Chez Lévêque is a true Montreal institution that has been keeping the spirit of the great French brasseries alive for over 50 years. Located on Laurier Boulevard, the restaurant charms with its classic décor, warm atmosphere, and authentic French cuisine.
Here you'll find classic brasserie dishes, prepared with care and respect for tradition, in a convivial and elegant setting.
On sunny days, its iconic terrace becomes one of Montreal's most popular spots—a veritable stage on Laurier Boulevard, where elegance, vibrancy, and the French art of living come together.
At Chez Lévêque, it's all about the pleasure of fine dining, timeless and distinctly Montreal.
Overall, reviews describe Chez Lévêque as a classic French bistro in Montreal with warm, attentive service and a genuinely French atmosphere, offering a varied menu of well prepared classics, house made charcuterie, and a strong wine list at reasonable prices; diners praise the quality and consistency of many dishes, the friendly portions, and the comfortable, often convivial ambiance, while several notes mention occasional misses on certain dishes, moments of crowding or noise, and some concerns about value or service during busy times, but most agree it remains a reliable, beloved option worth returning to.
With the exception of one server (Marie) on the upper level I would rate this place at least a 5. So disappointed that we were not accommodated with English menus but only upon request. She refused to speak in English to us what so ever. Not even trying & we know 100% she could. A member of our 3some is French & she would only look & speak to him. So humiliating & frustrating at best. I am from Montreal & tried my best, she totally refused. We requested an English server & there were many. All were very pleasant but she continued to be our main server unfortunately. I would not return to this establishment knowing this behaviour towards customers was permitted. Our bill was over $325.00 & tipping was only given for the other servers. She would not have been rewarded for such rude & disrespectful behaviour otherwise. The chef was fantastic The Dover Sole Meunière was the best we've had. We made the best of the power outage although someone had stolen our umbrella from the coat room. Seriously people!
Our party of seven had a wonderful night out & excellent dinner at Che Levesque. Most of the party had Côté de boeuf. They reported it was fantastic, many said they thought the peppercorn sauce was one of the best they had tasted. People also liked the sides. I had the veal kidney in mustard sauce. Also excellent. Wine selection was good & we were able to select reasonably priced & nice bottles to go with the meal. Service & atmosphere were great. Will definitely go back the next time I am in Montreal.

On y reviendrons ❤️
Let's start with the food. While French cuisine is known for its elegance & depth of flavor, the offerings at La Cuisine Française were regrettably lackluster. Take, for instance, the beef onglet dish-a staple that should be a showcase of robust flavors & careful preparation. Instead, what arrived at my table was a portion that barely seemed substantial, accompanied by a paltry serving of two beans & five pieces of carrots. This imbalance in portion size not only left me unsatisfied but also questioned the fairness in pricing for what was essentially an incomplete meal. Moreover, inconsistency marred the dining experience further. While an other person at our table received the exact same dish bursting with an abundance of green beans & carrots, which starkly contrasted with the sparse accompaniments on my plate. Such disparity in portioning & presentation not only undermines the credibility of the kitchen but also detracts from the overall dining ambiance. In terms of innovation, Chez Leveque seems to be stagnant. The menu, while featuring classic French dishes, lacks the creative flair & modern twists that could elevate it to a memorable dining experience. French cuisine has evolved significantly over the years, embracing new techniques & ingredients without losing its essence. It is disappointing to see a restaurant with so much potential settle for mediocrity instead of pushing culinary boundaries. Service, though courteous, was not enough to compensate for the culinary shortcomings. Attentiveness from the staff was appreciated, yet the fundamental issue remains: a lack of attention to detail & a failure to deliver on the promise of a truly exceptional French dining experience. Chez Leveque has a long way to go if it wishes to reclaim its potential & stand out in the competitive world of French dining. A revitalized menu that balances tradition with innovation, consistent portion sizes that justify the prices, & a renewed commitment to culinary excellence are essential steps towards achieving this goal. Until then, diners seeking an authentic & satisfying French meal may find themselves disappointed by what this restaurant currently offers
I quite enjoyed my visit! The service was wonderful! It came with house made pate (delicious)! I ordered offal, which was my first time, & I have no regrets! The steak tartare was refreshing!

Considering the price of the dishes & the reputation of the restaurant, the experience was more than disappointing. I went back after ten years hoping to find a montreal classic, but what a disappointment! the dishes were too salty, the service not great & bad, & the desserts not up to standard. You better try l'Express...
The service was good. The food was sadly beige / without any spark. Atmosphere is ok, really serious / business. I can't recommend this restaurant, considering there is an awesome competitor just in front in the same price range, but with twice the quality & taste.

Le service est impeccable. it is truly an address I can recommend in Montreal.
