Review Summary

Chez Nick comes across in reviews as a long standing, cozy diner with a classic Westmount vibe that feels like a time capsule kept well maintained. The atmosphere is often described as homey and intimate, with vinyl booths and counter seating while the service ranges from brisk and friendly to uneven, with some guests praising a bubbly, efficient staff and others noting mixups or a cup that isn’t refreshed. Food highlights repeatedly cited include the Reuben and club sandwich, the deluxe grilled cheese, French onion soup, and a range of breakfast options with pancakes described as fluffy; the coffee is strong and smooth and portions are generally good value, though a few items feel bland or overpriced. Holiday meals show a traditional, comforting menu with options like a meatball turkey tortiere trio that can be hit or miss. The dining experience is complemented by a nostalgic, slightly upscale street vibe and occasional references to New York style energy, yet the place remains a neighborhood institution where regulars and visitors alike come back for hearty fare and dependable service.

This is a perfect stop for lunch during the midweek when in Westmount. It has a homey atmosphere & friendly, fast service. We had the soup of the day with Reuben sandwiches & sweet potato fries that went down very well!

It was my husband's first time at Chez Nick. I have been there before but many years ago. We we there for lunch today. It was a wonderful experience. Our server was very bubbly & quite funny! We had French Onion soup to start which was delicious. My husband ordered the Chez Nick Club Sandwich & he loved it. I had the Deluxe Grilled Cheese & it was so yummy. Needless to say, we shall return more often!!!

If you're looking to spend your morning surrounded by the quiet hum of Westmount privilege & the scent of generational wealth, Chez Nick is the absolute pinnacle of the Montreal diner experience. I've never felt more like a character in a Mordecai Richler novel while questioning my own tax bracket.
Chez Nick has been around since 1920, & walking in feels like a time capsule-if that time capsule was meticulously maintained & filled with people who own at least three different types of cashmere.
The Coffee: Finally, a diner that doesn't serve brown-tinted water. The coffee is aggressively strong-enough to make you reconsider every life choice you've made since the 90s-yet it manages to be incredibly smooth with absolutely zero bitterness. It's the kind of caffeine kick that makes you feel productive enough to actually read the Financial Post left on the counter.
The Pancakes: I'm convinced these are actually made of edible clouds. They are impossibly fluffy & have a subtle, refined sweetness that makes maple syrup feel like an optional (but mandatory) luxury. I had to hold mine down with a fork just to keep them from drifting toward the ceiling.
The Atmosphere: Perfectly'Westmount.' You get the classic diner vibe with vinyl booths & counter seating, but with the added bonus of hearing neighbors discuss their upcoming trips to the Hamptons.
The Service: Brisk, efficient, & wonderfully unimpressed by whoever you think you are. They've been serving the city for over a century, so don't expect them to be dazzled by your presence-just enjoy your eggs & keep the line moving.
It's the only place in the city where you can pay a premium for a club sandwich & leave feeling like you've made a solid investment in your own happiness. Highly recommend if you enjoy great food & feeling slightly less wealthy than everyone else in the room.

I enjoyed a vegan salad with sautéed veggies in it. It is also nice that you can have breakfast for dinner there. I like their healthier, less salty foods including some sandwiches. I would not bother with the dessert.

I went for lunch with my Grandson who was off school during study week to an'Old Faithful' restaurant that offers lots of comfort food. We were immediately greeted & seated at the counter - our choice & met with a server while we were sitting down. After about 5 minutes of perusing the menu we both decided to try their smoked meat sandwich for a change. It was nice but we kind of were expecting more in the meat. Since Nick's isn't a'Deli' in that sense of the word, we now know to go back to ordering one of their more traditional items. For me, it was more important dining with my grandson for about 45 minutes than the food we were dining on. Still keeping Nick's as a'Go To' place for a quick bite!

Nick's is a Westmounr icon. I used to hang out there weekend nights as a teen. It is much more upscale now. Great brunches. I had a toasted gluten-free sandwich with tuna, alphalpha sprouts, & tomatoe. Excellent. The decaf coffee was very good & the fries were great, made from fresh potatoes. Quebec makes uniquely delicious fries

The sandwich I ordered was very subpar. I can make much better sandwiches at home for a fraction of the cost. Portions are kinda small, too. Not a bad place, but at least per my experience, neither your palette nor appetite will be fulfilled.

The quality of their sandwiches is really good & I suggest to people around to try their sandwiches. I tried their stake & it was okay but not something exceptional.

After my first delivery, I was going to give it 5 stars. But now it is barely 4. My first delivery was for a chicken salad sandwich on kimmel & it was great. I also order the vegetarian sandwich & it was very pleasant: light & healthy. Today, I got the BLT which was dry & had no mayo (I added my own); it was OK but not great. I also got the clam chowder which was awful. Almost all potato & barely any taste of clam (at 13$). I still think their sandwiches have potential; will try again.
