistently praised for its flavorful and creative dishes that appeal to both vegans and meat eaters alike. The menu is celebrated for its impressive meat substitutes, particularly the crispy duck, which frequently stands out as a highlight for guests, alongside popular choices like peanut butter dumplings, curries, and unique cocktails. While the vast majority of visitors highlight the attentive, warm, and professional service, the atmospheric patio, and the overall dedication to quality, a small number of diners noted occasional inconsistencies in seasoning or service speed. Ultimately, the restaurant is highly recommended as a must-visit spot that offers an exceptional culinary experience, making it a reliable favorite for locals and travelers seeking authentic, plant-based flavors.

This place is truly the best!

The food is outstanding, the vibes are really good, staff are attentive & the whole place exudes integrity & dedication.

Whether you're dining in (recommended), taking out, or ordering from UberEats (they keep in-store prices, swallowing the fees themselves rather than passing them on to the customer), ChuChai is the best in the city.

10/10 recommend. Once you try it you'll keep coming back.

Elite order:
Peanut butter dumplings
Side of sticky rice for the dumpling sauce
Crispy seaweed
3 flavour beef
Wonton soup
Chili Basil fried rice

We loved our first experience here at this all-vegan restaurant! The food was fantastic! Delicious & nicely presented. & we appreciated the recommendations from the staff! The dumplings in peanut sauce are a must have! We also had the Tom Kai soup with tofu, spicy tofu with eggplant & basil & the crispy'duck'! So delicious!

Good food & friendly service.
We tried the server's recommendations; crispy duck & dumplings with peanut sauce. While they were not exceptional, we enjoyed them.

Very lively restaurant (not very quiet or private) , service was top notch & friendly. I had the peanut butter dumplings & the fried spring rolls - both were delicious & hot, but I had the tofu with peanut sauce, crispy spinach & sticky rice was sub par. The tofu was soggy & flimsy, not enough peanut sauce & crispy spinach was tasteless. For the price per meal, I was definitely not impressed.

Still my favorite Thai place in Montreal, vegan or otherwise. Flavors are on point - the dumpling sauce is some of the best I've had - & the restaurant itself is nice & modern. Good, efficient, friendly service. However, the prices have shot way up & the serving side has gone down (the price for a tiny bowl of fried spinach is unreal). Stick to mains instead of entrees.

My favourite vegan restaurant in montreal. By far the best vegan Thai food you will ever have! Delicious peanut butter dumplings & 3 flavours (imitation) beef. Soy (Imitation) duck with spinach is also delicious! An absolute must try if you haven't been yet!

We got the Thai Princess drink, dumplings in peanut sauce (Kiao satay), the vegan chicken skewers (Gai Satay), the vegan beef in 3 flavor sauce (Neua Sam Rod), the eggplant & vegan shrimp (koung pad makere). I would recommend the Gai Satay & the Neua Sam Rod, it was really flavorful & the vegan beef had a nice crispy texture. I'm personally not a fan of the shrimp texture, which was probably made with konjac jelly. I've been here before & tried the crispy vegan duck & would highly recommend it as well. The ambience is really cozy & chic. The staff is really friendly & explained all the dishes we were curious about. I would visit again!
