Reviews depict Chez Claudette as a Montreal institution for authentic, generously portioned poutine at affordable prices, with a cozy retro diner vibe and friendly, efficient service that many visitors find welcoming. The menu is varied and features other Quebec staples like hot dogs and grilled cheese, and the poutines are often praised for hearty portions, squeaky cheese curds, and a flavorful gravy, with several readers calling it among the best poutine in the city. While most feedback is positive and highlights good value and consistency, some comments point to occasional service slowdowns, inconsistent experiences, and a few days when certain items did not hit the mark, including issues with fries or sauce. Overall, the place is described as a reliable, bustling spot where guests can enjoy generous portions, a classic ambiance, and a strong sense of authenticity that keeps people returning.
I don't really know how to describe how bad the food really was. In comparison to the other restaurants on our trip in Montreal it was by far the most bad one. The service tried to be friendly, but with this kind of food & ambiance you can't win much. I can't understand the rating from the others. If you really want to give it a try, use the smallest portion first.

I got the classic & my husband got the Marilyn. The fries were flavourful & I enjoyed the gravy. I personally prefer a more crispy fry for my poutine, but these were not soggy either per se. There could've been more cheese. But the cheese that was there had a nice pull. Overall, I enjoyed my poutine.
Overrated, I don't understand the hype, the restaurant might be around for a long time but food is definitely underwhelming, nothing to write home about.

Best poutine ever, fries not frozen, super nice server woman. Huge choice of poutines. Real cheese that makes cute sounds when chewed (chwik chwik), real brown sauce (& others). I can't add photos, I couldn't resist it.

When fries, squeaky cheese curds, gravy, ham, sausage & bacon all show up to the same party-it's called the Spécial Clau.
This isn't a cheat meal. It's a full-blown delicious rebellion. 😬
The food was very good. The poutine was loaded with toppings, & the cabbage on the hot dogs added a small spicy kick to them, which was unexpected, but quite good.
However, it was the warm, friendly staff that was the true standout that made this place an instant memorable experience & i will definitely return because of it.
